She said it will take several sessions but my dog did it in seconds. I bowed in front of her and she bowed back to me, I rewarded her with a treat right away and she kept doing it over and over. I guess some dogs are just born to do tricks. She also did the roll over which I thought was impossible and not only did she do it within minutes, she did multiple rollovers. I love my baby girl to bits!!!

That's good that your dog was able to catch on quickly, but it is just that! I am glad that you were able to use this direction to guide your dog to do what you wanted it to do but realize not all dogs are the same and learn the same just like humans! She may have been saying this to help people from getting discouraged if they didn't learn it right away. Yes, my dog learned it pretty quickly as well but not all dogs are created equal! Don't think you're a professional dog trainer just because you got your dog to do one thing! And I mean this with all sincerity because I've just had a friend that I was training his dog and I wasn't there for 2 weeks because I wasn't feeling well because I was coming off of my medicine and and that time he was able to get his dog to give him. Paul and he thought he was the best thing in the world and told me he didn't need me and left and now he has a dog. That's a nightmare! So always humble yourself like you seem to have already done!

I was trying to teach my dog to roll over but he couldn't do it. I didn't want to push him to do it cause i know that training is mostly about connecting and communicating with your dog. So i decided to try and teach him something else. I saw this video and when i started teaching him to bow he got it immediately. My point is try to make training a happy thing for your dog and if he/she doesn't get to do everything it's okay. There's still many other tricks that you can try
@DoggyU

I love this Octi! This is exactly right! Not every trick is for every dog, or something you need to build different tricks to help the ultimate trick connect more with your dog. Have you checked out my BANG video? It may help towards your ultimate rollover progression and is a fun one to teach! BANG video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ghL7Z-0kXgU.html Also, always make sure you're practicing rollover on a very soft surface. If you're having trouble teaching roll over, try doing what I did with my dogs. Make sure your dog is comfortable being in a down position. Reward them for being there, being stable, and having you stroke them all over. Make sure your dog is comfortable being on their side with you near. You can capture the behaviour when your dog is napping. Then, slow down, reward tiny approximations - reward just a tiny weight shift at first. If your dog is too jumpy, if they're whining and being frustrated, try feeding them their dinner before you train. Sometimes motivation for food is a hindrance, not a help! Hope this helps.

I am going to follow you. Was looking for a tricks to teach my dog while stuck inside and chose you to watch out of all the videos that cropped up. Am I glad I did. You are easy to follow, give great explanations as to why to do what or what not to do while training, and also give us real talk such as "this isn't going to happen in one day" - that is important to hear because novice dog owners might not know that and get frustrated. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos, going to pace myself because if I watch too many tricks I won't know which one to do first!! lol..

Yayyy! I'm so glad this has worked well for you! If you're in the "maintaining position" phase, be sure to feed a ton, really fast in position, one after the other and then throw forward. So it should be bow, feed, feed, feed, throw. Then slowly increase the time between feeding. Good luck and be sure to tag us on Instagram @doggy.u if you're on social media so I can see your progress! :)

He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book ru-vid.comUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". Took less than 5 min and I had her bowing on command. Best part is I reward with play immediately after training sessions. I incorporated a bow before throwing her toy for her and it reinforced the new skill. I’ll be working on a consistent cue and getting her to do it at my side as we continue to practice, but I did it in a short session and kept it fun. I’ve never taught her this trick before, but I do narrate things when she’s doing them for her buttons, so that probably helped move THIS activity along more quickly. Thank you for a great tutorial.

I met my new puppy a week ago and shes awesome! Soon I will start training her, when she arrives. I already have decided on the basic tricks and other ones that are showy and smart because I know what kind of dog she is. Shes bouncy and playful, but has a calmer side and I know she’ll be an excellent student. Shes a Whippet-Kelpie cross, both very different but smart breeds, so I have faith in her! I’ve learnt from many tutorials that every dog has potential and every dog will do something amazing. I’ve also learnt that your channel is amazing, by experience and the comments on this very video. I cannot express how amazed I am with your dog! I may have to start my own channel, with clips of me teaching my new Tess! Honestly, shes amazing. I just love her so much, and this would be a great way to show off her skills and to bond with her even more! Thank you so much for this video!

@DoggyU
@DoggyU Год назад
Teaching stand first would likely make it a bit easier, but you could always just lure him into a stand then proceed with the trick. If you are working on the stand, and sitting is already very automatic for the dog, I recommend teaching front and rear foot targets. This can be helpful in teaching the concept to the dog: Front target: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cvg5xe1zyEo.html Rear target: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_DsAH1JQJ_8.html

This is great! I’m so glad I found your channel. How would you cue this same bowing trick for a yoga pose? Same motion from your dog just a different cue from you. I’m basically looking at puppy pose posture. Then I guess they would hold it longer. Thanks!
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 2 года назад
Hey Jenny! So probably the easiest way to do this is put it on a straight verbal cue, then transfer the cue to the body cue you are looking to use. You'll need a strong behavior and cue relationship before you get started. You can learn about transferring a cue/adding a cue in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZyCT17pJJDA.html

Honestly speaking, my dog is small in size & she very well understands how to do tricks like jump over things, rollover, laydown, paw, sit, but she was having trouble doing this one. i think i might start doing this trick at a stage where she learned other tricks, like this one. The way you train your dog is very good & kind, but my dog doesn't pay attention to my form or anything at all, except for the treat, that's where her downfall is. if you have a method on getting more of the dog's attention i would really appreciate it. thank you :]

Hi Em- a couple ideas. One, you may be asking too much. We're looking for a tiny weight shift so if they are stepping back, you've missed the weight shift and should click earlier. Another thing that can be helpful is to put them on a pedestal so stepping back isn't an option. Alternatively, you can have them practice with their back end close to a wall so there's no place to step. Hope that helps!

Hi Holly! Thanks for the kind words! So if the dog is walking backwards, a couple things can help. First, reward before you think you need to. Most people ask too much of the dog too soon. Reward for even the slightest weight shift back. The other thing is to use a pedestal or ottoman to start the trick on. This makes it so the dog can't move backwards. Hope that helps!

How would you recommend starting to introduce the cue where you do just the bowing motion with your own body without the outstretched hand part? Currently my dog only understands to do her bow when I push my hand diagonally down to her face. Love the vid btw!! ❤
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 9 месяцев назад
Hi Alyssa! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! So what you're looking to do is essentially a cue transfer. You may need to start with getting more repetitions of the behavior in with the current cue until it's really solid, then you'll want to just bend over, wait a moment, and then present your hand push, mark and reward. You repeat this until as soon as you start bending, your dog anticipates the hand push and does the bow on the bend. You can learn more about adding cues here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZyCT17pJJDA.html Hope that helps!

Anyways constantly giving the dog treats will they eventually do it without the treat and will they understand what they’re doing when you give them a command like bow I didn’t hear you say too many times bow, so I am wondering will the dog know what it’s doing will it know what it’s being asked to do And will it know what it’s being asked to do if it doesn’t get a treat? Thank you for your video and thank you in advance for your reply😊

Hi Aaron - so to transition off a lure you should do two reps with the lure, one rep where you get your "ghost cookie" ie. go into your treat bag, pretend to get the treat but don't, then do the same lure gesture, when the dog does it, click treat. Repeat alternating between cookie and no cookie in hand until the reward comes after the click. Hope that helps!

Your treat is likely being held too high above her head. If she's sitting, try taking the treat, putting it on her nose and then drawing it towards her chin/throat. This will cause her to stand, click and reward. It is helpful to first teach a stand cue if your dog doesn't already know a stand. hope that helps!

@namzroy5130
@namzroy5130 3 года назад
Hey, just came across your comment and thought this can help: if your dog gets frustrated or not interested in what you're asking him/her to do then he is not motivated enough in that position. So when he/she is in the position you want him/her to be in (in this case stand) reward with a high-value treat in continuous succession (something that the dog just cannot avoid and will do anything to get those treats coming-luring method). Simply put, give the cue for the position, make the dog stand and keep giving treat and use your clicker or your word to let the dog know you like how he is in a position you want. Do it several times until you're confident that it's understood. Then slowly fade the lure until the dog can just do it with your command sign or word. Be patient it will take few to many sessions depending on how driven the dog is to the lure and to understand what is being asked of him. Hope this helps. Good luck :)

Are there any tips on how to teach the weight shift to a dog that just refuses to shift :D I have a small dog (Yorkshire terrier) that absolutely refuses to go down or shift the weight. I've tried wall behind her as well as having her on a platform. She tries to put her head down to get the treat and when that alone isn't enough, she just lifts her head and stands watching away from the treat. I've been trying several treats as well as made sure she'd be hungry and eager to work for food but I've had no success. So please, if there's any more tips and tricks (other than the ones mentioned in the video), that would be highly appreciated :) Also, my dog is only 7month and knows her basics (sit, lay, roll, stay, leave it, side (she comes sit on my side), touch, kiss and asking permission by sitting and looking to my eyes), but no more. Could this easy-looking trick be too hard for her? Thanks for your help! I love the way you teach and especially how you talk to your dogs!
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 2 года назад
Hi Mari! While the trick may not be too "hard" it may be that your pup needs to learn a little more about how they move their body (proprioception) before coming back to this one. I would recommend checking out a couple of these videos and teaching her a front foot target, rear foot target, and spin, and then maybe come back to this trick. Sometimes it's more about the dogs figuring out the use of their body than necessarily the way you're presenting the trick. Whenever I'm struggling with something I always try something similar, and then come back to it. Spin: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AEX8WknGkcA.html Front Foot Target: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cvg5xe1zyEo.html Rear Foot Target: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_DsAH1JQJ_8.html Leg Weaves: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F31aaTIQ9cs.html Hope that helps! @DoggyU
@DoggyU 2 года назад
Hey Susie! Hard to know what to do without seeing it. It sounds like I would take something more moist and that can be licked out of the hand and make sure I'm pushing directly diagonal so that tilting isn't possible. I'd also maybe click sooner at just the slightest weight shift. It sounds like your dog might not know what you were clicking for at first. But, without seeing it, I'm not exactly sure how to help! Loved this video and the trouble shooting tips. But, I am still struggling! My boy will immediately sit so I lure/ask for a stand and get that but by then he's so frustrated he's mugging my hand as I lower, he will either step his front feet back or just one foot and simply bend and lower his neck whilst still mugging my hand! I tried kibble instead of high value, figuring I needed to bring the arousal down a tad but nope! Or he'll simply plant all for feet square and get even more frustrated. I tried this on a platform and got the same and I tried having a wall behind but he kinda turns side on or just sits then gives up! Feel a real failure given that I am a trainer (fairly new) myself and I can't seem to sort this! I also tried getting him to plant his front feet on a marker (he can do that no issue) but still I get the same! I have tried stepping back to increase the space so that I can get more of a diagonal lure but he'll just step forward decreasing the space again!! Argh!
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 4 года назад
Hi Rona - that does sound frustrating for both of you! Here's some thoughts: my first thought is that you're asking for too much too soon. Slow is fast. So start by marking and rewarding taking the treat in the stand. If he's sitting your hand is too high. you want it level with his head and mugging you is fine! You want him invested in the treat. Just hold it so he has to lick it out of your hand. Mark little steps. Notice any shift of weight. if he's taken a step, you're not marking soon enough. You want to reward for tiny movements, and reward often! Have you ever heard of a unicorn trick? This might be yours! Unicorn tricks are the one trick you have to work on for a really long time to get and take in tiny increments. With my cattledog, it was the sit pretty. I literally took two years to build the muscles needed for the behavior! So, slow down, notice weight shifts, mark and reward often for just tiny bits of movement in the direction you want to go. Hope that helps!
