@@sovietninja6865 The 500GB Series S MSRP is literally $299. The street price is much lower though, which is why the MSRP should have just been dropped.
There is no clickbait about this video. He said nothing about the 1TB SSD being a new addition, he just talked about how much storage is actually in the system. Do y'all even pay attention to the videos or are you just ready to castrate someone without having knowledge of what is actually going on. It's really fucking pathetic.
Carbon is a Grey-ish color... Adding black to it, gives it a smoke grey look while it reflects a blackish look... it's pretty nice... I Love the series x black, however it's a handprint catcher😂
@@rayojordan2838 I just don't understand that. Most companies finally learned that matte black is better than a glossy plastic and yet somehow these things still catch fingerprints from across the room. Have they learned nothing.
They’re in the we need to make money (Nintendo) off the hardware phase. This is the PR way of hiding a price hike. Probably $10 more dollars to slap a 1TB in verse a 500GB, charge $50 more and call it a $50 savings over having to buy an expansion card.
The 2 things that I hated about the S Series was the color and the storage size. So it being matt black and 1Tb is how I think it should have launched from the start
Given that NAND Flash storage costs almost half as much as it did in 2020 it could be argued they should just discontinue the 512GB XSS and only sell the 1TB model for the same price from now on. And Series X should get upgraded to 2TB standard.
I do agree with others that they should have just made this the base Series S model and priced it down to $300. My younger brother is looking to get a next gen machine and at $300 this would be an easier sell, but at $350 that’s close enough to the digital PS5 at $400 that he’d rather save up a bit longer and have that since it has better performance than the Series S. Now if Microsoft made an all digital Series X at $400 the decision would also be much tougher with the PS5
@@dapperfan44 He’s really only interested in a few games and the yearly 2K game, so as much as I would prefer he get the disc console he doesn’t care much about being locked to a digital machine.
@@NoonDragoonIf your brother can save up a bit longer, he might as well save up for a high end PC so he doesn't have to tolerate 30fps Starfield in 2023. Also, more PlayStation games are coming to PC. PC will get him: FREE ONLINE Mod support Better graphics Better frame rate 21:9 or 32:9 support CHEAPER games, etc.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M A bit longer? To get a PC with comparable parts to current gen hardware is nearing a grand when you have to include a high end monitor, keyboard, and mouse as well. A console is $300-$500, there's no way on earth I'm telling my 14 year old brother to buy and build his own gaming PC just to play 2K and a couple single player games a year.
This model really doesn’t make sense given that the white series S is almost ALWAYS on sale for under 250$. You could use the 100$ saved to purchase an expansion card and have more storage than this 350$ system.
@@asphaltannihilator157 it literally doesn't, I'm thinking as a consumer and not whatever you're looking at it as. It's completely overpriced, maybe if it were taking the place of the $300 S that is constantly on sale
Every single teardown I'm amazed at how little space the actual computing parts take up. It's absurd to me how the thermals are by far the most important bottleneck to reducing the size of these consoles.
@@itemblock882The guy concern is pricing learn to read, he wishes for Digital Xbox Series X for about 400 USD why he should buy Disc version of Xbox Series X for 500 USD and told not to use the disc drive?
Maybe it’s still possible they release another iteration of the X. They already said no Pro Model is coming. So i could see them releasing a Series X digital and/or a Series X with a 2TB option. I’d prefer the latter.
@@UchihaDareNialI can read. Just spend the extra $100 and have the option of a disc drive, which has plenty of benefits. Another SKU, for $100 less and only 1 less feature would be just more confusion and complication at retail for Microsoft. But i supposed the guy was wishing so he might as well have wished it was $50
I already own the white Series S from 3 years back, but the carbon black with the extra storage is appealing to me. Will definitely pick it up & gift the white S to a friend still stuck on last gen..
@@sikevillain But you're willing to pay $350 for the same exact console but just in different color?! How does that make any sense? $100 for a SSD is a lot less than $300 for the same exact console. Also, btw you can buy skin wraps online for like $30 if you really want it in black.
Storage is the biggest issue I had with the S. Xbox still needs to fix the price of their expansion cards, but this does make the series S as a gamepass machine a better option then before.
You know the S was more for the casuals who only play new CODs and some shitty ass sports games. If you're bitching about the S having low storage you should've saved up a bit longer and upgrade to the X for 1Tb. Either that or get a Switch for Nintendo exclusives and just get them physically to circumvent the 32GB storage.
I have the white series S and I have the Xbox series. X. I wouldn’t mind buying one of these new ones just because it’s black the fact it has more memory is brilliant
@@masterchief5621why not? Came in handy for me. I had 2 Series S and traded them in for this new one. I wouldn’t mind getting another one when it hits $299 on sale. So small versatile. And I still have my Series X. Now try having multiple PS5’s consoles. Oh no, those are too big and clunky, no thanks.
In the past people have mentioned trying this with generic 2230 m.2 which fit, but the console won't recognize the drives. People have speculated perhaps a series X drive would work? But you would have to remove that from a series X which makes no sense. I suspect the software is extremely strict and only those exact models are recognized. Anyway safe to say a 2TB model would likely not be recognized no matter the model. Kind of a huge shame.
On my regular TV I have my series X and ps5 This is where I play big story games, but in my kids room, I have my series S set up like a gaming PC on a desk with a 1080p 120fps gaming monitor and this is where I play call of duty and multiplayer shooter games. I love it
I think the PS5 Digital Edition is much better value for money wise. An extra $50 for far better performance is a no-brain if you're platform agnostic.
350 is pretty high... 50 more you have a PS5 digital. And 150 more you Have a Series X and PS5 disc with much more GPU power. If it had a disc drive, the 350 would have been pretty good, especially when it comes to second hand game prices.
@@jamestribie3387 50 isn't much of a saving. 150 either. You get system that play both Digital and Physical games. Its 4 vs 12 TF GPU, which is a massive difference for games. And the Series S doesn't always have a performance mode, while the Series X does 95% of the time.
Finding a PS5 digital is often very difficult, Sony hates selling them as they lose way more money on those vs disc version. It exists more to in theory persuade series S buyers to go to Sony, but in reality you never see it anywhere. So basically it exists to save face, and for internet discussions like this one, rather than for actual consumer purchase. You saw it a bit more at launch, these days it's very difficult, they want everyone to buy the $500 version.
@@no-barknoonan1335 Of course the Disc version is the better buy. Why'd you think they're releasing a new PS5 with an attachable disc drive? The digital version is quite easy to find here. But the problem is, nobody buys them.
I bought a series s a month ago. From what I've played so far it's been great. Fortnite, rocket League, MK11, GTAV etc have all looked great and ran perfect. Very pleased with it. And I read Forza will run at 1080p 60fps. That's good enough for me 👍
People should watch Riccardo Breccia's breakdown on how the design of the Xbox Series is intuitive and provides a clean user experience. From the power button, to the form to the controller. (Might need to translate to english, his videos are in Italian)
It’s interesting. In South Africa, where I am, the Series S 1TB is still significantly cheaper than the PS5 digital to the point where it’s not worth having the conversation. Meanwhile, the Series X can be bought for PS5 digital money. And just to further compare, the 512GB Series S is roughly half the price of those two systems. Taking all that into account, I’m definitely getting the 1TB Series S once the holiday discounts kick in
I've been gaming on the Series S as my primary console since launch and I'm glad I didn't listen to all the complaining about the storage, this issue turned out to be a big pile of nothing for me. I just keep 4-5 games stored internally and then transfer games back and forth from a 2TB drive when I need more space, even the biggest 90+GB games only take 10 mins to transfer. Since it's all digital the console is actually hidden away behind my TV, so I don't care about the color either- though the black does look better.
I quite like the Series S conceptually. It's an affordable way to get into current gen gaming. The move to 1TB of base storage was also badly needed. But they should have discontinued the 512GB model and made this one $299. NVME storage has gone down a lot in price. At $350, being only $50 less than the PS5 Digital Edition, while offering less than half the performance, makes it a tough sell.
Less than half the performance? Are you joking dude lmao, that's not even remotely close. It games at 1440p 60fps just fine, the ps5 cannot play a single recent game in 4k 60fps, same with series x. They are not more than double the performance, whatsoever

I got a WD 550 with max speed of 2,400MB/s on clearance. I think I got it before the PS5 released but never installed it because my PC has 2 gen 4 SSD's and only has 2 m.2 slots
I grabbed this system solely and only for Starfield. I feel like a $50 increase for twice the storage is not a bad deal. However I also had a lot of Amazon gift card cash to throw at it so it made it a lot less painful lol. Arrived to my doorstep this morning, I’ll be giving it a go later tonight when I’m finally off work!
I traded in my 2 Series S and a Switch Lite. Pretty much paid for itself. I’m sure it will drop to $299 at some point in a sale, but I couldn’t wait. I love it already

I seriously didn't like my Series X looking bulky in my TV cabinet so i sold it and will be buying this. I had a series S before and i didn't feel much of a difference between the S and X. I'm happy playing on 1080p 60fps
@peterdaskinhead That's bullshit and you know it, Series S doesn't hit 120 fps on newer games as often is what you should have said, Series S has no problem hitting 60fps on new games. I've seen many Digital Foundry clips.
Pretty cool heatsink, but its a console for the poors. I dont mean just because its a cheaper model Its a digital only system its designed to keep you from reselling your games, and attempt to get people buying it into the forever renting model

Man, it looks really good and I'm super happy they increased to 1TB. It's just such a shame that should that SSD fail, you can't replace it and have to buy a new machine (if not under warranty).
Before August I got a used series X for 370$ from GameStop ( trade in ). What I mean with before August is now they cost new 50$ more for the rest of the world . Meaning if you saved up a bit more you could have got a Series X for almost the same price 2 months ago maybe if you're American its still the same . Now you wont get a used Series X below 400$ beyond the US .IMO getting them used is a great deal since they exist not that long on the market . And stores that sell 2nd hand have strict standards mostly .
The series S is a very good deal for gamers that don’t really care about 4K and all the FPS. For people who just simply want to play games and get achievements & knowing the fact, that game pass can be totally free when you use your Microsoft rewards points to pay for the service every month, it’s an unbeatable console, The black is also a very good look. I love the series X myself.
I enjoyed mine while it lasted (1 month free returns) but I am going back to PC instead. They just don't have any games that interest me... besides Starfield. And while SF can be played for long... I'd rather not do that with a controller that's too small for my hands. The KM adapter I bought costed a small fortune, tho it worked very well, I nearly forgot I was using a console. Then Gamepass wore off, and so did my curiosity. I think in the end it's all about the games selection for the platform. I really like the PS selection, but hey, they ARE coming to PC sooner or later too.
You know, I was kinda dissapointed when xbox said they have no plans to do a pro model kinda console to compete with the rumored one from Sony. But now I wonder if theyre doing to set their releases at a different window from sony so it no longer directly competes with sonys? Like maybe in 3 years we'll see xbox put out another console gen entirely thats the best performing console on the market and then sony 3 years after that ect ect?
Yea this is definitely an opportunity for Xbox to hold out on releasing a Pro model and when the next generation hits, they could put out something that’s more powerful than the PS6. Or just offer a cheaper price tag for the same specs. It’s definitely interesting to see what they do.
If you are still waiting on Xbox to deliver 3 years from now, you are delusional… Microsoft is obviously pushing its console players to become Pc gamers or jump ship to Sony… once the ps5 pro comes out Xbox really won’t be able to compete…
I’m not against it but... sony made Ps4 Pros with 2TB. Yes, they were special editions but it was already a thing few years ago. I cannot believe this is NOT at LEAST 2Tb.... come on ms.. you should empty your pockets
Maybe I'm crazy, but if Valve launched a Steam Machine (again) that was basically the same price and performance as the Series S, I would jump on that like crazy.
@@ActNasty5 I've had a Steam Deck and they're nice for what they are. But a Steam Machine with a bit more power would be a great entry point for some point to have a HTPC or something.

@@lpsoldi3r The great thing about Steam is that it's a storefront rather than a single machine, so you could have a Steam Machine and Steam Deck and your games and saves would be shared between the two.
I don't understand why they didn't put 1TB inside the first revision in the first place, I assume the 200GB is system space and some sort of a page file type thing I am thinking about a Series S for backwards compatibility for my older 360 titles, nice t see Cooper piping for the cooler and that nice big fan they clearly didn't want another RRoD situation again
Is the storage married to the board or could it be expanded? Could you but a 2TB M.2 NVMe drive in there if you wanted to? I have a white Series S that I'd LOVE to upgrade the storage on if it's possible.... I assume it isn't since Microsoft decided to go with their own proprietary external storage option for expansion purposes...
You can't upgrade the internal storage. It's removable (unlike PS5) but it's tied to the motherboard. MS even said it's impossible to repair broken SSD on the Series consoles. There's a way to replace it but you'd need to clone your old SSD to the new one.
When this thing gets a holiday bundle with a game or 2, maybe some gamepass, and its advertised at 299... I would be interested in one, especially knowing the emulation capabilities
Yea it will hit $299 in a sale maybe this year or next year. I already got one, really awesome color and the larger storage makes this thing a no brainer.
It's the same price as a Switch OLED, so it's really not that expensive. I think the extra 150 goes a long way toward games and accessories. Personally, I don't need a 4K system and I'm not fond of using discs anymore, so a 1TB next gen system for this price is a steal.
Microsoft and Sony are sampling the Wii U for some reason all of a sudden. Sony made their version of the Wii U with the PlayStation Portal. Microsoft borrowed inspiration from the black 32GB & white 8GB Wii U and made the white and black Xbox Series S, with the big and small storage capacities to match. What freaky Wii U uprising is this?
In English, which console number is the new Xbox? I have the original Xbox, as well as the XBox 360, but when Microsoft went down the deep end with their bizarre naming convention I decided to just not buy one at all and I have not bought one since. They named the Xbox 2 "360" because they didn't want a lower number than "PS3", but then their 3rd console was named "One" (which is what I call the original Xbox) and while waiting for something to come after "One" they released two additional consoles named "One" with letters and now that they are finally dropping the "One" they are keeping the letters which I thought was their way of versioning. It's like the sound of a compact disc skipping and repeating itself because the disc is bad. It conjures images of bad hardware. And it's not like there's any actual reason to buy one since most games are also on Sony consoles and the few that aren't eventually come to PC. I won't buy a console that doesn't use proper versioning. I don't care what they call it as long as they either sufficiently differentiate the consoless to avoid confusion (like what Nintendo usually does) or use numbers (like what Sony does). Also, doesn't microsoft see the problem with naming consoles XBone and Xbox Se X?
This system makes no sense to buy unless you love Halo and Gears, and want to play Starfield. The PS5 digital is $400 and for $50 more you get a system 3X as powerful and can play most if not all the games the Series S can play at higher framerates, and the storage is easily upgradeable with a cheap NVME drive to install. Maybe Microsoft thought they could gouge people more because Starfield is coming out, but the Series S is bad value at $300 or $350.
The S isn't worth it even with a bigger SSD. Now that we have exited cross-gen, the S will really start to get gimped versions of games, or it will ruin/delay more releases like it was going to for BG3. It's a potato, and a big mistake by MS. Sure it's cheap, but you get what you pay for. Now even X owners are paying for the S's existence.
Coming from a series X I was genuinely surprised by just how small the S looks and feels. M$ don't get enough credit for build quality and design this gen. The S and X are near silent under load, the same cannot be said for the PS5 and PS5 Slim (I've had both and returned both).
Have a XSS. I think this is dumb. For $350 I’d just pay $50 for PS5 digital. Honestly they should’ve just made the seagate 500 at $50 and 1tb at $100; then X and S crew would both benefit. Bc 800gb on X would still benefit from that. But nope, we get something no one wanted instead.
Not having a disc drive is just silly while digital games are still sold at full rrp. New game comes out, and the physical edition is often cheaper than the digital version. Physical is almost always dropping in price gradually too. You can get a pre-owned MW2 for about $15 now. If you had to buy the digital version for your series S, it’s still $60!!! If these companies want to encourage gamers to go digital, then they need to start pricing digital games accordingly. It’s costs NOTHING to duplicate a digital file infinitely. No production and distribution costs necessary! But my job as the consumer is to get that game as cheap as possible, and that’s always physical!
I love my Xbox Series X, but they should have made an Xbox Series X without a DVD slot. I only buy digital games and I don't watch Blu-ray movies either. It could probably cost $50 cheaper and one less thing to worry about breaking!
Oof that framerate in Starfield while going through that town. My PC Gamer eyes are bleeding. And before you say anything, I have a Series X in my game room and a Series S in my bedroom. I just wish Bethesda could have made a >30fps graphics mode...Maybe in a future patch.
Man Microsoft took the fan on the cpu from computers which all consoles should do and give us a system we can upgrade just like a computer after all that's really all a gaming console is
Microsoft is losing out to Sony and the PS5. At this point they should have discontinued the S, and lowered the price of the X. Who wants to buy a weaker version of a system that can't play disks? Even the PS5 digital edition makes no sense. Why tie yourself to a digital store just to say $100? When you can make up the difference quickly by buying used games, or looking for sales online through multiple stores.
I'm impressed with the series s. Tired of people blaming the system for programmers inability to make games have the same features as the X. I have both systems, and actually use my S more (because I'm at my desk more) and am fine with either. This black S looks cool, and if I had extra change, I'd grab one. Anyone got a quarter?....
The series s is a v6 engine, the series x is a v8 engine, they both get you where you want to go the other gets you thre faster. The series s is a bottleneck.
@@chasejackson7248 sorry but that’s a terrible comparison. It’s not about how fast they get you. Will it get me to my destination and spending less? Yes. Speed is a preference. It’s not a bottleneck.
Should have waited until 2025 the maker to put Wi-Fi 7 in it if it has Wi-Fi 6E and a 10 gig ethernet port I would definitely buy it I've yet to buy the series X stuck with the 1X considering most games aren't even exclusively on the new console yet once that happens hopefully we'll see something worth upgrading to
1TB isn’t enough storage. Games take up too much storage. Series x should have launched with a bigger storage. You need 10 TB. Maybe even more. 360 was better as games took up less space. They need to shrink the games. Plus there are always updates for games which is really annoying.
Why would anyone buy this when it's just black and not even a full 1TB. SMH. MS you need to just stop with these sales gimmicks, worry about the Series X, make a new design or something. geez.
It costs almost like 5000 sek here in Sweden the black Xbox Series S. Wayy too much. You can get a Series X or a PS5 for that price. Kind of crazy. They really need to do something about the price.
