I dig your style of teaching good sir! Especially you're integration of "breakdancing" into the lesson:) I see you as a true Master in you're own right..Peace and Respect to you from L.A. California.

Best lessons on RU-vid. Well demonstrated. I like your use of Taoism in your English phrases. As in “ relax harder “. To me it makes total sense. But yes you must be able to break free from fixed definitions. As in movement you must be able to break free from habit and poor neural loops.

Easy to do, difficult to correct. A minute or two per day, and it will eventually become easy and natural.

this is exactly what my teacher told us in the last session! is this fate? although your video is much more detailed, and uses a lot of alien languages. I like it!

I'm so happy to have stumbled across your page. Really, it's nice to build a community of folks who are grounded & realistic while still able to smile & laugh while they play taiji quan. Awesome! This is the best description I've found of genuine waist movement, and saves me from having to make this video myself! :o) Love it! -J

After 3 years of Taiji in YMAA I have this in control but anyway the way Mr. Sinclair explain thing are great to nowadays pupils . Great job and sense of humour. Klingon language skills are creepy for me . I personalny belive that Klingons live amongst us .

I have not been in a "cage match" yet. But what people call mma is the way we used to train when I was younger. I have mixed it up with people of other styles. My age shouldn't be a problem. If I can get insured, I should have a fair chance. There are fighters in their forties. Some unsanctioned events even let 53-year-old untrained spectators compete on 1 hour notice. :-) watch?v=saetQnDoEvM

Sexy is right! Can't touch this! Of course don't expect my opponents to have less skill than me. I just plan to use skills which are more appropriate for the situation. As for my health, I can run 10 km at a go, and my blood pressure is 120/80. Also, lightweights don't have the experience I have carrying an extra hundred pounds around during intensive exercise. As for gracefully walking through the competition; I don't expect the fight to be pretty. Just me. :p

Dantian is a complex topic for another video. It can refer to a number of different points, or to a region, or to a central frame of reference. There are three main dantian, and others. The lower dantian can refer to a point below the navel such as qihai or guanyuan, or to the navel itself. Dantian can also refer to the yellow yard, or to a location just anterior to the lumbar spine. It can refer to the region below the ribs, or below the navel, or to huiyin. It can even include the feet.

I'm so glad you had the anatomical bit at the end, an awful lot of what you were saying (a shameful amount :() went straight over my head. Also yes, definitely do a breakdancing tutorial, you've got wicked moves xD

Wow. That was a fantastic presentation Ian and a really upmarket production. Impressive. Thank you. Forgive me but I have to ask, is the Ultimate Fighting challenge that you mentioned in a previous dvd still going ahead? Ive mentioned it to lots of my Tai Chi colleagues. Take care and thanks for all the excellent instruction. :-)

Hello Tajiman. I really like alot of your videos because they make sense. I'm not sure if you made a video already in regard to how to breath/train the Dantian but If you please could do one for all your subscribers it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ever thought about the possibility of doing tai chi while hooked up to electromyography equipment, to see how the muscle activation registers?

I am amazed at how much relaxing the belly area is critical to turning the belly, I did as you said in sitting position to watch the belly button it also showed me an imbalance between turning right I can go further by about an 1.5in. compared to left side. I definitely can see how this action can massage the internal organs. This video was revelatory to me. I will be practicing this for awhile and incorporating in my Tai Chi practice. Much Respect for this lesson . Thank you Sir!👏👍Sincerely Uwe Abraham

Thanks Ian. When you are moving, are you contracting the muscles. i.e if turning the waist left are you contracting the right abdominals etc? Also, are you inhaling during the twist during wave hands like clouds, and how do all these components connect. Thanks

I've been practicing Tai Chi at home for a few weeks. I have been seriously frustrated with what I felt as tension in my lower hips. I could tell something was off for the last few days now that I'm comfortable with the section of the form I'm doing. I found this video on your channel and it really broke down some walls for me. I instantly knew what I was doing wrong. I relaxed and opened my lower back like you showed here, and my form feels a LOT better. Well done on the description and demonstration, and thank you for sharing. You're right about the quads though!

You do not talk about the "Dantian". What is the relationship with the six layers of waist twisting.

Hee hee. I can do both, (Touching my toes and tapping.) The extra weight that I carry is just for exercise. Fighting as a featherweight was just too easy. I would like to fight in all weight classes from featherweight and up, if possible.

Didn't you say a UFC "title", like champion of a weight class? So presently you look like a heavy weight who is not that comfortable touching your toes. You do any ground work? I think you are going to need about two years of real training brother. If not, then I suggest you practice tapping ;).

Have you ever been in a cage fight before Ian, or any other type of fight? I bet they will not let you get in the ring at 45 years young.
