Following the Attack on Pearl Harbor, his master predicted that Japan would lose the war. When Deshimaru departed from his Master, Kodo said "Our homeland will be destroyed, our people annihilated . . . and this may be the last time we see one another. Nevertheless, love all mankind regardless of race or creed."

@@ketzerm8672 HEART SUTRA (Prajñaparamita) Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. Form is not other than emptiness, emptiness is not other than form. The same is true with feelings, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness. All dharmas are marked with emptiness. They are neither produced nor destroyed, neither defiled nor immaculate, neither increasing nor decreasing. Therefore in emptiness there is neither form, nor feelings, nor perceptions, nor mental formations, nor consciousness. No eye, or ear, or nose, or tongue, or body, or mind. No form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no object of mind. No realms of elements (from eyes to mind consciousness), no interdependent origins and no extinction of them (from ignorance to death and decay). No ill-being, no cause of ill-being, no end of ill-being, and no path. No understanding and no attainment. Because there is no attainment, the Bodhisattvas, grounded in Perfect Understanding, find no obstacles for their minds. Having no obstacles, they overcome fear, liberating themselves forever from illusion, realizing perfect nirvana. All Buddhas in the past, present, and future, thanks to this Perfect Understanding, arrive at full, right, and universal enlightenment. Therefore one should know that Perfect Understanding is the highest mantra, the unequaled mantra, the destroyer of ill-being, the incorruptible truth. A mantra of Prajñaparamita should therefore be proclaimed: Gate gate paragate parasamgate buddhi sattva Gate gate paragate parasamgate buddhi sattva Gate gate paragate parasamgate buddhi sattva
It is a Japanese derivation of the sanskrit *Prajnaparamita* - better known to most as the Heart Sutra. It is a sutra which has profound meaning on many levels. It is generally known from the lines ". . form is emptiness, emptiness form." I highly suggest finding a translation that speaks to you, personally. There are many.
I came to this recording because I've started sitting with the Zen Dojo in Bristol, England, and wanted to hear a recording of the chant we often practice at the end of zazen. Thank you for uploading this wonderful, emotive recording.

I was once in a soto zen temple led by a disciple of Deshimaru and one day there was a ceremony where we sang this Sutra. Although I usually don't care much about the folklore around Buddhism (I focus mostly on the meditation), this was very powerful, my body was swirling on itself without my command lol
This powerful and purifying for the Heart Soul Sutra gives me a lot of compassion and powerful energies, absolute incredible song very mystical and authentic. Thanks is incredible

@gabrielgal18 I am not enlightened and there is no students around. Thanks to God. Selfish? Why not. Keep your stomac full and your bones warm. Eat good healthy food and enjoy yourself if you know how. Practice? Keep only DON'T KNOW MIND and recognise that three times are empty illusion.
@gabrielgal18 After true enlightenment one enjoys Life to the full. If you need to practise after enlightenment you will practice untill the year of a donkey.
Jiddu Krishnamurti 2nd July 1944: We must not think and feel horizontally but vertically. That is, instead of following the course of lazy, selfish, ignorant thought-feeling of gradualism, of slow enlightenment through the process of time, of following this stream of continual conflict and misery, of constant mass murder and a period of rest from it - called peace - and an eventual paradise on earth; instead of thinking-feeling along these horizontal lines, can we not think - feel vertically? Is it not possible to pull ourselves out of the horizontal continuance of confusion and strife and to think-feel away from it, anew, without the sense of time, vertically?
WB Yeats, “Gratitude to the Unknown Insructors:” What they undertook to do They have brought to pass; All things hang like a drop of dew Upon a blade of grass.
Om Gate Gate Para Gate ParaSam Gate Bodhi Swaha! May all beings be happy! The heart sutra says,"they see through delusions and finally nirvana. All Buddhas past, present and future also take refuge in prajnaparamita and realize unexcelled, perfect enlightenment."Thank you for chanting this profound sutra.

I heard about Taisen Deshimaru for the first time yesterday from a friend. Today, I had to lead the Maka Hannya Haramita Shingyo chant and so I youtubed it and lo and behold the man himself!
That’s like comparing a lion to a housecat. But there are basic similarities, ha, ha! We all look for it in different ways! Your way might be more fun! I hope you find something that lasts!
This is not a doctrine taught to me, but I have come to feel that a sutra, especially this sutra, chanted by a gathering of Buddhists, rings through out in space and time, in a way that physics, at least today's physics, can neither demonstrate nor prove.
Unfortunately, not only JESUS got killed...but BUDDHA as well .Buddha was foodpoisined with p o r k. JESUS came back into his body after his clinical death and DESHIMARU ss well.. On the fifth of may,we celebrate both the birth a n d death of BUDDHA.

To me it is very sad and wonderful to hear the Omze coughing and catching his breath and then persevering. Also a small group within the group is chanting a fifth above the main group.
This machine kills hatred, and unkindness, and indifference to the welfare of others, and smugness, and pride, and vanity, and greed, and in their place it leaves love, compassion, kindness, care for the suffering and welfare of others, and it replaces vanity and pride with love and compassion, and gratitude for the ability to being able to serve those who are suffering. When the Holy Father, Pope Francis, washes the feet of Arab boys, he is living the same message. My gratitude to the great teachers of kindness and empathy grows with every passing year. Attempting to restrict these teaching to some tradition, no matter how ancient and honorable, is like trying to make a jail for Jesus and his true followers.
