I picked up a pile of used CB stuff the other day and finally got a moment to play with them a bit. All of these needed work, but are now at least semi-functional. The cobra 19, the 25 and the 29 represent 75% of the Cobra line up.
"PA" mode - my gawd did we ever have fun with that. Put a 10 inch speaker behind the grill of my '69 300, plugged it into the PA output.... people could hear you for 2 city blocks. We'd go by the golf course and say "four" just before the dude was ready to swing and mess up his shot. We'd talk to people while stopped at a traffic light- they had no idea where it was coming from. Laugh until we couldn't laugh any more... laugh until our stomachs hurt. It might have been the most fun I've ever had
I had so many people wanting to fight me over my pa back in high school! I'm about to hook up my old radio shack pa speaker to my new cb install in my pickup for the nostalgia!
I ran Cobra's in my truck through out the 80's and 90"s by far my favorite still have one in the garage but speaker isn't working. In the house we are running a Royce cb and a Kenwood HAM. Love these videos.
I have a few 29’s different models. Easy to mod and parts pretty much any where you look and cheap. I am personally running a Cobra 200Gtl in my pickup right now. I can’t get over how clean the audio is in it. Always like your videos keep em comming!
I recently decided to get back into CB by starting with one in the car. What I ended up finding was a Cobra 25 NW LTD Classic for $20. Paired it with a Cobra 42" HG A1500 antenna and bought an analog SWR meter to dial it in.
@@FarpointFarms Value Village can be great. :) I'd been waiting for a used CB to turn up for a while and the 25 NW LTD is what finally did. Looks like it's an '06 model and part of the illumination is burnt out, including the meter light, but the radio itself works fine. Pick up a lot of skip from far away places, depending, but have also had a couple of good, strong local radio checks.
I have 2 Cobra 29 LTD Classic from 1989 also 1990 used of a friend and a New one 2014 in box set plus Undien Grant XL 2002 in 2010 and 2 Undien PC 68 XL radios to in 2008 and 2020 to ! All them in excellent shape too and been serivce by tech too!
Have you ever ran a Uniden 510 or 520? I have one from the 80’s and it still works great. They are a solid, basic unit good for modern passenger cars due to their size
Interesting info. I was wondering about your Ant. project. but you did built two barn additions..... Just last night I stuck my Hamilton Range Master up, just temp. attached to my extension ladder yesterday for the first time, just over my roof. with a thin little Ground cable going to a pipe in the dry dirt. I am amazed at the sound quality and the reach of about a mile. I get all over our lake Community and i think cover all of the lake ? Up the road to the Lake Camp Ground, about a Mile Just temp mounted. Not even yet up 50 foot on the Roan Tower, with all the ground redials I have for it..... Sounded so good I had to record Station ID and programed a longer play list !
Cool! That little range master really gets out there. Life has definitely kept me busy this summer. I wanted to make some videos on my little AM station as well as the tower and 100 other things, but that addition took every bit of my spare time for the last 1 1/2 months. Finally its done, and I can get back to playing with the cool stuff! The tower is in progress, but I did have to shrink it by 6 feet. On the other hand It now has mounts for a total of 3 antennas. The Imax 2000 at the top and a 2 Meter Ham on one side with a little UHF/VHF TV antenna on the other. Should look cool when it's done, and I hope my total lack of knowledge on building towers will not mean disaster when I finally lift it up! I'll be live streaming next Sunday at 7:30 eastern time and hopefully by that time the new antenna will be up and running!
I have a Connex 3300HP I put in my truck, I have a Cobra High Gear mic , Wilson 1000 antenna. Wondering if the mic is the best choice and do you have any suggestions or recommendation on that and the radio itself on how I might improve it? Thank you
The 148/142's clarifier acted as a delta tune as well. It is beneficial because those radios have such a narrow receive due to their excellent channel rejection and noise reduction. I would sometimes have to use it to tune someone in that was a little off frequency. Cheaper radios they sounded normal, but of course there was more hiss and static in the radio.
I got a 19plus that says 1988 on the back. It is a 5pin. No idea if it works. I've had it for nearly 20 years. My grandpa gave me the 19 and a 29 when I got my first vehicle. Never hooked them up until a few weeks ago I hooked up the 29.
hey my friend i got question for you?? i bought recently Precident andy 2 cb radio, and i got 2 meter handhelp radio amplifier i used before for my handhelp radio , can I used with my CB radio ???
They still make the Cobra 25, check on the Cobra website. I have had one for about ten years, and it's been about that long since I've used it, which usually involves a road trip, Georgia to New York and back, they're good company on the road. Actually I got into radio from my dad who gave me his old Cobra SSB radio that I put in my Ford Ranger when I was rolling up and down I-75, and 24 between my hometown and Fort Campbell.
I have a Cobra 90LTD and this is a kick but. I tweak and peak and it sounds great. The audio is unreal clean and clear, I think there is 4" speaker great tone.
I bought a Cobra 19 Plus about 15 years ago, GREAT little radio, I've had it in my truck about 12 years hooked up to a roof mounted Wilson 3000 antenna. The 19 Plus JUST quit working last week, I found a BRAND NEW one IN BOX on Ebay and bought it! Would you want the old one for free? (you pay shipping)
That 19plus was the one that started my radio hobby. Once got the great idea of running the audio into my 7 band graphic equalizer (showing my age). Sounding great on receive. Transmit had amplified feedback that sounded like a tortured cat. Disconnected it in quick fashion.lol. 73
I have an old radio that I really loved back in the day. I would like to get it back in service and I think it needs some work. In the 80's and early 90's finding a repair shop was relatively easy. Now it's like looking for unobtanium. Do you know of a repair shop for CB radios in the North Carolina area.
Hey Eric. Do you happen to have a cobra 20 lx laying around and can do a video on that like properly tuning? I just got into cb and bought a 29lx. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly
The Cobra148 GTL DX SSB was the holy grail here in the UK back in '81, very strong speech processor. Another much sought after was a Hygain5 l think , with its unique Roger beep. It kinda 'wilted', l was running a UK Nato 2000, a game changer back then, with double low SSB, and morse code. Always wanted a quad beam , but ended up with 7/8 wave Sigma IV, those Italians knew how to push power.
That's a nice score on those radios. I'm curious about how CB is useful to you in 2018. What's your daily CB routine like? Do you have a group of locals you talk to regularly? Do you use it to keep in contact with family members? I've been monitoring the band on my Icom R-75 for the past few weeks, and there are hardly any locals in my area. The few I hear seem to be in surrounding counties, and they mainly stick to SSB in the early morning hours. Any later than that and the skip rolls in obliterating any hope of hearing local traffic.
Kim McCarl they are decent starter radios, and if it’s an older model, and this is my personal opinion , I’d say fix it just because it is older. Most of us long time Cber would not use that particular radio as an every day radio but possibly as a backup.
Cool videos that you do. Even though I've been into CB'S since 1959, and had my own radio repair shop, I still enjoy watching, kinda like I've always done on the radios (sand bag). I do have one Cobra left in my mess of cb's. The one I have left, I may never part with , was brought to me back when I had my radio shop. A guy said he found it in the trash and he couldn't get it to work. He wanted me to fix it and do a tune-up on it. It had one corner of the circuit board broke off and gone (I'm assuming that was the reason it was in the trash). This radio looked like it just got unbox ed (it was nice). Anyway, when it was all said and done I called him with the cost and he told me to just keep it. It's a Cobra 148 GTL DX. I have it next to my ham radio to this day.
@@corydenew9519 let's make Australia a new Conservative state of the U.S. we will run all of the leftists out of both Countries as a part of the project. Then we can sit around and talk about Conservative things on the radio like Family, God, Community, Local Culture, Personal Values and our Work/Business. You know? The things that make life Wonderful. 73's M.H.
Hey $7 is a super awesome deal! Love to hear that stuff! I just sold 2 Cobra 25's with weather for $30 each! And I this week I picked a new Cobra 19 with a PA speaker for $30! And I came across a Cobra 29 LTD chrome with a fire stick antenna for $40! So you made a great find! Keep the CB videos coming I always enjoy the videos. Thank you -Josh
Nice deals. I found the cobra 19 ultra iv on clearance at wally world for $21. I was going to install it but I found a cobra 29 ltd classic in a dumpster before I got around to installing the 19. So I hooked up my freebie 29 last night and it seems to work fine! Hell, I even found 4 cb antennas that someone had tossed in the dumpster at my work but I bought me a wilson antenna anyways. But hey, now I've got options for my other pickup I suppose.
