Take Shelter-Movie Review **Spoilers** 

Since this is a spoiler review, I would like to make a spoiler comment. I was also thoroughly impressed with "Take Shelter", but I would like to pass along an alternate interpretation of the last scene. Though I cannot take credit for the following lines of thought (I read the idea on a blog somewhere) I believe they improve the film greatly. If you ask me, if Curtis was right all along about the apocalyptic storm in a "Shyamalanian" twist, it's all well and good, but it isn't all that interesting, because it doesn't give any additional insight into the relationship between him and his wife Samantha. However, what if the final scene isn't real, but a last dream sequence, just one from which we don't see Curtis awaken? And what if we consider the storm as not only a delusion, but also a symbol for the schizophrenia itself? The next to the last scene is the one where Curtis resolves, with Samantha's support, to seek inpatient treatment. She is now fully aware of the impending struggles they will face together, and yet still fully committed to her husband, and Curtis knows this. And that changes the tone of the last dream. Samantha and Hannah now also see the impending devastation of the storm, but now they are by his side. And the final line of the film, when Samantha simply says "Okay", is not one of fear or anger. It simply expresses her resolve to face whatever comes next. The ending is certainly open to interpetation. However, in my humble opinion, I believe an additional dream explanation makes for a much more satisfying finale.

You didnt mention the adorable little deaf girl, his daughter, who was played by an actual deaf girl. I thought she was great. In fact, I thought all the acting in this film was great. And that is rare in a film.

I cannot get over how dumb it is that his wife and neighbors would think he's crazy for building a tornado shelter and stocking it with food. In fact, it's crazy to live out in the country and NOT want do that. Completely unrealistic premise, total fail.

I looked at it as a psychosis of two phenomenon where one person's delusions can rub off onto another person. Kinda like his other movie Bug

The last scene wasn't real, that must be a dream or a vision, maybe his wife is dreaming that dream. It was a dream because oil never rains.

You forgot to mention... The Ocean Residing. Which means there is a Massive Tsunami coming too. I really like the Movie. "In the End Times...your Children and Old men will see Visions of what is Coming. " Hmmm. Sounds Familiar.

So they were at myrtle beach , but that wasn’t Myrtle beach. Not sure where they filmed the final scene. But it definitely wasn’t Myrtle. I live in South Carolina. I wish Hollywood would try to at least get the topography similar. It’s like Ozark. That is not Missouri. It’s upstate South Carolina or Georgia. I’ve been to the ozarks . That ain’t them.

I interpret the movie as a metaphor for paranoia and fear post 9/11.

The ending was ambiguous. Your interpretation of the ending could be one. My interpretation is she was dreaming.
