Take 5 - Joe Morello's Drum Solo 

I studied with Maestro Morello . He was a tough bird on the first lesson... trying to weed out the drummers who weren’t really serious about the art. When you got to know him he was the most giving teacher and couldn’t be more supportive. He was a genius on drums and there was no limit to the depth of his ability and creativity.

What made joe so unique, was his ability to express so much into each and every single note, very articulate and thoughtful, in my opinion, the best drummer that ever lived

I've never seen anyone playin' drums so gently but makin' great sounds none the less. Not even another jazz drummer. He must've been his own class.

Now this is drumming, using the drums as a musical instrument, or instruments, totally relaxed, no needless arm flailing, a true musician.

Joe and Steve Gadd are arguably the best drummers that I have ever heard to date. Both pioneers.

Every time I hear this song I am reminded of the British TV series "Secret Life of Machines" which used a reggae version of it for their closing theme.

You can keep your Krupas and Richs, this fellow is Mr Supercool on the drums, and is recognised as such. A supremely talented musician. He (together with Shelly Manne) are the best in my opinion. I would have loved to hear him on the violin. He played solo with Boston Symphony at age 9. What a character. Where are they all these days ?

Basic 4 piece kit. The great drummers from his era, like Buddy Rich, and Gene Krupa, didn't need a lot of drums and cymbals, to produce magic. Just sheer talent. Joe went from Ludwig to DWs , later in life.

Even better than the studio. Good musicians don't feel compelled to wow you with their loudness. Subtlety and variety in tone colors and articulation are much more musical! Alas we live in the age of machine. People too have become machines...

he certainly hada great swing and amazing flexibility to his unique style. havent seen anone including the grt B.rich or lang, or portenoy, or the rest come up tom scratch with morellos originality and style. of course lang has a tremendous techicality and all. as many others or they hit the drums to hard. this moreelo guy barely touches his skins and sounds much better. his drums sound great too. a very under rated percusionist indeed. and i have seen scores of grt drummers. Im convinced he was better than b.rich. in the context of originality. b.rich was a very nervous all over the place and doing mainly roles on the drums however excelent. No .....J.Morrelo is the man

Stewart Copeland is my fav drummer. But i love this dude. I dont think buddy rich is that musical though.

IMHO Buddy Rich made it look difficult, and I'm sure it was. Morello makes it look easy, and we all know it is not. Thanks to RU-vid, and thanks *so much* for posting this. From just *this snippet*, i just got my RU-vid "fix" for the evening. (Now back to my Bombay Sapphire and Tonic and maybe a little more YT :-)
