ARGOSY needs to be on the road. Speaking from experience, once an engine has been in a fire, it's scrap. A burnt-out engine cost me thousands of dollars. 😢

Tim at the tear down of this engine I was about as sick as you were my friend not one time do I ever remember anyone using a 4 foot pry bar to remove injectors but after learning you was able to salvage some of it lightened my heart a bit brother you and your family been in our prayers and we will continue to keep you in our prayers not only for healing but for success God Bless you brother

I wouldn't use anything from that burnt motor. The problem is when metal gets that hot the structure of the metal changes. Who knows how the heat treatment was affected.

As hot as that motor got I wouldn't use nothing off of it but that's me it's your motor so you do what ever you want

A great introduction with the Cabover

Recommend you to ship camshaft and crankshaft to professionel grinding. If you start polishing you may very easy make the surfaces oval and that is not good, surfaces has to be “flat”. Polishing is only for very light surface corrosion.

I love your new introduction Tim. I sure pray things will work out with that no good insurance company. These companies from Automobile to business is a rip off and one of the reasons I say this is because anytime you have to get a lawyer to understand your policy has to be no good. Problem with using parts from that engine like the bolts and cam, is not knowing how hot they got. The strength of the parts could have been reduced by the heat.

Thanks for the update. I don't know if you're familiar with Brent at Halfass Kustoms (youtube channel), but HIS shop just burnt down. I can't imagine what that's like... but 2 of my favorite channels having to face such a challenge is just too much. You guys remain in my thoughts and prayers every day. I'm really glad you found your enjoyment again, and I can't wait to see your progress by July.

You should do the dimple pistons in this motor as well and I would have the parts you reuse checked to make sure they didn’t get to hot and lose temper

Some parts might have been annealed after the fire. Might be worth having a metallurgist look at it and check the hardness if your looking to reuse.

Tim, you should look into stitch welding the block. Jay Leno did a RU-vid episode on it for one of his engines that was impossible to replace. He did an update and it is still running

tim if you are inclined then clean the block then dye penetrant the cracked areas and maybe you can find someone to lazer weld the cracks up but i have not seen the full block ( cracked areas ) from what i have seen then i would not touch it i have 40 years specialist welding but good luck to you

Bolts and springs will not be reusable because they got too hot. They won’t have the same strength or spring tensions any more.

That whole motor had to have been damn near glowing red-hot that would take a massive amount of heat to be able to get that whole motor to be glowing at the same time that's crazy like anybody that knows something about a torch understands there's no way you could get that whole motor glowing with a torch

Yessiree, that came together about as sweet as it could. I don't miss many of these videos, fellas, I rarely comment, but this one is just so dang pretty I hadta say somethin'. As outstanding as that Peterbilt looks and sounds, and it IS outstanding, I've just gotta recognize the camaraderie within that team of people is the magic. As horrible as having a fire rip through your world is, (I also have 1st hand experience) it also exposes the true "team players" as the good folks step up to make things right. My compliments, folks, on the beautiful results rollin' out the door at the end of the day and also for having assembled an impressive team of people. Tim, I don't know that you can use any of those burned parts of Rooster's engine. That fire was hot enough to change the tempering of the metal.

Tim project I would like to see get done is what you and your family your dad need a new shop where all of you can be out of the weather but I do understand it takes trucks on the road to make the money to pay for that shop
