Taipei - LONGEST CABLE CAR RIDE! Maokong Gondola Tour in Taipei - 貓空纜車

How to take the Taipei Cable Car, called the Maokong Gondola (in Chinese 貓空纜車) up to the Tea Plantations located on the mountains just outside Taipei, Taiwan. We also show you how to buy tickets for the Taipei Cable Car (Maokong Gondola), and show you the prices of the tickets and how you pay for them. This is just one of our many Taipei Travel Guide videos.
This Taipei travel video begins where we have just arrived at the Maokong Gondala (Taipei Cableway) on a Taipei MRT Train. We make our way to the Maokong Gondola (貓空纜車) building where we show you the price of the tickets to ride the Cable Car and also tell you about the types of Cable Car available. There are two choices of cable cars to ride at the Maokong Gondolas, a standard cable car and a glass bottomed cable car (called Crystal Cabins). We chose to ride a standard cable car as we wanted to have the cable car to ourselves as we were filming this video. The queue for the Glass Floor Cable Car was too long and even if we waited in the queue we would have to share the cable car with other travelers which would not be practical as we were filming this Taipei Travel Guide video.
Once we get onboard our Gondola (cable car) we show you parts of the journey as we make our way from the Maokong Gondola (貓空纜車) to the Tea Plantations located at the top of the mountain. On the way up we pass over jungle, the Taipei Zoo, some Chinese Temples until we eventually reach our destination, the peak at Maokong. This Taiwan Cable Car system is 4.3 kilometers long and there are 4 stops along the way, Taipei Zoo (動物園), Taipei Zoo South (動物園南), Zhinan Temple (指南宮), Maokong (Saxuan Temple) (貓空). Detailed information about Ticket Prices for the cable-way, and yes you can use the Taipei Easycard as this Cable Car Network is part of the Taipei MRT System, can be viewed on the Maokong Gondola website. This is part 1 of our trip to the Tea Plantations of Maokong where we show you the ride on this fantastic cableway. In part 2 we show you the Tea Houses and take you for a walk on the mountain with us.
Wiki writes about the Taipei MRT (Taipei Metro), "Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), branded as Taipei Metro, is a metro system serving Taipei and New Taipei, Taiwan, operated by government owned Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, which also operates Maokong Gondola.. Taipei Metro was the first metro system in Taiwan. The initial network was approved for construction in 1986 and work started two years later. The first line opened in 1996 and by 2000, 62 stations were in service on three main lines. Over the next nine years the number of passengers had increased by 70%. Since 2008, the network has expanded to 117 stations and the passenger count has grown by another 66%.. The system has often been praised for its safety, reliability and quality. It has become effective in relieving traffic congestion in Taipei, with over two million trips made daily. The system has also proven effective as a catalyst for urban renewal..."

Great video. I didn’t get to that part of Taipei. I did visit a hot springs resort hotel in north Taipei which was pretty much in the mountains. Amazing experience.

Wonderful video, as usual. Love the commentary from both of you. A quick tip for those going out to the Gondola: the MRT lines are colour-coded and also have signs in English, so it’s definitely the best way to get there. I recommend riding in the front of that MRT as it is driver-less and has a window you can look forward from. You are right: the Crystal Gondola queue is always longer (allow 5-10 minutes queue time for a normal gondola, and 15+ for the crystal one with the glass floor). The floors are generally quite scratched, so I think the normal gondola is just as good. When up at the tea houses, the further you are prepared to walk, the better the tea house and the better the view. Allow 15+ minutes walk time to and from the good tea houses. If you are not a fan of tea, try the shaved ice (great on a hot day), which has wonderful fruit flavours added. Keep up the wonderful videos. Best wishes from Australia.

I was there for 1 day. It was raining heavily at night around 9:45pm and I wanted to take it and their atms simply didnt work with my cards only there so I couldn't ride the cable car for gods sake. U should try hong Kong's cable car. It goes L shaped to the mountain . It takes 40 minutes to reach . One of the highest in the world after vietnam I guess. In each country I visit. I need to do a cable car ride:)

To answer your question, Maxi is Danish / South African and Maro is Finnish. We live in Denmark and speak English together. Might I suggest going to Songshan Airport? Songshan Airport is a small airport in the heart of Taipei. There's a small road behind the Runway and a small viewing platform where you can watch planes take off and land right above your head. You can even feel the jet blast!

We wanted to fly to Songshan Airport but unfortunately there were no China Airlines flights to that airport from Amsterdam (at least not what we saw). Next time we are in Taipei, we will definitely have to go there for some spotting, thanks for the tip! Have a good weekend :-D

@@TravellerYT I also haven't had the chance yet to fly to Songshan Airport and see the amazing approach. I don't think China Airlines operates flights from Amsterdam to Songshan but I may be wrong. The viewing platform is behind the runway, quite far from the Terminal so if you do visit just keep in mind that you may need to walk a bit. There are also buses that go quite near which I took and after I walked to Zongshan Junior High School Station to take the Wenhu line.

Hey Maxi and Maro! Taiwan is such a beautiful country, it has many must try stuffs in this place especially the food, really want to visit this place one day. And I really love it when you're visiting Asia every now and then, and if you visit the Philippines one day, don't just visit Manila, I advice you to also visit other parts of the Philippines like Cebu, Davao, Boracay, and, Palawan.

G'day! Great cable car ride. There is on in Vietnam up to Bana Hill, just outside Da nang, I think it's the longest single span in the world. Absolutely awesome views. Worth doing if you ever gat to Central Vietnam
