Identifying printed circuit board (PCB) electronic components is educational and fun. Be sure to save screws and make notes about order of parts, for putting device back together. Elements identified in mini video camera and Samsung phone include: capacitor, resistor, transistor, diode, inductor coil, video cable, battery, Winbond flash memory, Samsung SDRAM, chip-on-board microprocessor, Aero transceiver and Avago radio frequency (RF) amplifier.

Right on Paul! Like your smartphone circuit board tour. A straightforward description of all parts and functions. Fan!

There's something fun about ID'ing parts.

I have a question. I found a tiny green piece, a circuit board? I have no idea. It has gold looking metal on it. It says videojet 2011. Someone I know, left it at my house. I think he used to take cellphones apart. What is It? Can I email you a pic?

so just googling the lettering on a component will tell you what it is and who makes it. what is the most recent phone out there now?

Hello, you don't happen to know if my OS would still be able to run if I cut out the transceiver and/or the radio amplifier? I'm trying to make an older working phone loose all radio capabilities (such as cellular, wifi, BT and FM) as a fun project.

Hey Paul do you know how I can turn the amp and speaker in a cell phone to a portable microphone and speaker?

I really don't know. You could use mini condenser mic into LM386 amp module to small 8 ohm speaker for low volume application. Maybe there's Bluetooth solution to broadcast sound 10m +/-

Paul would you happen to know if I could by any chance rescue my S3 if I mixed up the polarities at the battery pins. The dang thing refused to charge normally so I force fed it through USB lol, it worked great until I forgot how I had wired it and fucked myself over. You recon there could be a single component to replace or would you say the entire board is fried?
@p1nesap

Most likely there could be a single component to replace (would be challenging): either a capacitor or overload voltage/polarity protection diode like this: datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/MAX14670-MAX14673.pdf Open up phone and try to ID fried component. If you fix it please post back or make video as many would be interested.

Legendary!! Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond! I'll read over the info you supplied and probe in and around the power chip (will more than likely have to take a drive and ask pops to do the same) and then report back with any findings! Until then, all the best!
