Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) claims to be the most democratic country in Asia. After William Lai was elected president, he began using the anti-corruption pretext to purge political opponents, deploying the entire state apparatus to target Ko Wen-je, the opposition party leader, who has no evidence of corruption against him. The DPP also employed various TV media to launch a massive campaign attacking and vilifying Ko Wen-je, making it seem as if he had already been convicted by the courts. This approach, similar to that of the Communist Party, mirrors the political persecution the DPP once faced from the Kuomintang. It is truly sad and scary to see such thins reemerge in Taiwan in 2024, 30 years after democratization. I am very afraid of being targeted by a ruling party that feels like it's becoming dictatorial.

It’s definitely a political persecution. Dr.Ke was a very hard-working city mayor. He had his city council meeting at 7:30 am for 8 years. I am so upset how could DPP government misuse the judicial to persecuted a person who did commit any sins!

This is political persecution. We need international help. Please help us.

On September 2nd, a court granted Ko Wen-je a release without bail in connection with the corruption allegations. However, this decision was overturned on September 5th after the prosecutor appealed. The appeal, which failed to provide any new evidence, was heard by a different judge who had previously been subject to an impeachment process. The new ruling mandated Ko Wen-je's detention without bail.
