Lynden, your dedication and sincerity is very much appreciated. This November I will be featured performing Take Five at a concert and watching your tutorial on Take Five has been a tremendous help. Thank you a bunch.
This is the best take5 lesson on yiutube and my Dads best Jazz piece played drums till late 90s. Thank you Lynden for your enthusiasm and tutorials. Breaking the complicated nd difficult piece made so simple and easy. This looks like you are reading my mind.😊 and catering to what I need. Thank you so much Lynden for your detailed work. Taking your precious time and helping me learn the Saxophne. Im loving it. ❤
Hi Edmond, thank you for this. I’ve just finished filming a break down of the chords for Misty and I’m editing it when I get a break between my live clients, hopefully it will get done today or tomorrow 😂🤝🎷🎷😎😎
I Lynden, it’s Wilson from Montreal. Take five is also one of my favourite song. Can you tell me which backing track device you’re using. I have a lot of materials that I use. But I need a backing device like yours. Thank you!
@@wilsoncadet6651 thanks Wilson for asking, have a look in the description of the video and you click on the link to “buy me a coffee” or PayPal 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
The long phrase at 14.15 min mentions two times G at the almost end of the phrase, but a hear two different notes? After one year of playing the altsax this is really nice to learn! Thanks for that.
Thank you so much for pointing this out to me, the second G should be a G # and I have changed the description of the video to reflect that. Thanks again 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷
I have recently joined a local community band (Near Toronto Canada) we are doing a piece which includes a section of Take 5. I am so glad I have found your video because the 5/4 counting was really a struggle. Your instruction is extremely useful. Thank you.
Lynden … I have the notes down , but never have got the timing . Your video is brilliant and easy to understand … now I have retired I can spend all day getting this nailed . You are amazing . Thanks
Trefor thank you, that’s extremely kind of you to say and I’m delighted that this will help you with the timing. Please stay in touch and let me know how you’re progressing with it 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
Yup, he really does. I’m only a few months into playing saxophone (though I’ve played guitar for years so my musical theory knowledge is OK) and he makes what were “no way in hell” tunes maybe possible!
This was the second song I started learning years ago but got distracted by other tunes . I’m going to pick up my Alto tonight and go back to put this to bed properly . This song is great for the learning curve . Much appreciated .
Hi lynden thanks for a great video so easy to follow take 5 is a personal favourite of mine and i agree take it slow it is so easy to try and play fast on this song because that is how paul desmond plays it but like you said play it slow at first you have to disipline your self to do this,,thanks for taking the time to post this video and helping novices like me on there musical journey...Pete,,,spain
I love how your studio set up gets better and better. As a broadcast guy I see it and applaud you. Also absolutely love your videos. Big fan. I’m only 4 years into sax game since covid pushed me into it. Thank you for making it easier for me to learn. Cheers
Nic that’s absolutely fantastic feedback, thank you so much. I’m trying really hard and this is very new to me. I’m delighted that you’re enjoying and finding my videos useful 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
Thank you so much for this great video about this grate song, it is very easy to follow and to learn with your explanatios. I always lern the songs following the music sheet, it is the first time that I have learnt a song only with the notes indication (A,Bb, etc). Is easier to internalise the melody, as if you transcribe the song from the original. I encourage you to do more of this video for other songs. A possible proposal would be "Don't mess with Mr. T" from Stanley Turrentine. Thanks!!!!!! 🎷
Sergio, I’m super grateful for your very kind support, thank you so much and this really motivates me to keep making videos, thanks again. I will think about the tune that you mention and please let me know if you have any more suggestions for content that you’d like to see 🎷🎷🤝🤝😎😎
Lynden, your sincerity in sharing your knowledge really shines through this tutorial. I used to play Take Five many years ago. I never really analyzed it. I just played it and let my years of playing experience take over. I also just found out that the band leader on an upcoming concert later this year wants to feature me on Take Five. Well Lynden, because of your excellent tutorial, I will re-listen to it and incorporate your excellent advice. Thank you.
Wow, thank you Tony. That’s really nice of you to say and I’m absolutely delighted to know that you’re watching and enjoying my videos. Good luck with your performance on Take Five and Tony please stay in touch, I’d love to hear how it goes. I’d also appreciate your input on any other tutorials that you’d like me to make, if you have a moment please let me know and thanks again 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
More than 10 years I play this amazing song on piano solo. Hard to learned because Eb is a "full back keys" 😂. You made me smile because when I started sax, I also say that "this is my goal". I realize with your video that alto is a good instrument for this because you are in C (lucky guy!). On my C melody it is hard but it gives a beautifull objective. Thank for sharing ❤
Great vid . Next song to pick maybe just the two of us Mr Grover Washington jr. Or God bless my solo by Illinois jacquet, to many to list . Happy with whatever ya choose. Keep the great work up. Regards Rick .
I think you’re teaching Method is brilliant. I’ve only been playing two months but have learnt loads watching and listening to you. Would like to learn how to play at the correct speed. Got a metronome but just don’t get it.
More Gold Lynden!! I’ve been trying to play this favourite of mine since I picked up the Sax 2 years ago. I’m mainly self taught but have had a few lessons, certainly learned more from your videos. Im a Brit but based in Australia. I play a Yany bronze Alto but looking to pick up a Tenor and have seen your Goldington range. Could be interested in picking one up. I’m visiting the UK soon. Again great useful content. Thanks Gary
Gary thank you so much and please let me know about your progress with Take Five, I’d love to hear how you get on with it. I’m delighted that my videos are useful for you and please get in touch when you’re in the Uk. Just Google my name, I’m easy to find 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎🇬🇧
Rex thank you so much! I’m so happy to know that this is useful for you and please let me know how you get on with learning this fabulous tune. Thanks again 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
Having the weekend off, I gave it a go and it's so much fun to play. So I'm super excited to learn this song and extremely thankful for the lesson. I owe you coffee.🤗
@@REX-007 thank you so Rex, we really appreciate your support and encouragement and I’m so happy that this is helping. Please stay in touch and let me know how you’re getting on with it 🎷🎷🤝🤝😎😎
John thank you so much for your kind support and comment, we really appreciate it. And please stay in touch, if there’s things you’d like me to make tutorials on then do let me know. Thanks again 🤝🤝🎷🎷
Thank you so much Mary. Yes it took a really, really long time 😂😂 and my brain melted at least four times. But I love this tune so much and I want to share it with you so I stuck at it. I was aiming to make the most comprehensive tutorial on Take five on the internet, do you think it is?
Outstanding work, Lynden. Thanks for giving us a detailed insight into such a brilliant tune. Now I just need to put my tenor down and pull the alto out of its case ………. Paul
Another great video Lyndon. Take Five is one of my favorites. My problem is I start to learn it and hear another song I want to learn and get distracted. What is your secrets for sticking with a song until you really learn it well? Great job with this video.
Thank you so much Mark for your lovely feedback and I really hope that this tutorial helps you learn Take 5 completely 👍👍 I guess the secret is to as you have said, be super determined to finish one complete song and not to allow yourself to be distracted. So I’m going to set you a challenge. Learn all of Take five, including the solo. Can you do it? Let’s say to have a month to get the head and the solo down, so that’s around 15th of March, is that possible for you to do? Please let me know if this works 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
Hello again Lynden! I wrote several weeks ago. I want to comment later on your fabulous Take 5 tutorial but thanks to you I purchased numerous Session Band Jazz and Quartet apps for my ipad! It seems intuitive but for the life of me, I cannot find a voice over tutorial going over the basics and or advanced options. Do you have any ideas? Thanks a lot from Georgia!
Hello from the UK and thank you for your feedback. I get a lot of people asking about how to use these apps, I’m considering making a tutorial just focusing on that alone 👍👍🤝🤝🎷🎷
@@lyndenblades I was going to nag you but I am giving you a break! LOL. Thing is the app has been around for at least 10 years. There are several real clunky, junky tutorials on youtube but I am surprised they missed the boat on it. Do they assume I have ESP to figure out the quirks? If you COULD do several videos on it SLOWLY explaining it all, that would be great. I will noodle around a bit on them but would appreciate guidance from someone "that has been there". Still trying to wake up, just 730 am on the east coast!!
Hi Pete, thank you for your message. At the moment I'm teaching full time from home and I'm virtually at full capacity so the videos I'm making get done in the gaps between clients or in the evening or very early morning. Then the editing takes a massive amount of time and at the moment I have at least three videos that I'd like to make next and then about another 10 possible videos. Thank you so much for offering to pay for a tutorial but perhaps a zoom meeting might be quicker, cheaper for you and that's something we can arrange immediately. We can focus on this one tune for you. What do you think?
Thank you very much for this. I need the sheet music. There are so many variations that I must ask you which version are you using ? Would you please say which one ? Where could it be obtained ? Is there a specific supplier ? A code to quote ? Thanks again.
