Take Off Your Shoes In MY HOUSE! - RANT

Why do people think it's okay to wear shoes in another person's house? It's rude and gross. People walk on unspeakable things on a daily basis. Our house is supposed to be the safe place to comfortably avoid all the dirt and grime of society. Don't bring that crap into the home. Take off your shoes!

What gets me is when people say take your shoes off yet they have 2 cats going in and out the house all day jumping all over everything. I take my shoes off because like you said it’s hygienic but pets are also absolutely filthy.

House slippers. My Japanese wife keeps several pairs of inexpensive slippers in different sizes near the entry door. These slippers are never worn outside. Guests remove their shoes and slip on a clean pair of house slippers. They are made of washable material and reusable. Everyone is happy. Arigato Adam.

My favorite podcast right now is Take Your Shoes Off, with Rick Glassman. He's a super funny dude, highly recommended. He's friends with Bobby Lee, Santino (Santino is one of his best friends, and his episodes with Santino are some of the best), and all those other guys, and I discovered him when he was a guest on some other podcasts. His podcast is by far the most well-produced and imaginative out of any of them. But he happens to have autism and OCD, and he always requires guests to take their shoes off (and he has various other tics/quirks about him, which usually just add to the humor).

I definitely think that it should be up to the homeowner to make whatever rules in the house they deem necessary, and guests to the house should respect those rules, regardless of how they feel about any of them. If I was a guest and the homeowner told me to do the Macarena when entering the house, that's their rule, so I would just respect that. It's *their* fuckin house! I can turn around and leave if I think their rules are so ridiculous, or I can stay and follow the rules. And they can do the same when they're the guest at my house.

It’s something I’ve gotten better at doing, but sometimes I get careless with removing my shoes. When you’re at someone else’s house, it’s a different story. I’m actually going to a friend’s apartment next weekend, so this video was a good reminder that I’ll be taking my shoes off at the entry when I go.

I agree with you about the shoes, it would be nice if ppl took them off if asked but I couldn’t ask a person who comes by to do it. Even though it’s my home I would just feel like I’m being rude. Especially if it’s someone who came by to fix something. I’m not sure but I think the majority of ppl don’t ask others to take their shoes off before entering their homes, I think if it was more common it would be easier for me to ask ppl to do it without feeling like I’m being rude.
@matthewdekker6064

I would imagine it's more common in houses with mostly carpet as opposed to hardwood or vinyl/tile. It's much easier to clean things if all you need is a swiffer at most, but white carpet can be impossible to keep clean, especially if you're allowing people to wear their shoes inside. I think a happy medium is to mention that you prefer people take their shoes off, but if they're fairly certain that there's nothing especially bad on their shoes (this includes any sort of grass, dirt, mud, etc.), they can keep them on if they want. This would apply mostly for people aged like 13+, because I think kids under that age probably don't pay much attention to what they've been mucking around in recently, so they don't get a choice in the matter. IMO I don't really care either way, though I do think it's a little strange if someone has crappy vinyl flooring that already isn't super clean. If someone has mostly carpet (especially light-colored carpet), I totally respect that. If the person is just coming into the house to fix something for you (someone you're also supposed to tip, in many cases), I'm just super non-confrontational (and I justify it by telling myself that they're doing a favor for me), so I would just allow it.

I cant agree with you on this one. All workers wear shoe covers while inside. Thats been a firm rule for about a decade now, if they dont theyre just rude. Every company supplies their workers with shoe covers...... Whats on a shoe that your vacuum or mop cant handle?... How do you bring groceries inside? Do you take your shoes off/on 8 times?... I can remember back as a kid, those freaky parents who would yell at you for wearing shoes inside. Those are the weird familes on the block. The ones no one visits.. the ones who get talked about behind thier backs....Youre not one of those are you? A group of your sons friends stop by and you start yelling "oh my gawd why do you have your shoes on? Get off the carpet, go outside and take them off".... Youre not that guy are you? People hate that guy. Those people often have furniture that no one is allowed to sit on. Cups you arent allowed to use. Bathroom towels you arent supposed to use as towels because theyre "decoration"... Ugh. Those people.

That leaves the houseguest between a rock and a hard place-- how do they dry their hands, if there's no sanitizer, no paper towels, and the only possible means of drying is off-limits because it's "decoration"?

I wear my shoes in the house because I don't roll around on the floor. Maybe if you have little babies.. I can understand people not want to wear their shoes in their bedroom but just walking around the living room or the kitchen. Now if it's raining out or theirs stuff on your shoes you want to take them off. Of course I'm not a germaphobe. I think exposing yourself to germs make you stronger. Also having a strong immune system. From eating healthy food, exercising and getting good sleep. Reducing stress.

It is better if they take their shoes off, especially if it is a tradesman. Actually the AT&T internet guys put plastic over their sneakers before they actially step onto the carpet. If anyone invited me into their home and asked me to take my shoes off I would do it b/c I am a guest.

I get laughed at but i have indoor flip flops. These are just for inside my house. I can’t do socks or barefoot on my old wood floors. It creeps me out. Little particles on your feet. I can scrub them and clean them but they get so dirty so fast.

I have indoor flip flops too. But that's a result of me walking barefoot at home to get more toe and foot mobility and then breaking my small right toe by hitting a door frame at 3am after a bathroom break because I'm clumsy. Yeah, so now I wear something, but I still practice toe and feet mobility while wearing em.
@marugochan131
@marugochan131 4 месяца назад
I think not only it's disgusting to keep your shoes in your or anyone's house because you bring outside shit (not litteral shit mind you) inside your or someone else's home from whatever place you walked in. But also because shoes always deform the bone structure of your feet already as is (since standardized shoes are not fitted to everyone's personal feet, like back at a shoe maker's shop), since we wear shoes at least 8-10 hours a day, you don't need to keep a "feet corset" at home/at one's place. It's just not necessary. Here, it's not the standard to have your outside shoes inside, people have guests slippers and stuff. And workers have some plastic caps (like for hair in some food factory) but for shoes, and they put them on their working shoes to walk into people's houses if they gotta do anything in there.
