In Taoyuan, Taiwan you can find Pacific Cycles. It’s a cycle factory that makes the base components for a lot of the speciality recumbent, electric and standard bikes, trikes, unicycles and quads in the world today! They actually make the frame components for my trike, the HP Velotechik Scorpion 20fs! Join me as I tour their museum and factory floor and get a sneak peek at the birthplace for what could be the cycle you are riding now!
Pacific coast founded itself on the niche of being the company that can make the technically difficult. They are focused, streamlined, and do what they do very well. People come to them from all over the world when they have been turned away from other more traditional factories that were intimidated by designed thought to be too aggressive.

I ride a HPV Streetmachine, did not see anything specific for my bike in the video, but I'd assume the frame comes from there as well. :)

As Matt was touring the factory, he said; "looks like he's done that before". I couldn't help but think, no matter how automated a factory is, it's products are only as good as the people who work there. Great video.

Wow. That was so cool. Very interesting to see how their production line works from start to finish. Much more hands on than I would have guessed. I’ve worked in factories when I was younger so I also find it interesting on how technology has changed the way things are done, so streamlined the processes I guess. It’s funny to think my new ICE Trike will be so well traveled before I get it. Thanx for a great video.

I have a Carry Me bike which is really cool. Super easy to ride. There was a guy in Thailand ride it 100KM in a roll. Very sturdy.

I love factories as well.From the oldest hand operated machines to the newest CNC machine centres can be fascinating. Interesting to see that in industry you will find hand jigs and CNC machines producing different aspects of a single product. Even on travel Vlogs I love the scenery in industrial areas.

Many times, we treat bicycles or machines that come from Asia with contempt. But we lack humility to understand the great infrastructure that they have. We only have the money. sometimes I like to invent my own bike prototypes. I can understand the difficulty in each component. Now with this video. I will have more respect for a bicycle from Asia. Not just get carried away by derogatory comments from materialistic and consuming people.

This video was awesome I enjoyed riding my HPVelotecnik Gekko during the time I had it. But, two years ago now I got broadsided by a minivan, so the Gekko is no longer. But, that recumbent tadpole trike saved me from getting seriously injured. I only received a severe hematoma bruise around my right calf. But, because of how I was hit the front wheels where folded over themselves and the rear frame was bent to the right. But, I still have to give kudos to anyone that work on or ride recumbents. Because of the permagrin that you get once you start riding recumbent. I have a new trike with 1,500 miles on it in one years time.

Yea. The trike is a safe frame. If you do get hit there is much more metal around you to keep you safe

Matt thanks for this video. Very enlightening. What interest me most were the type of workers working in the factory. They looked quite a diverse lot. Please if u can, do more of these vids on bike factories in Taiwan. Maybe try to do one on giant bike factory, that would be interesting.

What an interesting factory I was totally surprised about the sheer broadness of product, which they make, looks to me like they really have all the major brands in their portfolio. I'm also quite surprised how deep their production is, from an operational standpoint, they had most of the steps insourced. Well, come to think of it, it probably makes ton of sense, because some of the single production steps are quite small so it might not be feasible to send the frames away, for example to get them powdercoated.

The unicycle bike at 3:25 was actually built by a guy here in the US. I saw a video many years ago and it was called RYNO motors( There's a nice story behind how he invented that). This company probably bought the rights.

I'm currently riding a Kota bicycle. I've had a few issues with the gearing and brakes due to it being second hand, but I couldn't beat the price with anything else of similar quality on the market. I've been interested in recumbent trikes for a while for longer touring. They seem so comfy and sturdy at the same time. How would one go about finding a decent quality recumbent trike without having to break the bank? Like, what should one look for to recognize a good value second hand or on-sale recumbent trike?

My catrike is not manufactured there, but in Florida. A quite rare trike in Europe. Hope you can make a tour in the catrike factory too, when you come to the US. Then we can hear your comparison between the two factories.

holy hell that women behind you where you start talking for the first time looks like she is 11 months pregnant. The one wheel bike reminded me of The Uno, 17 year old Canadian kid invented a self leveling (like the segway) "mono" wheel, battery powered bike.
