The plaintiff says she rented a townhouse from the defendant and they did a walk-through when she moved out and all was fine. She claims a month later, her landlady refused to give her security deposit back, so she’s suing her. The defendant claims the plaintiff damaged several appliances and only gave her a week’s notice.

Could it be that “normal wear and tear” can be different based on adults only living in an apartment, versus adults with young children? Note: no excusing the dirt and grime the plaintiff should have cleaned herself. But the carpet, and gunk in the washer..etc. Had she told the landlord when the cabinet shelves broke, that would’ve been maintenance related, as with the heating ducts and the blinds. That may would’ve won her a small judgment, but outside of my position of normal wear and tear, I’m good with the judge’s ruling.

I refused to keep my landlords property like that. I took a trip to Home Depot and bought some wood filler, sandpaper, and paint suppliers. My labdlord was even nice enough to allow me to buy a gallon of paint from his crew that they use on his units. I redid the trims and now they look immaculate. Cant even tell my cats did previous damage to it. When you do damage to someone else's property, you are responsible. Always try to leave it better candition than when you received it.

I believe the landlord actually did do a walk-through and hugged her, but she didn't want to get into a confrontation, thus she documented everything after the woman left. That's totally passive aggressive and the renter was caught off guard when she didn't get her deposit back. I think landlord's should do a walk-through with a check off sheet, and as the renter walks with them, check off issues and verbally discuss it with the renter. But, that can cause an argument/confrontation but, hey, eyes don't lie. If after the renter complained about not getting her money back, and the landlord told her why and showed her pics, she definitely shouldn't have wasted her time going to court. SMH...

Even then, after I moved my furniture and belongings out, I spent an entire day to clean, vacuum, spackle, and paint as much as possible prior to the official end date. Some people's brains have been conditioned to not recognize dirt and damage and I believe this plaintiff is one of those people. In her mind, everything looked fine when she moved out, but the poor landlord was probably clutching her invisible pearls during the walk through.

The plaintiff was the tenant from hell.....she left so much damage in this lady's house?! I'm confused on why she's even suing her??! From the walls, leaks, car dripping oil....WTF!!!

I also have 5 kids. I never expect my security deposit back. And with small kids, you gotta periodically clean the walls. It's a must.

Defendant should have been the plaintiff in this case. Complete deadbeat tenant. Takes zero responsibility. So happy the defendant prevailed.

Plaintiff blames her children for all of the damages to the wall sockets, dirty walls, washer dirty, wall holes and the ripped carpet at the stairs. She takes no responsibility for any of the damagers, only to put to blame onto her child. Very sickening.
