Thank you for a very informative, educational discussion. Regarding the discussion of fluoroquinolones, I want to point out that while there's no warning specific to aortic dissection or aneurysm, there is a black box warning on tendinitis and tendon rupture which is usually enough to give clincians pause when utilizing them.

I have an aortic dissection but the surgeons say it is far too complicated to operate on due to my complex anatomy and structure

my son had his Aorta repaired. His daughter 6 and son 4 are dragonised with Marfan. So am I right to say that Marfan is inherited through the father?

Marfan is not gender specific. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion -- that means, if one parent has Marfan (either parent), each child has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the Marfan gene. However, in about one quarter to one third of cases, a child has Marfan due to a spontaneous mutation at conception (and then they are the first in the family to have it). When they have offspring, each of their children have a 50-50 chance of inheriting the Marfan gene.

Can an aorta grow from 3.7 cm to 4.2 cm in 5 years and then remain stable?

My ascending aorta was 14.99 cm before they took it out, they had to take that out and repair that and the arch. I'm doing good now thanks to MUSC!

@@Davidh741 Yes Sir, It was 15cm! I lived with it for a year before I had the surgery. My surgeon was one of the best in the country. I'm so glad I had him. They had to take a lot of that scaring out. They did the ascending aorta graft and also the Arch graft. I think it was like 13 hours!
