Continuing the series of taking measurements with this look at the 5 core measurements you will need to be able to get to work on a cuirass of some description.
There are others, but these five measurements work well as a series of fixed points on the abdomen to get you started.
I worked out today that I am only 999,992,116 subscribers away from my first billion, so thanks for your continued support. If you'd like to, and are able to, help support things a little more as I save towards a set of LED lights for filming in the workshop. Please consider buying a coffee here:

After the greaves, would you consider showing how to measure gorgets? Or perhaps explain how we best ensure the gorget or breastplate don't push against the customers collarbone (too much)?

Sure thing, it's a bit of a different beat, but I'll add it to the list.

As usual, your videos are to best! I do have a question, if your able to hopefully answer. How does one go about making internal, compression articulations for a arm harness? Have you ever tried? I’ve reached out to the ULofA, they had great answers, but most of the videos are outdated. Wade Allen, of course, added great references, but I’m still playing around with shapes trying to get it right. My card stock mock-up doesn’t transfer. Again, hopefully you have knowledge in this, but if you don’t I hope to inspire a new venture.

I've done a small one, on any compression I tend to start with the middle lowest lame and work out from there one up, one down at a time, that way you can see how you're going as they are made, testing each step with a stout bit of card first and always give yourself about 1/2 an inch extra length on the card just to be certain ... if that helps? Wade is awesome!

Can you explain the front to back and side to side measurement please. I don't quite understand

sure, imagine an ellipse cut into quarters. Label the lines where they bisect the ellipse's circumference 1, 3, 6, 9. Like to numbers on a clock. Line 1 to 6 is one measurement, and 3 to 9 is the other. Which is front to back and side to side is up to you, just make a not of it so you don't confuse them later. :)

Cheers mate, try making one out of card piece by piece over your foot with no shoes on, that will help a lot. Pay attention to where the rivets are, place them almost along the floor edge and it will hold it's shape but may feel a little stiff as your foot expands each step, rivet a bit higher and it may feel a little looser but will expand. I'd make a short one just for the front of the foot first, then try and figure out the hinged area next, but card and split pins are king when working something like this out first of all. Hope that helps.
