Hi Rich, I felt that Toyota put the structure there for a reason so I wanted to keep it. I am very happy with the end result. It looks as if the hatches are OEM type doors, especially since they match interior vinyl panels perfectly. Take care and thanks for watching.

Well done, Sir. Your patience and persistence paid off. Great mod. Wish I had the nerve to do it on mine!

Thanks Virginia! I could have been more efficient. Not being prepared, not having fully charged batteries and doing job away from home took lots of extra time. Take a deep breath and jump right in. The project is actually not that bad and actually gives a nice amount of extra storage. I actually have an extra set of hatches that were purchased, but did not like something about them. Think I am going to give them away in a future video...as soon as I figure out how to do a giveaway that is fair. Anyway, keep an eye out. Might be just what you need to take that next step. Be well....

I really like your video format and quality of work! Keep it up. That is the best variation of this mod that I’ve seen.

Hi Five, thanks for the comment. The tailgate mod using marine hatches has worked well. Now that I have had them a while, I am really glad I kept the center structure. I periodically to out in the truck and like to sit on the tailgate. Just feels better know I did not rip out all the structure Toyota built into the truck. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video and hope you will watch for future vids. Be well.

Nice work on the installation! And great idea using marine hatch covers. I like your setup a lot more than the ones that cover the entire tailgate. Reminds me more of the factory tailgate storage layout I have on my LX570.

Nice video and great idea using hatch covers. A much better solution. I'm going to follow your lead I have an LX450 with many of the same problems: door locks, glass runners, power seats, etc. Looking forward to your hidden winch install solution. Just subbed. Good luck.

Hi K, thanks for watching. The hatches have been working out well. I like to let the tailgate down and sit on it from time to time. Also, crawling into the back of the truck I will sometimes place a knee on the tailgate to lift myself inside. I like that the center structure is still in place because that is where I place my knee. I feel more confidence with the center structure in place. I don't feel that I am not going to crack something whereas I don't think I would have that confidence if the storage door ran across the entire length of the tailgate. Anyway, good luck with the install if you should decide to go this route. Hopefully you can use my process to give you a better install with less time spent. That is, more efficient. Be well.

Hi Outdoor! Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. Much appreciated. I have been very pleased with this solution. The solution costs a lot less than some of the other offerings on the market that take up the entire tailgate AND requires removing the center structure to the tailgate. Anyway, more videos to come. I hope you will check them out. Take care and be well.

Thanks for sharing the whole process of trial, error and success. I learned a lot, especially on the corner details.

Hi Douglas, thanks for watching. The videos I see on RU-vid are very helpful, but everything appears to go together perfectly. No mistakes. No idea of whether the process took 20 minutes or two days. Those time details are helpful for a DIYer to determine how much time to set aside or if they want to even tackle the project. I hope my videos showing time and mistakes/errors will shine some light on the process and help fellow DIYers have a better idea of time and cost to complete the project. I hope you will like, follow & subscribe to catch upcoming videos. Take care and be well.

Hi Mona, thanks for the comment. Now, if I can just get some of the remaining videos (e.g., painting process, engine knock & solution, ARB Diff Breathers, etc) edited, I would be doing great. Hard to find the time. Anyway, I hope you will subscribe and provide your feedback on upcoming videos. This helps me make the videos more meaningful and hopefully, better than the prior video. Take care and be well.
