I get that you want to go back to your roots and have some nostalgia and I support you but you are one of the reasons why I started fly fishing. I will still watch your videos because you are an amazing creator

You can't make everyone happy. No matter what you say or do there will be tons of people knocking you for fishing this way or that way. I like the mixed content of fly and spin fishing and I rarely fly fish but I still enjoy it all. I think the biggest attractor to your channel is the catch, clean and cooks and it's also nice to see you getting into other species.

As someone who mainly fly fishes. Ive watched your videos for a few years watching you mainly spin fish. And I truly enjoy your content. Catching fish, exploring new waters, and cooking up good meals has always been inspiring. Love to see you fly fishing but you have good content regardless. Keep doing you man. You have a good following of people who enjoy your videos. Trout is delicious :)

Good on ya man. I spin fish and have gotten the hard sell on the bank from the fly guys more times than I can count. I love throwing rooster tails and twitching jigs here on the Columbia and don’t understand why it’s such a sin to them for me to be out enjoying my river . Even the fellas floating marshmallows off the bottom deserve to be into the fish as much as the guy in full Simms with a 2000$ set up. Fishing is for everyone, at every level, to enjoy as they see fit. Keep ‘em coming dude, you’re my fav RU-vidr and you pump out amazing content.

I can relate bro. I LOVE fly fishing, and try to focus content on it occasionally, but spin fishing with lures is what got me into fishing. Do what you want; your content will still be 🔥

We eat giant puffball mushrooms regularly. They're nice because there really isn't anything similar that you could confuse it with. What we've found is they're best smaller than softball size. When they get really big they have kind of a dog urine smell to them. When they're smaller they can be similar to a white mushroom like you'd get in the store. They do tend to cook down a lot.

Your brook trout fishing videos are my favorite. Just be sure to make at least one big late October campout brook trout video! That's my favorite one each year! Enjoy the break!

As a fly fisherman and also a spin fisherman I totally understand taking a break from the fly and going back to the “roots” of a spinning rod. I love fly fishing but I do find myself still picking up a spinning rod every once in a while!

I do both conventional fishing and fly fishing. I totally get what you’re saying. In a way sometimes it feel it’s much easier to land fish with a conventional rod but with a fly rod even though you may catch more they are harder to land. That can be fun but when it’s a toad you feel you should have just fished conventional. Keep up the good work man! ❤

I have flyfished for years and there is no question there is a time for ultra-light spin gear. I am heading 7 miles up into the mountains above Sant Fe tomorrow to fish an Alpine Lake full of nothing but Rio Grande Cutts., a remarkable fishery ... to this day, I have never caught a Tiger, so you are keeping that dream alive for me. Aye I totally agree with you man! I have a fly rod and rarely use it, don’t get me wrong it’s fun to use the fly rod! My favorite fishing is to use a rod and reel and just throw a worm or lure in the creeks and rivers and catch fish!

We all go thru cycles where we concentrate on 1 style more than others. But having fun and figuring out what the fish want is very gratifying.

I like mixed content too. Various technics, the ones of your choice is just fine. In the end, you go fish at nice areas, you always catch nice fishes and your videos are cool. That's all what matters to me.

I also grew up spin fishing, i didn’t start fly fishing until 2019. Since then I’ve pretty much only fly fished, but i do go bait fishing for the catfish and carp in my area. It’s just fun🤷‍♂️ people on the internet are wack, don’t feel bad for Fishing how you want. I watch your videos whether you’re using flies or whatever else.

Your title scared me for a minute, thought you might be taking a break from videos…. I’ve noticed the same thing about (some) fly fishermen. Was at a lake on the kayak last weekend and caught 10-15 brook trout in about 3 hours on rapalas and minnows while a few fly fishers on float tubes were getting skunked. And I’ve experienced the other way around where they’re killing it and I’m getting skunked. Just gotta do what you enjoy which for a lot of us is just chasing the excitement of setting that hook and landing a pretty fish.

Hey man ! I've been here from the beginning ! I switched to full fly fishing at the age of ten (I'm 26 now) and I only do some fly fishing. As you said tried it and I fell in love with it ! I love your fly fishing videos a bit more only because its speaks more to me ! But I also love the others ! So man just do whatever you wants and let the haters behind ! Originally spin fisherman but took onto fly fishing and love it. But when trout fish I carry the fly rod and my ultra light spinning combo. The best of both worlds. You use to do this when I started watching your vids. Why did you stop?

You could always switch out the treble hooks for single siwash hooks. That way you dont have to worry about the trout getting a mouthful of hooks.

Primarily a fly fisherman. However, I always bring a spinning rod or two with me. In fact, I'll typically have both options in my truck at all times. Fishing is life, though. Best believe I'll still be watching the vids, man. 💯💯

Sometimes you just have to go with what works. Invited some friends up to my cabin today. None of them are what I would call good fishermen, so I bought 2 dozen night crawlers and they had a blast. I have a private lake that I want everyone to catch and release but sometimes you just have to change and bring out the worms. Barbecued their fish with fresh corn and baked beans. Sometimes you have to change how your fishing.😊

Been a subscriber since the beginning, and watch every video regardless of what type of rod you're using 👍 I feel ya man. I just got into fly fishing last summer, and have been really enjoying it. (Well, after the first couple very frustrating weeks at least) but I'm the same story, fished a spinning rod for years on rivers. Throwing a spinner and pulling put a big brown, you can't beat it. Fly fisherman are just like bass fisherman. Their way of fishing is king and everything else is a sin. Ya know what? I bring my spinning rod and my fly rod to rivers all the time. I'll toss a few flies on a section, and if I don't get anything, then I go aggressive and toss a spinner or rapala. Two weeks ago I caught my PB Colorado cutt exactly like that. I don't think either is better than the other, and I will admit that fighting a fish on a fly rod is a unique experience a spinning rod can't re- create, but each have their place and I'll never give up one for the other.

I have a fly rod, tenkara and spinning rod. I haven’t touch my fly rod and tenkara rod in over a year. I’ve been enjoying throwing spinner more than anything anymore.

Bro, never leave any rod at home. I've left my fly rod home and regretted it, and I've left my spinning rod and regretted it. Always worth taking both unless your limited on a deep hike or overnight.

I don't hate the fly fishing. But the setup you use - a few hooks and indicator (bobber) - can be used on ANY line/rod. It's not like the fly fishing that Quinn and Pitt did in their movie, where that style relies on fish attacking a bug on the surface of the water. Yet certainly glad to see you with a spinner in your hands again.

I've been subscribed since you were ~20k subscribers, so maybe a year or something. First, congratulations. You are fishing/posting_videos for a job which is sick. If... and i get this an IF... but if you asked for my advice I would tell you to use some fresh ingredients and unique recipes. Fishing advice/videos are awesome for those of us who can't get out as much as you can. But cooking advice is almost as valuable. I'd love to see some more creative ways to cook trout than use rehydrated hash browns. Also, i get you don't share what streams or spots you are fishing at, but if you told people HOW to find cool/unique/new spots to fish at???? That would be amazing. For example, I know how to fish. I know what spots work for me. I am terrible at finding new spots. I use google maps. Ask friends. Walk miles and miles trying to get somewhere supposedly good. If you explained how you find spots, without showing the spots you have found, I think people would appreciate it. thats my unpaid for two cents. Which is actually twenty dollars in this economy.

I had bad experiences with fly fisherman because as a 13 year old I was fishing spinning gear in the same area as they were fly fishing in. And eating trout! I have hated fly fishermen ever since. And I fish with a fly rod now too. Still eat them and fish other styles too!

Ive been getting back to the backs. Fly fishermen are obnoxious about the c and r and flies only. And so it draws me away from fly fishing. I think its gmawesome to experience and have experience is all the styles of fishing because it teaches out a lot about fish behavior and how to improvise with a loaded tackle box of techniques and fish knowledge. Having a diverse skill set and being able to adapt to any situation with that skill set.

No you're taking a break in the woods to think of the next spot.

I have never owned a fly rod, but I use flies on my spinning rod all the time with the other spinners, jigs, worms and powerbait.

I also grew up as a traditional spinner fisherman, but over the past 3-4 years have become a die hard fly fisherman. I personally love it and don’t have that draw to go back, but fishing is fishing. Who cares how you do it. Especially if you’re a catch and cook fisherman, then it doesn’t matter how you fish for them. 99% of the time I catch and release since I’m not crazy about eating trout, so for me fly fishing just works out better 🤷‍♂️ but have fun returning to your roots!

I love brook trout. At my favorite lake, I once hooked a 20+ inch brookie with a Rapala. It shot out of the water violently and shook the hook. I need to get back out to that lake to experiment with different colors and sizes to see if I can land a giant like that.

I started out spin fishing and got into fly fishing about 2 yrs ago. I love fly fishing, and feel like its more effective for trout in streams and rivers than spin fishing. But especially in still waters, I still spin fish, even dunking worms and powerbait. Both methods are a lot of fun. The purists are kind of funny to me some times, and I definitely am not one. I get tired of spin fishing, then I fly fish and vise-versa. Your videos are still great no matter the method used. 👍

Personally, I don't like the fly fishing videos as much because I'm a real angler (haha jk) and I just use spinning rods, rapalas, or live bait if it's a tough bite. Just the way I grew up doing it here in Cherokee NC. Do what makes you happy, bruh.

I never understood why anyone thinks one technique is so elevated and special or the elitism that is portrayed. I down rig, bait cast, bottom sit, spin fish, fly fish, ice fish, river fish, lake fish and will use any other legal method I can think of to catch fish. From the lowly Chub to top predators is doesn’t matter as long as people are having fun out doors. Go do what ever makes you happy fishing, as long as it’s legal go have fun.
