Getting the perfect drift while nymphing is crucial. It is THE way to put more trout in the net.
But do you HAVE to get a 20-30 foot long in the exact seam on every cast? The answer is no. Do you always have to fish within a rod's length? No. Sometimes all you need are 5-10 foot drifts for success (sometimes shorter!). The important part is they need to be perfect. Concentrating on shorter, perfect drifts is the key.
Join me as I fish a PA limestone stream. I talk about what I see and more importantly, what I expect out of my drifts (and catch some trout along the way!). So, hopefully, the next time you hit the stream, it can help you when you encounter certain situations.
Tight lines,
Cory
