TAKING DELIVERY of a 1998 Mitsubishi ECLIPSE! 

Please keep up the good work of keeping these 2g eclipses alive!! When my son turned 16, i asked him to pick out a car he wanted so we could work on it and get it ready for him to drive to high school. He found a clean 1998 Eclipse GS so long story short, we bought it, spent a lot of money on upgrading/repairing and a lot of time on it. Time spent together which is worth far more than the car will ever be. We will never sell it....even though we've replaced the door handles twice after the new driver side handle snapped on us after 3 months. He had the only eclipse in high school, and now he is a freshman in college and has the only eclipse there as well. Severely needs a paint job, but that will come some day. Your videos keep our plans for it moving forward.

Those door handles were probably one of the most frustrating things I had to replace on the car so far. As for the camry, there are millions out there if you ever decide to go back to one.

knowing the non turbo eclipses, I've had mine for about 2 years now( its same engine but a 4 speed auto.) They're super reliable. super fun to daily drive and not get into too much trouble. mine just clocked 278k miles about a week ago. all original except the radiator and the hoses. running like a champ.

They used to sell aluminum replacements for the door handles. I'm sure you can still find them!

Best thing I've done door-wise was the aluminum door handles. Not only are they not going to break, but they feel super expensive.

Since your Toyota is so reliable, why not keep that? Would make more sense to me. Just tidy up this Eclipse and sell it off. Maybe even for a profit. And if you want an other daily car other then the Toyota use the cash from the DSM plus trade in for the Toyota or the cash if sold separately for any other car you like. Also 4 door saloon or estate body style cars are the best daily since you can take extra people along plus extra storage on the back seat and accessibility through the doors and trunk space if you're driving alone and/or need to haul stuff/move house or tow stuff even.

If you have the Camry, then build the living hell out of that red 2G! Save some money and leave it FWD, but build it to the ceiling!!!! 600whp in that 2G would absolutely FLY!

Hey heads up- to lean can be a vacuum leak also.. the intake gasket or injector seals are pretty common on them to cause lean codes... just an idea man

You can re use the red frame and swap the black handles to better match the car instead of looking base model with all black. Had to do that on my custom blue gst

So it's GS? I actually like the 420A because they run so good for a daily and super reliable. I just saw yesterday that CI motorsports makes fully built low compression 420A motors for under 2k so it's very inexpensive to build them to handle big power. My engine is 100% stock and runs sooo smooth. I'd keep it as a solid daily. Mind you the headgasket on these cars are a hit or miss due to a shallow headbolt bore on cylinder 4 back corner from Chrysler so you might need to address that by adding a washer to that bolt or shaving off a few mm... All around cool car, keep it

Lmaooo I brought my brothers 2g home from Vegas I’m from pa.. n both door handles were broke n the key broke off in the trunk😂 my brother told me they’re very temperamental cars. He’s gone now but left it to me. So I kinda got inspiration from your vids to fix up

I would have a hard time getting rid of that car, especially if the ac works! Toyotas are pretty reliable but if you kept that eclipse stock (just lower it a bit, tint and fix all the little stuff) I think it wouldn't be too bad as far as reliability goes..

I think you should tint the windows , maybe paint those rims another color . Upgrade the seats maybe . A detachable steering wheel . Lower it frs . That’s all I could think of 🤔

Augh! It hurts to see any vehicle with that kind of mileage clocked. Can't remember exactly what mine was at when bought 8½ years ago but it only just hit 100K last summer and _that_ gave me some "eugh" feeling. It's 75% resto-modded since the previous owner trashed and parted it out without me knowing so one could call it a 'rescue'. At least the head was rebuilt so it ought to be okay. Summer driven only which means... 3 months and ~600 miles a year? A 4G63 would be nice to have. Heck, I'd settle for the 4G64 even if it was another Chrysler engine. Nitrous install this year so it can get away from road ragers and the occasional onramp merge. Shame to see your handles like that. Is it too much to ask anyone with an automobile to not claw at or yank them? It actually takes a bit of effort to break something like those. Even more impressive, my passenger inside lock was (somehow)snapped in half so a quick and cheap eBay purchase was in order. It's so short and stubby so the first thought was 'how' then 'why'.

I would love to see some videos of this 420A platform. There are so few videos, and not many as good quality. I definitely want to see the accessories belt changed video and pully tensioner. As well as to see how you measure the tension on the belts? Do you use a tension measuring tool or what? Again, there are not many good videos on this 420A platform!

I can't remember who was selling em but someone has made bullet handles for the eclipses. I'll let ya know if I do find them
