Guinea Pigs are so much more work to house & care for properly than they look! There definitely needs to be more education out there about proper Guinea Pig care. I had a pair as a kid, but they didn't live a good life as I didn't have the resources to care for them correctly. (And didn't care to find out before I got them!) Now I have gerbils - which are much more appropriate for the space & time I can commit to pets.

We have a Peruvian exhibit at our zoo with bears and there is an open grass enclosure with a Guinea Pig herd and it was all I could do not to climb in and snuggle them. My own piggies I used to have were so precious one of them really enjoyed heavy metal music and they both knew the sound of the fridge opening and would beg.

My one piggy Pluto I've had since February and my other piggy Nova I've had since April; I love the little guys so much! They get so excited when I come home or bring them veggies, and they love pets (being pet, not other pets they haven't met any yet). I had no idea that they were so social and affectionate animals; I thought I was getting two big hamsters basically. I'm very pleasantly surprised that piggies are way more than just big hamsters. Pluto is like a puppy when I've been gone for a while he'll climb the side of his cage and wheek at me to say hello. They're such cuties

Delightful little creatures! I have three of them right now and am about to get a fourth. As a long time guinea pig owner, I'd like to applaud the very educational aspect of this video! Y'all really put in a lot of detail and emphasis on their tiny feet.

I love this channel so much because they have so much passion and devotion to the animals they care for. So many common pets are not given proper care because of lack of information and over simplification of their needs. Animal Wonders is spectacular with their animal husbandry and the information they post for others. I can only imagine how many pets and their people have been helped by your videos. Love you Animal Wonders! :)

Awe, I have a guinea pig named Caramel! She's cream colored though. I'd advise yearly check ups due to teeth overgrowth. (One of the many advantages in working in a multi species animal hospital, mine get free health checks

i spend alot of time a day taking care of them, playing, cleaning, feeding. I hesitate going on trips or even vacation travel LOL. They are alot of work but i love them so much and worry about them alot. If you want guinea pigs, do your research thoroughly

Any tips on holding them while cutting their nails? I have to burrito mine and I sometimes wonder if there’s a better way.

Usually just put their back to your chest. We do have one that requires burritoing, however. It's a valid approach if you're careful.

These are called Cuy (coo-ee) in Ecuador. And they are considered food. It's a delicacy here. But I don't and won't eat them.

What would you do if you had a pair and one of them passed away? We know the one that lived is sorta aggressive with territory and tolerated her cagemate, nothing more. She’s also about 3 years old. Could you introduce another? I worry about her happiness but was unsure if she would even accept another pig.

Check your local humane society. They may take in guinea pigs and be willing to have yours meet and greet with their residents.

Shelters are a go to. You also do get the ocassional odd duck that can live alone. I'd try meet and greats with a few others (there's a specific process for this if you don't know it) and if she's just not playing nice, you might have a special case on your hands. This may mean more work than when you had a pair, however.

That’s great, just make sure your do your research ( you obviously are by watching this video.) In addition, don’t forget to enjoy the new addition to your family! I remember when I got my cockatiels, I was so caught up in research and properly taking care of them I didn’t engage with them as much as I should have and didn’t enjoy them, the important thing there is that I learned from my mistakes. Congratulations!

This may make me sound like an awful person, but I have 3 guinea pigs that I do not want. I recieved them from a friend who had asked me to take care of them. I was under the impression that it was temporary, but no, they would not take them back again, and i couldnt just leave them out or let them die. Does anyone know of a way for me to surrender them or give them to someone more capable of caring for them?

Doesn't make you an awful person. IMO if you have a pet that you can't provide for in the best way for them, whether it's due to time, money, or simply not enjoying caring for them, the most fair and mature thing to do is admit it and rehome them. Too many people neglect animals that they don't want or can't care for, but keep anyway. Maybe start by looking to see if there are any rodent, or even guinea pig specific rescues in your area? Another option is kijiji, craigslist, or whatever the equivalent website is that folks use in your area. If you go that route make sure to ask people interested in taking them in questions to make certain they're going to take good care of them, such as asking for pictures of their setup to make sure it's the right size and everything. Last resort might be surrendering them to a shelter, ideally a no kill one.

I would assume you eat a separate type of domestic guinea pig that's bred for meat production? Like how there are separate pet breeds and meat breeds of rabbits.

@@cooperolm9687 They were domesticated as food by the Incas, I don't know if they have been bred into different breeds but most of them are thought of as food in Peru.

If you (both) would just calm down and stop YELLING - and just be less histrionic and more conversational - I would watch more of your videos. None of this looks "naturally effervescent," as someone suggested. Otherwise, I applaud your commitment to animal welfare.

-_- I think your phone's volume is too loud because no one is yelling here. They have a high pitched voice since they are women, but that's not yelling. You don't know what truly histrionic means, it's a personality disorder. If you want loud noises I present you my family.

Berserker !! It’s the theatrical pounding, not decibels.Histrionic btw is not a personality disorder. That’s a modern usage. Look up the etymology. The word has been adopted by the psychiatric profession, but it’s use and origins go back a long way, before psychiatry was even a thing.
