I'm a dad whose become a U8 coach this year due to lack of volunteers, so I'm starting from scratch and wanted to thank you for your tutorials. I've always kept training and games positive and fun, but thanks to you I have structure and process. Thank you so much 👏👍⚽
Battle boxes have been fantastic! I started last fall and continued into the spring. I have boxes setup before players arrive so they can get started immediately as we wait for the rest of the team. I also use it as our initial game warmup - my U10 team is self-organized and warming up correctly while I go meet with the ref and other coach. Coming back to this video to remind myself that I need to add more variation as we mature this season. Thanks for the great videos!
Hi Coach Rory, thank you for the awesome content. I have been utilizing a lot of your practice session videos for my youth co-ed rec team. I have been coaching for about 8 seasons, and my sessions have evolved and gotten pretty effective over the years. I owe you a lot of thanks! Also, I see you are a DO, and I wanted to thank you for your efforts in medicine. I'm a DO, as well, and work in Emergency Medicine, and work as a emergency department medical director in North Carolina. Coaching youth sports has been something that I love, and has helped me to stay sane during challenging times (including bringing home our 4th child 3 years ago in the beginning of all the lock down craziness). Just wanted you to know that your work in educating coaches has been helpful to me, and I appreciate your hard work, which has been helpful for me to bring something positive to my community, aside from the craziness that I (we) deal with at work on any given day (and night)!
Hey! Thanks for the kind words. Im EM as well. I also use youth soccer as my release! Thank you for what you do. It can be difficult at times to see how we impact people etc but we do. Really glad these videos are helping etc.
Thank you for sharing your training ideas. I appreciate your creativity in incorporating different aspects of the game into one training session. However, I do have some concerns about openers by the defender for an attacking scenario. The stimuli are counterproductive to the training objectives. A poor throw-ins/ pass is in favour of the defender and we ought to avoid to (unintentionally) encourage this. You solved this within versions 2 and 3.
Gracias, Coach. Great suggestions! The 2v1 with a throw-in is great, really similar to a regular game situation. (I wonder if we can use the same idea with your "short-corner" routine).
I remember you said to put least experienced kids at wings. Now what if I have a kid who's doesn't have a lot of speed but good eith the ball and cannon of a leg ? Where do u recommend
Both actually would be helpful. As a volunteer coach the content you put out has been so helpful in getting our girls ready and prepared. When it comes to training goalies I haven't found anything at the level of your videos. @@CoachRorySoccer
@@CoachRorySoccergeneral training. Is there a way to enhance reflexes? At the younger ages, they all seem to be so slow to react. Not sure if it’s just experience being the best trainer..
Coach, thanks as always for the session tips. I've found some success with the battle boxes, but it takes the boys (U10) some time to pick up the drill. I've found them to be hardest for the players that shows up late for practice vs just jumping into 2v2 to goals. With that in mind I have used them in the middle of practice because i know everyone will be there to hear the objectives/rules. I've been following you now for the past year, what are your thoughts on how to level up your coaching experience when you've never played soccer at a higher level? I think a bulk of your followers are in the 80% of volunteer parents who step up to coach without a background in the sport. Do you pick up the technical knowledge and experience through license courses? Seminars? Thanks again. Keep up the great work coaching the coaches.
I never played soccer at a high level. Actually pitched (baseball) in college. While I’ve done my USSF license to the C level as well as UEFA to C level, I’ve found self education and just day to day coaching to be the best teachers. Finding your mentors and style of play you prefer and then trying to implement it with your own teams. Lots of ups and downs but that’s the learning process. While I am paid this is not my full time gig so I think your right about my audience. I do try to represent and teach to that audience.
How is possible that Kids be late al training? Here, Spain, players that arrives late, cant do the session. Dominate 2vs1 is key at football, offensive and defensive way.
