"Take A Bath" is a musical comedy about Naaman, proud general of Aram. Naaman has a rash that will not heal (Itches in My Britches). Erelah, the servant of Naaman's wife Bina, suggests that Naaman should go to Israel, her home country. Erelah says there is a prophet there named Elisha who can heal him (I Know A Guy). Naaman goes to his king, Hadadezer, who agrees to send a letter to Joram, king of Israel, telling Joram to heal Naaman's rash. Joram receives this letter and is filled with panic. Elisha arrives and comforts Joram, saying, "I got this." (Hadadezer Sent a Letter)
Back in Aram, Hadadezer asks Naaman about the presents he must bring to his healer. Naaman's presents are not good enough and Hadadezer tells Naaman that he needs to have fancy, expensive presents, saying, "No matter how much this guy has in his pockets, I promise you he still wants more." (More). Naaman and his army, along with Bina and Erelah, march to Israel. On the way, Naaman and his advisors imagine what an amazing spectacle they have in store when Naaman is healed (Rainbows and Thunder). During a rest on their journey, Bina asks Erelah why she would want to help Naaman. Erelah explains why it is right to help others just because they need help, whether they deserve it or not. (We Live Together)
When Naaman arrives at Elisha's house, Elisha does not come out to meet Naaman, but instead sends Gehazi, an assistant. Gehazi tells Naaman to bathe seven times in the Jordan River (Seven Times). Naaman is dubious, but goes to the river. When they arrive, Naaman is upset that the river appears to have nothing special about it. He resolves to go back to Elisha's house and have revenge upon Elisha, until Bina and Erelah encourage him to swallow his pride and do as Gehazi said. Naaman agrees and bathes in the river (Seven Times Reprise). He is healed.
Naaman returns to Elisha's house to thank him and offer the fancy, expensive presents as a gift. Elisha refuses the gifts, encouraging him to find someone who really needs it. (Not a For Profit Prophet). Naaman is now a changed person who will help others.
