Increased pay will hold drivers a lot more than a new tool . No matter how nice the tool . But the video I loved , short , informative and too the point . No doodling around with made up jokes .
29 years behind the wheel and us truckers get no cash 💵 for what we do . Long hours behind the wheel should get us BIG money per mile🤔? O well this must change because the youth of today want desk jobs and little work for big money ?
Been driving since 94, most important thing is the pay I get 50cents per mile and drive 18 Cascadia. Not as fancy as kw is but I bring home about 1500 a week. That's what keeps me with who I work for. Then a nice truck is a plus.
In Ireland and UK pay is by the hour local and if travelling to mainland Europe per 7 days is 840 euros minimum . The top companies in Ireland such as Dixon transport or Mcardle transport among others pay 120 minimum a day every day once you have left the yard so if you are waiting 3 days in Italy for a backload you are paid full whack everyday . When I say 840 minimum I mean take home pay which is the figure AFTER tax has been taken out . So just to recap : If you leave Dublin and do a 3 week trip to Europe you will come out with 2520 at the end no matter if the truck did 800 miles or 8000 .
That's interesting. In the USA they drive day and night like crazy. You have no time for anything. In Europe at least you are allowed to drink beer in truckstop bars.
I have one of these and I had the 86' sleeper three trucks in a row. This one is the worst. I didn't want the W-900 so I settled for this one. I sure miss all the room the 86' studio had. It was the best design Kenworth ever had. I use my top bunk in the 680 for my storage and in my 86', I slept on top and left the couch up at all times. it was great for relaxing and watching TV. I had a memory foam mattress on top of the cheap KW mattress and that made it a great restful night. The swivel chair is a wasteful gimmick. The table is always in the way. That closet he showed had no shelves and mine does and they take up any hanging room you need. The truck is quiet but so was my 600 and 660. The new cummins X-15 motor is the best part of my truck. other than that, I would like to see a new designed studio for the 680. This one is too small . My mistake but I will trade this thing in in a couple more years. I'll have to shop around and maybe go with a big bunk again. Sorry KW but you lost another customer.
hey great video I just got this truck assigned to me by my company 2017 model, previously driving a 2016 Freightliner this is a comfortable tractor to drive in with automated Transmision the only negative side of it there is no rom directly under bunk storage.
I got a studio sleeper and i took the bottom bed out put a couch from ikea moved the fridge to the top added a 32inch jensen 12v tv and i got toilet and a homemade shower also added a small kitchen area with a small sink and 1 burner induction stovetop
In my driving career, I have driven single axle day cabs with no a/c no fuel gauge no radio. Oh but it had a dash fan. 450 mile plus runs and work the dock for 4 plus hours.
Those trucks are tight as shyt. No space at all usless your solo or have stick bodies an im slim. Sticking with freightliner the rest aren't really the worth
I'm a KW fan... but I think truck manufacturers need to switch from coil mattresses to memory foam. People sleeping while going down the road will find that they bounce around a lot less! I will also say that Volvo has the best sleeper... it's just that their trucks are mechanically and electrically unreliable. If KW were to compete with their sleeper... it would be all over for volvo!
John Hull Lmao!!!! After I watched this video, I was like yeah, after 600 miles at's all I want to do is touch the floor for a cold Mtn Dew. Put the fridge waist level so it's easier to get to. Thanks for the comment.
@@cumminsrealpower680 yeah Volvo also same prob. it seems so stupid to reach to the floor or lay on the floor to see in the back of the fridge, when will the idiot designers get a clue?
Hell no, thats just stupid, you always want your fridge low from the heat and of course at the perfect position to grab stuff while in the bunk. Will never put it off the floor, ever in any vehicle.
neil - hey Neil, Starting now All semi tractor refrigerators will be raised and mounted 20” up from the floor. Storage cabinet or storage drawer will go under the fridge. No wait, a cassette toilet with a faux drawer face will pull out from under the fridge. Now we’re making progress! 😜
Horrible idea, pay them 25% of the gross and trucking will lose it’s truck driver shortage overnight. Hell, even owner operators will give up their trucks for that kind of money.
Truckers who are paid by the hour are some of the laziest workers money can buy. They’ll spend more time at the local gas station then they will getting loads. % pay is the way. Keeps them on their toes knowing if they spend more time fucking off the less they’ll be getting paid.
I drove it for 16 months. Not bad . You have to hit or kick everywhere if you want to make sure it’s closed. For sure they are out of 18th century already but Scania long line is still 100’s of years ahead
You always got that one person that gotta bring his gay truck in the conversation 😂,I wonder why Australia uses American style trucks for the rough roads, cause it's built tough 🖒😂
The latches are cheap and won't stay closed. He said nothing about the battery covers flying off these trucks. I have one. The Eaton automatic is jerky and about as smooth as a corn cobb.
Hello there, on this video you mention the slipping bed or driver studio can be order in 76` or 86` I looked at Kenworth website and there is no mention of 86` only 76` could it a mistake?
This is an own/OP model not for us company grunts.for us team couples we dont need an upper bunk make the bottom bunk like a futon, put storage where the upper bunk is. Yah I know that's a custom thing, but more and more couples are getting into trucking...
Just jumped into one from a Volvo 780 I can't for the life of me figure out how to pick up the bottom bunk to access the storage area without having to step outside and use the outside door can someone enlighten me
We have this truck. Mirror only works if you are 7 feet tall. Fridge design is a joke, we had it change to shelves style, and the closet is deceiving it small, also the table for dining is very awkward. Kenworth needs to take design notes from Volvo when it comes to studio sleepers.
The biggest downside for me in the t680, is the cab, which is narrower compared to the T-700 and T-2000, it has some limited sight when backing, for me its been kind of difficult to back in tight spaces with 22 years experience, after driving only and only a T-2000 all these years, nothing else, but due to a rearend accident caused by a distracted trucker, it was totaled, and had no options but to buy a T680
So let me get this straight. You can sleep in it. You can eat it in. You can drink beverages in it. You can watch TV while eating and drinking beverages in it. But if you have to take a leak or a dump, you have to get out in the cold rain or drifting snow, or howling wind. Right? Sounds like a deal-breaker to me.
The point I was trying to make is that if you're going to spend megabucks on a fancy rig with all the comforts of home, why not make a space for a toilet and a shower? If I'm gonna spend $150K - $200K on a new truck with a personal accommodation, I'd rather not crap in a 5-gallon bucket. And forget about pissing in a jug. I've done that in a camper and it stinks really bad. And what happens if you're a chick? Use a funnel? At the very least they could put in a cubby below the bunk with a slide-out Thetford toilet. But even that's kind of primitive. And if you're team driving, forget about it. Even a husband/wife team would have a problem with that. I bet I could design a decent rig and I'm a schmo. A toilet-shower combo in 12 square feet. Three feet wide and four feet long. We're not talking a "Hollywood shower"; just a quick soap and rinse with a hand-held "boat shower" wand. A gallon of water max. One of the manufacturers will do this and then everyone else will copy.
NO BULL SHIFT S. it’s not the good roads that you have to worry about I’m sure it would suit the linehaul drivers over there we service lots of mine sites and some times it takes seven hours to do 100 kilometres because of the road conditions 48 degrees Celsius 3 trailers and bull dust doesn’t go well with plastic motel rooms on wheels. Just saying!
Damn😔 did they took out that cabinet that was on top where the microwave goes? Btw if you take out those drawers under the tv you can fit so much more stuff there, it might not look as presentable but very practical 👌 I love this truck but have y'all seen that 2018 Cascadian or the Nikola interiors!? 😍 they been stepping up their game!
Anyone who makes a 60 year old driver take the top is an asshole. Unless the other dude is over 300lb, then I don't blame you. On the other hand. You first step on the bed, then the little shelf above the fridge, then lumber yourself into the top bunk.
Truck alone will not retain drivers. Pay driver according to 1970 standard, which equals to about $250k annual pay. Now, didn’t Volvo already had a nicer sleeper in mid to late 90’s and KW is still not there? - kw should really try to expand on their 86 studio sleeper.
currently driving a 2017 T680.....The settings for intermittent wipers is terrible and why couldn't the brains of the operation make it so you don't lie down in sleeper and realize you forgot to turn it on up front??? You cant activate fan motor on or off from sleeper....come on you dopes!!
stay on the road for entire year. imagine how much money can save up since u dont pay rent and other utility bill down. so many perks to be a truck driver.
2phalanges Your food bill and laundry bill and supply bill and uber/taxi bill will make up for it. Especially when you get tired of taking a shower and a shit in public places.
stfu already. iv been driving for over 3 yrs. shower is free when u fill up. laundry is dirt cheap. uber? taxi? for what? you sound like a weak sauce. this is normal. if u cant handle this maybe you are in the wrong line of work little man.
B Randell One would assume, that being ready to bed, and as such either in socked, or bare feet, stepping on the outer most edge of the bottom bunk shouldn't be too difficult.
Kenworth extortion at its finest. I own a T680 and I want to get the plate that allows the passenger seat to swivel. Called the manufacturer and they said they can't sell it to me, I have to get it through the dealer. Called 4 different KW dealers and all want $1,500.00 for the bracket.
I won’t buy a KW in the near future. I just slipped off the road last Friday on black ice and guess what the roof tear off in two parts really easy. I did not see any cross members on roof. Thank God didn’t roll over, if i’d Have, probably would have taken my head off to ground. It’s a total loss. In 17 years is my first accident. Insurance will pay for it, thank God. I will definitely go back to Freigthliner. I have seen drivers having an accident and never seen a roof tear off like in my T700. I got it brand new in 2013. I guess it was time to jump to a 2018 or 2019. Will go back to Freigthliner. That T700 since new always had an air problem on both doors and KW never fixed it rigth. It was a piece of junk, I guess that’s why they stopped making them and came with the T680. Be safe drivers, God bless you and God bless the great USA. Ps. One point, that T700 I found after I signed paperwork that it was build in México. They charged me for an America’s product, but build in a foreign country. Will have to see on my next truck, made in the USA. Be safe.
Absolutely the WORST truck I've ever been stuck driving. Barely any room for storage, the auto rising seat is a pain to get comfortable in. Volvo 880 is the most comfortable
