In this video I will show you how to TakeOwnership and Grant full access permissions to files and folders.
TakeOwnershipEx can be used to obtain full access to files and folders on your computer.

Thanks for directing me to the excellent programme Take ownership ex. I had a pictures folder on my external hdd and even though I could finally get to open one sub folder at a time using the labourious time consuming method I would have spent hours and hours granting myself access to each folder. Even then there was a problem with opening the pictlures included in the folders. Irfan View would not recognize the headers. After downloading the programme you mentioned I had access in a few seconds and no more problems with the file headers, the pictures all opened perfectly. Thank you , thank you.

You might want to look at Winbubble, it has a lot of options, including taking ownership of a file. Thank you for your Videos. You are an amazing troubleshooter, and your videos will help lots of people that are in trouble.

when i open the advance setting.. its already show administrators in full control.. i still cant delete the file.. HELP!! i already follow your steps

I looked ALL over looking for a solution to this issue. Was starting to go a little crazy I think. Anyways, the suggestion for TakeOwnershipEX was all it took. Thanks for your help!!!

Hi, what AntiVirus do you recommend for a windows 8 user? I've gotten eset but it made my device lots and lots slower. Avast also doesn't seem to install.. So which is the good one?

How do you undo the action? Also, does this work on a My Passport drive. I keep getting the message 'You don't have permission, etc'. This happened ever since I interfered with the do not share options. Ever since that, I can't open some of my photo and video files.

i install windows 8.1first & later windows server 2012 & done all roles & management !but now i want to remove windows server & for that reason i already uninstall lots of server files of windows server from my windows 8 !But i couldn-'t uninstall it (windows server ) properly.but when i want to delate all the file but its says permission needed any solution ?

Awesome video. I just recently started having trouble every time I tried to use "save as" prompt with PDF's. Pop up says I need admin. permission to save to that location. I am admin. acct. and the only person using my private home computer. I have no idea why it started restricting me when I never had this happen in the many years since my first pc. I just wish I knew what happened that created the problem in the first place so I can avoid it happening again. I have heard someone say it was an update but regardless, I am going to try what you did here and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the informative video.

Finally, after countless searches without success, I actually fixed it on my own by stopping file sharing in home group and restored file locations to default in the properties tab. It was an instant fix that didn't even require a reboot. As for the pc not viewing you as administrator, that is because your user account is actually a standard account with an administrative title. There is a true administrative account but it isn't safe to use it because it makes you vulnerable to hackers and malware. It sounds crazy but it is like this to protect you. Here's my take on the process: Right click > properties > security tab > advanced > Near where it says "Owner" click "change" > Type in your computer name, mine was Nugen > Check Name > Ok > Apply > Ok, now ur back to the properties window > Advance > click on user and either "edit" or "change permissions" > Enable Full Control. Ask if you need further help

Britec09 After applying changes it says error and access denied. I gave it full access and it says I have full access, yet I can not delete a gopro video.... It has never done this before. I sent all of the videos to an external hard drive but it still left all of the videos and folder on the computer. All I want to do is delete them to save room. I have never had to "gain permission" to delete my own video...

Regarding the File Explorer, EVERY TIME I go to folder y, I must manually change the view layout to thumbnails. Then, EVERY TIME I go to folder x, I must manually change the view layout FROM thumbnails to details. I've spent hours trying to set each independently. My next step is to hit the damn thing really hard with a hammer.

My goal was to make a folder on a gig-drive accessible only to me. So I followed the step and took ownership of the folder and anything inside then removed any other groups/users with access. It worked, I took the drive to my sister's computer and her computer could not access the folder, good, great. But, then I followed the same steps on HER computer, and made my sister's computer take ownership etc. and the process was undone like... now she only had access... So it seems like fair process, I doubt anyone in my house will know how to undo this but my issue is... it's sort of easy to undo for anyone that knows how, ya'know? is there any way to slap a password onto a folder?

Just FYI, your directions were crystal clear, but they did not work for me. My admin already has all permissions except "special permissions." When I try to click either Change Permissions or Change next to the admin, I get an error: "Can't open access control editor. Invalid syntax." So I am right back where I started.
