Don't tell the RU-vid heroes: Alyssa just flew a back-country strip in an unmodified airplane with (gasp!) 6 inch tires.

The regular tires are more affordable ;) The backcountry strips I am flying at are well maintained so that I don't need the bigger tires that are good for the rough unimproved strips.

I’m really enjoying this series of videos. Also liked the article in AOPA Pilot, I would add that RU-vid is a great resource when trying to gather information about unfamiliar airports. Anytime I’m flying somewhere new, I search the airport on RU-vid. There will typically be a few videos of someone landing there.

Thanks for the ride! Sometimes those trees on final look like they wanted to grab your wheels! Glad that they didn’t. 😊

This has been a great series. I have a '59 172, thus similar performance but I need to practice these techniques more. Flying into the Cheat River Fly-in was my first really challenging strip. I really love my EZ Flap handle so I don't have to lean down for flaps as I have static shoulder belts.

I appreciate the training from McCall Mountain Canyon Flying Seminars that taught me a lot of these techniques and gave me the confidence to try these strips!

@@alyssacobb3432 You are very smooth at all aspects of flying. I've been flying for 4 years now. I get better everytime I go up. Flew my light sport from Illinois to South Carolina twice now. Not sure how confident I'd be going into those dogleg grass strips. But it sure looks fun. You have been doing some great pieces for AOPA lately. Keep up the great work. And yes I'm an AOPA member.

Just dig up the trees at the end of the runway!!!!! It's about as bad as powerlines at the end of a runway!!!! Just bury that section of powerline!!!
@alyssacobb3432
@alyssacobb3432 Год назад
The trees are on different property and permission hasn't been given to cut them down. But, that certainly would make the strip less challenging!
@chester8420
@chester8420 Год назад
@@alyssacobb3432ybe your dad could make a phone call and get them gone. Especially if he offers to pay them a few bucks for the trees. I needed to dig up a few trees just across the landline on my neighbor's property for an irrigation system to clear. I explained why I needed them gone, told them I would smooth the dirt back out, and offered to pay them for the timber. They didn't have to oblige, but they did. You might consider offering to take one or two of their trees you cut down to your local sawmill and give them a few boards of their own lumber as payment. Most landowners would love to have some of their own lumber! Wouldn't cost much and it would make a good neighbor and a much better runway for the day that engine starts sputtering on takeoff.

We are sick of low flying, wannabe bush pilots flying over our house. Hopefully the FAA is going to catch up with ya'all soon
@flywithaopa
@flywithaopa Год назад
We were purposely very careful in this series to not fly low over houses. This strip is away from any populated area and there are no houses directly under the pattern or the approach. We encourage pilots to fly friendly to not offend neighbors.
@billsantos1479
@billsantos1479 Год назад
@@flywithaopa We appreciate that! And thank you. We live near Trigger Gap airstrip 17a. When the RAF first opened this strip they said it was for pilots to LAND and camp and float the river ect. Then a bunch of aircraft showed up..up to 20 or 30 a day!! Very few actually landed and camped ect. They just flew around in circles doing touch n goes, over our houses, a few hundred feet off the ground with their engines wide open!! "Backcountry" planes that didn't seem to have any mufflers! When we contacted the RAF they claimed it wasn't happening and there was no problem. It was only thru diligent efforts over years that we have finally had an impact and things have gotten better. The local RAF representatives have been basically useless and dishonest. We don't believe they reflect the GA community as a whole and every group has some bad apples. We appreciate the GA community doing what it can to educate it's members as this activity becomes more popular. Thank you for responding and giving us a chance to air our complaints.
