Its a bargain when you consider Australia gave France 4.5 billion AUD 3 billion USD for doing nothing , just to cancel a sub contract that France did not even start.... and there sub cost was for a diesel sub was higher then a nuke sub after all the silly mods AUS likes to add on. Just imagine what USD 1.8 billion can do to help a small population of Taiwan still living in poverty. The cost is way too high for even a nuclear powered submarine like the ones Australia is buying. The amount of kickbacks and corruption involved is too obvious to many. Maybe it's a last chance for the DPP leaders to loot as much as possible before fleeing when they next lose the election and Taiwan reverts back to unite with the PRC (China).

Taiwan is province of China. the mainland is where the CPC (the winner of the civil war) & in Taiwan the KMT (the loser). both of them see Taiwan as province. as for the successor of KMT, since returning back to mainland is near impossible, they got this recent idea of annexing Taiwan as a country & no longer a part of China
