Forgot to mention that becoming the Dragon Warrior was never Tai Lung's dream, it was Shifu's. He said himself, all he ever wanted was to make Shifu proud. This clearly explain why he was never meant to be the DW, Tai Lung was fufilling somebody elses' destiny instead of his own.
It was actually Tai Lung’s dream. Because Shifu never said he was destined for being the dragon warrior, he said he was destined for greatness. It then said that wasn’t enough for him and wanted the dragon warrior position so badly darkness consumed him. Does Shifu hold some responsibility? Yes, but not to the extent of Tai Lung becoming a villain. Tai Lung CHOSE that path himself

Which bring us to the moment where Oogway told him about his illusion of control. Shifu putted him through all hard training and wanted him to be the DW so bad that he didn't realized that this was Oogway decision and not his. This is clearly Oogway reminded him the last time that he tried to force someone into a path that it wasn't meant his.
100% only few people understand it, imagine the heartbreak when Shifu didn't even stand for him, Tai Lung was destined for greatness but Shifu was the reason why he turned out like this but still it was unintentional.

But it was never enough for him (Tai Lung), he eagerly sought for the dragon scroll.” Shifu never told him he was destined to be the dragon warrior, Tai Lung dreamed it. Shifu put him through tough training as tough training is required by anyone to learn kung-fu. Shifu never said he was the dragon warrior He did not force him on the path to lay waste to the valley for revenge, Tai Lung chose that himself. Again Shifu deserves some responsibility and he admitted it, Tai Lung becoming a villain was Tai Lung’s own choice, Shifu did not make him a villain

Source: There was no "dragon scroll". It was a test made by Oogway for Tai Lung. It doubled as a test of self-confidence (for Po). Shifu himself never even knew the scroll was blank! Oogway saw the need for the test from the beginning. Shifu loved Tai Lung like a son, but he was also blinded by his pride. It fed Tai Lung's ego. So, Oogway made the test without telling Shifu its purpose. Oogway died without changing the test. The scroll was always a test of humility for Tai Lung, but it was just a blank scroll. To Po, it just meant there was no "key" to being someone special. Proof: Oogway did NOT make the test to teach Tai Lung self-confidence!!! The whole reason for the test was because Shifu taught Tai Lung everything but humility! Oogway came up with the test during Tai Lung's training, and saw its true purpose after he chose Po, right before he died.

It does make sense because Tai Lung was hard working mastered a thousand scrolls and was trained in the Art of Kung Fu since childhood. Tai Lung was the closest candidate to the Dragon Warrior so it wouldn’t make sense if the reason was “there’s someone better than him.” It was likely that if Tai Lung accepted this and learned his lesson he would have completed his test and became the TRUE dragon warrior.
Yea Tai Lung is one of those villains I’ve felt sorry for especially since his potential is so high and literally he got the Anakin Skywalker treatment to go with that. Po showed humility even when nobody including Shifu didn’t believe he was capable of being the dragon warrior and proved why Lung wasn’t the one. Still one of the best written villains in Dreamworks history
Po was raised humbly in a Noodle shop by a great dad. Teaching him the right values. Tai Lung was pushed by Shifus ego to dedicate his entire life training for a great destiny. Never properly parent Tai. Thats why they reacted so diffrent. The humble man who comes to power values it The one powerful from an early age whos entire life goal is to be the greatest will not.
I kinda agree. Before they were running for the title of "dragon warrior", both Po and Tai Lung were the best fighters (tai lung is, po comes later) and both of them were rejected. That was a test on how they will react to it. Tai Lung became furious while Po keeps his head up and continue to be better to be worthy of the title. Thats why Oogway chooses Po.
This is why I don’t like his idea of teaching humility to his students. It sounds like he wants to embarrass them in front of other students in the training hall.

But if you really look at his actions, he's just an angry individual who lashed out from something that he believed was taken from him. That doesn't make him a villain, or if that's the case. Then all humans are we've all lashed out at some point.

I see your point, but he still did something that is considered very evil and hasn't really done much good for atone for it. Or at least to a point where he'd be an anti-hero.
This would work, if not for two things: He never wanted the role, he just wanted to make Shifu proud, it was Shifu not sticking up for him that caused him to go rogue. Second, the way Shifu trained him was the problem, he used too much destruction!
Also Shifu was his FATHER. Rotten children are the product of bad parenting. Then grow into bad Adults. Shifus parenting was filling Tais head with dreams and a goal. Then push him day and night to master all the scrolls and techniques Shifu knew for that goal. Shifu says it himself. "I have always been proud. It was my pride that blinded me to what you became. To what i was turning ylu into." He never bothered instilling humility and other core lessons into his son. Only training and the glorious destiny at the end of the painful road.
Whats sad about is that tai lung received a life imprisonment when all he did was rage thru the valley of peace he didn’t even killed or harmed anyone if wasn’t for the zeng he would totally die there in old age and shifu didn’t even bother visiting him not even once
I never thought about it like that, imagine twenty years of rotting away in prison and your father you worked tirelessly to make happy never visited or talked to you once since. I think it’d make anyone vengeful
which is why they made the tests go in reverse. find the most humble warrior that is constantly in a state of humility and have them learn everything they need.
OK, coming from a massive Tai Lung fan, 2 things. I firstly don’t think he ever was truly meant to be the Dragon Warrior. In KFP 3, talking about the first time he saw Po, Oogway says “I saw the future of Kung Fu, and the past. I saw the panda that could unite them both.” While obviously Oogway didn’t know exactly who the Dragon Warrior was meant to be, I think he had an idea, and I think he knew he would know them when the universe presented them to him, and he saw that it wasn’t Tai Lung. They show clips of him violently destroying the training dummies before “Oogway saw darkness in his heart, and refused.” Even before he was denied, Tai Lung had so much rage and bitterness in himself, for the 20 years of blood, sweat and tears he had poured into it, and that’s why Oogway couldn’t allow him. He knew he needed someone pure and good, and he saw the potential for mass destruction and harm within Tai Lung, the monster waiting to be unleashed. Secondly, Tai Lung is not underrated. People nowadays never understand the phrases “underrated” and “overrated” and just take them to mean respectively “I like this” and “I don’t like this”. Underrated means he’s not given enough credit, attention and love, and he’s thought too lowly of. Fans rave about Tai Lung, the majority of us think he’s absolutely fantastic, and we saw how wild people went when he was in the KFP4 trailer. It was like the response to Green Goblin in No Way Home. He is definitely not underrated, he is perfectly rated in my eyes.
Tai Lung was NEVER an underrated villain. Everyone knows he's the most formidable of all of them in terms of kung fu. He's definitely better than the Five, Kai, and miles over Shen. Kai would never have won against the FIVE.
Yes Tai Lung is better than The Five and miles better than Shen and The Chameleon. But is Tai Lung better than Kai. Oogway beat Tai Lung in like a few seconds, while Kai took Oogway a few hours and even shook the earth. And The Chameleon was proven to be weak but is Tai Lung better than Kai.
Oogway knew Tai Lung wouldn’t be able to handle the truth about the dragon scroll. Whether he was chosen as the Dragon Warrior or not he would go absolutely crazy and destroy everything
As much as I like the theory, I still not agree with it. Po was meant to be the Dragon Warrior since the beginning , long before any Master knew him. In the Third Movie Oogway said he saw the future of Kung Fu after seeing Po for the first time. And the legend of the Warrior in Black and White is also a Legend from a Past long ago. Also the Fact that Po learned Kung Fu incredible fast and surpasses everyone in the Series in just Weeks or Months and all other Masters have to learn Kung Fu for Years proves it. When it comes to Tai Lung, they thought he would be the Dragon Warrior but they got proved wrong.
Shifu is the father. A fathers job is to instill morals and values. Prepairing the kid for adulthood. Shifu failed him and turned him into what he was. His actions may have been his own, but his Father is the core issue.
Tigress wasnt pushed or had her head filled with dreams since childhood. Shifu was very cold with her. Thats why she never grew that ego. She slso had friends and social interactiions. Not solitude and only training day and night for a gloriizs destiny.

If only. He didnt even get to talk to his father. Not even help defeat the Villan. If they were smart you made the resolution to defeat a Villan made up of diffrent peoples abilities by overwhelming her. Utelizing all the villans to temporarily ate. Since its an enemy of my enemy situation. But oh well.
Kung fu panda through space and time: Time is messed up because Lung is not the dragon warrior so Po has to go back in time and try to convince him to take the scroll but understand why he wasn’t given the scroll and fight himself. The version of his evil self with his newly found self. His own match. And po is there to help him but he has to fight Lung to convince him and then fight with him. 😮
Or...have Shifu his FATHER parent. Its his job raising Tai to teach him morals and values. There is the old saying. There are no bad students. Only bad teachers. Shifus tale is that until KFP2 he is only good at teaching the physical aspects of the art. His first student and son is tge embodyment of that. He pushed tai to ve the ultimate fighter, without traching him the spiritual or mental aspects you need along with it. No Shaolin Monk would freak out like that. Only an individual whos head was filled with ego and dreams. With big goals. Bjt never been prepaired to be denied in the end. Or to be contempt with who you are.
I like this assessment of tai lung and that certainly makes sense. Even though Po was ultimately chosen as the dragon warrior instead of tai lung I can certainly see that master ugway wanted to see how he could handle rejection and could he rise up to quell that dark nature in his heart without letting it consume him.
it was not just that, he was also failed by Shifu not questioning Oogway directly it was a dual test... Tai Lung then failed the test cause even Shifu did not believe in him anymore... if Shifu still believed it would be okay
Fact , master oogway said, ''otherwise'' Which meant he has what it takes but he lacks inner peace(humility) Shifu taught him well but didn't teach him everything
The lesson of the Kung Fu Panda trilogy is that.. You are the master of your destiny: No one and nothing can come in between you and your destiny except you..
According to the movie, a dragon warrior does not only mean to have kung skills, it must have a heart, willing to give away everything for the right cause...
Then in the end fourth movie, sorry if I’m spoiling for anyone, but Tai Lung, along with all the other villains bowed in respect to Po, the hero of the Valley, before allowing him to send them back to the Sprit Realm, where they belonged. Tai Lung, before departing, he addressed Po with his rightful title, until he named his new successor. Dragon Warrior.
there is Evil in Tai Lung Heart, and ?Master Oogway see that. but it not totally Tai Lung fault since he do all his best for Impress Master Shifu. but he turn out to be anger and Shifu could not stop him.
Ironically though that’s not stated officially by Oogway obviously, I don’t think these guys actually mean what they’re talking about, but it’s not a bad theory
This is very interesting because Tai Lung is very strong. he can even single-handedly defeat "The Furious Five". If Tai Lung had given up the title of "Dragon Warrior", perhaps he would have become the "Leader" of "The Furious Five". become the Strongest "Master" on "Land".
"Dragon Warrior" was only ever a title. Tai Lung thought it was a direct power up. He gave up on the dream. Same with Tigress, who worked the hardest, only to give up on it when Po was chosen. I think the lesson was perseverance. Perseverance makes the dragon warrior.
I mean if they came up with a finger hold that sends peoole inside the spirit world, i'm sure they can make up a chi reverse move to bring him back if they want to.
I think Tai Lung reflected in the spirit realm after he saw the scroll because when he was brought back by the Camelion he acknowledged Po as the dragon warrior. Something definitely changed about him. He became a good guy.
A lot of people, including with chosen one stories, think the chosen one is a title given. It's not. Oogway wasn't giving The Dragon Warrior as a prize. It's more of a future vision and seeing who that is from within. Po could have gone to Oogway as a nobody, or fully trained, and he'd have said he was the Dragon Warrior either way.
the thing is that since the secret of the scroll is belief in oneself the moment shifu told him it was time to meet oogway he fully belived he was the dragon warrior and kept that belief while imprisoned up untill he got the scroll. there was no hidden secret, no font of power, nothing. he ruined his life for nothing.
Honestly fair, enough, bro. Whatever we like to admit It or not He could have been mad about it sure But he took the his anger out on innocent people And destroyed everything It's on-site. We also need to remember. He wasn't Taught how to have humility or kindness. He was taught to be the best weapon there was. It's not His fault though. He was already adopted at a Kung Fu master By day one. I don't think he ever murdered anybody. Can somebody correct me if I'm wrong by that though?
I would’ve loved the plot for the fourth movie instead making Po and Tai Lung both being forced to work together, and eventually helping Tai Lung reach his true destiny in redeeming him and letting Po pass down the title of Dragon Warrior down to him
This movie define our society very well.... How an unworthy became worthy after having a lots of opportunity and how a greatest just abandoned for no reason...... In reality hopes, friends that doesn't make u strong years of practice, sacrifices , hard work makes u perfect....... Just imagine in ur office some unworthy fellow get the opportunity because someone believe in him but not you though u r the most eligible..... That is the reason why Loki became evil... This society this inequality create greatest villain or I say they are the hero's fighting for their rights.....
Tai Lung is one of the main reasons why I love Kung Fu, it's honestly not even because of Pao 😅! It's really because of all the animal villains that the movies brought and even the shows. I wanted to watch the 4th Kung Fu Panda movie because I saw that Tai Lung was coming back, but I continued watching trailers and reading stuff about it. Because of what I found, I honestly might not watch the movie at all.
If he would've just been humble, we wouldn't be stuck with a goofy ahh panda who's mentally handicapped and is always falling on his face. Tai Lung would've been the Goku of their world.
Tai lung never wanted to be a dragon warrior. He wanted shifu to be proud of him but when he saw shifu's face getting disappointed that snapped him into rage.
If other details weren’t left out, this theory would’ve been interesting to the point where it could’ve been true. But this theory realistically makes no sense. Missing detail 1). Shifu filled his head up with the promise to become the Dragon Warrior. He was so proud of how he was getting better and better, he gave Tai Lung that ego boost like it was his birthright to become the Dragon Warrior…similar to how a low budget infomercial tells you that in 5 steps, you can make $150,000 in a month. Missing detail 2). When Oogwai says that he’s not the Dragon Warrior, Shifu didn’t even try to challenge/question his decision like he did years later when he chosen Po. Tai Lung looked at Shifu like “so you’re not going to say anything? I busted my tail off to become the perfect fighter, the perfect warrior, and instead of making a case for me, you just accepted his decision?! Count your days Shifu, count your MFN days…I’ll show you who’s not worthy!!”
Do y'all ignore the third movie or smnthn? 💀 Oogway explained why he choosed Po. Which cancels the possibility of anybody but Po being the dragon warrior.
" Everything I did I did to make you PROUD, TELL ME HOW PROUD YOU ARE SHIFU... TELL MEEEE!!!". Also when shifu apologizes you can see in tai lungs face that he wanted to accept but he was too far gone at that point.
Tai lung wasn't meant to be the dragon warrior, only shifu thought he would be the dragon warrior, but that's what made tai lung to get enraged and attack the valley, the person he looked upto and wanted to make proud didn't argue against oogway, he just accepted that tai lung wasn't the dragon warrior and didn't even try to comfort him, he just turned his back and walked away. Tai lung didn't deserve what he got, he worked hard day after day to achieve a goal he never truly wanted, he was pressured into something he wasn't destined to achieve, and when he was denied, the one person who wanted it left him, then after having enough he broke and tried getting the scroll, which caused him to be locked away for many years, i don't think anyone even visited him, shifu actively tried to keep him there.
That was actually a theory I’ve been having in my head as I rewatched the movie recently. What if that was supposed to be a test all along and he had to prove he could earn the title of dragon warrior, and yet despite all he had been seeing this as a rejection and so all that followed in the movie then happened.
A Kung Fu Panda 4 re-write (my opinion): Tai Lung becomes the dragon warrior, the rightful heir as he was meant to be. It comes full circle for him, Po, and Shifu. They all work together (along with the furious five) to stop the chameleon. A Darth Vader redemption arc for Tai Lung would have elevated the story so much more than what we got.
Meh nah I would’ve liked it if they did more to flush out why Tai Lung is all of sudden chill with Po You would assume he’s been self reflecting while in the spirit realm, but he could’ve also had been as vengeful as Kai was Also this doesn’t make sense cuz he’s meant to stay in the spirit realm… being dead and all
To me, Tai Lung Was never mad about being denied the scroll, he was mad that Shifu never stuck by his side despite filling his head with hopeless dreams.
I think oogway sensed a strong presence of kai in tailung.A baby from panda village was able to master chi now tailung thirst for power would have made him a far worse threat than kai since his thirst for power.
