Be inspired by Tony Walsh's poem, Take This Pen, to speak your truth in a poem. Then, in sharing this film, inspire others: it doesn't matter who you are, or what you are, poetry creates a space where you can speak your truth.
Tony, with artist Chris Riddell, is helping National Poetry Day find the next RU-vid poetry star. If you're Uk based and 18 or over, you're eligible for the #SpeakYourTruthPoem competition, which Tony and Chris are judging (alongside RU-vid star Savannah Brown, Insta poet Nikita Gill and footballer Marvin Sordell.)
Footballer? Yes, Marvin, the former England under-21 striker - who played in the Premier League and in the 2012 Olympics with Team GB - took on his depression after coming across Tony's book SEX & LOVE & ROCK&ROLL in a bookshop. He speaks about this in Tell Me The Truth About Life: 100 Poems That Matter - an anthology of poems celebrating truth.)
The competition closes on 3 Oct 2019. Basically you enter by uploading a video of yourself speaking a poem you've written about a truth that matters to you, with the tag #SpeakYourTruthPoem. And email us when you've done it on truth@nationalpoetryday.co.uk.
