Standard Secchi disk is a white disk, 30 cm in diameter. Small one with black quarters is used in limnology, not in seas and oceans.

what if the secchi disk that im using does not have a marker or any form of indication....would that mean i have to measure the dept manually??

you can make a knot each meter, put a piece of tape. or just hold the line at that spot and manually measure it on the boat with a tape measure.
