I'm so glad Andy said "forget off leash" in one of his videos. Just made my training so much easier.
@cruithin4773
@cruithin4773 Год назад
Off leash is great if you can’t do it. I have my 15 month old Dobie off leash all the time. She’s our third now and the first one I would trust to walk off leash. But then I’ve spent more time training her than with my other two.
@samali4327
@samali4327 Год назад
@@cruithin4773 I'm not sure if I would trust mine. All the top trainers say don't do it. You just dont know. That one squirrel or rat or cat can send them charging.
@cruithin4773
@cruithin4773 Год назад
@@samali4327 I’ve had mine go after a rabbit as well as a squirrel when she’s on a release. When I gave her the recall she immediately came back. But that was after a lot of training. I went from a leash to two different length long lines and performed 400 recalls before doing one recall off leash. The first time in a park off leash that she ran after a squirrel was nerve racking. But she did recall. My trainer at Beyond the Leash never walked his Malinois on a leash. In our area that’s against the local bylaw. But on the odd occasion when someone has called bylaw and they show up, they’ve always let the issue go as they know how Eric’s dogs are and that he has them under control. Before training there, I would never have thought it possible to walk a Dobie off leash. I just felt from my own experience with my others that their prey drive was too high. But my current Dobie is spot on with her recalls. My only concern with her recalls is me getting my knees taken out with her running straight into her sit position and hitting my legs. It may look good. But it doesn’t feel good. But then that’s her drive. If she ever didn’t respond properly to even a single recall, it would be back on the leash for a minimum of two weeks. But to date I’ve not had to do that.
@samali4327
@samali4327 Год назад
@@cruithin4773 thanks for that. My corso does come back to me when he sees me walk or run in the other direction. The only thing I'm worried about is him approaching the wrong dog and.being attacked. He's just turned 1 two days ago.il keep practicing on the long line.

I usually take mine to the outdoor mall with excellent results, heel on point always. The only issue I've encountered is with people staring her down or making kiss noises, she will sometimes give a quick bark. I would like to see him in a busier environment. Would you use a muzzle if lots of people around just for precaution?

We take our Dobie to the outdoor mall and to shops that allow her in. Being able to do so makes all the time training well worth it. I’m sure we’ve angered more than a few shoppers when they’re ignored by the staff who want to great our Dobie.

I used to have my dutchie carry his frisbee in places that were crowded. He wouldn't give it up for anything and it's pretty hard to bite with it in your mouth lol. I have a mal now. Off leash. Learned something important the other day at the farm store. An elderly woman I knew approached me at the cash register which was busy and people in close quarters. This woman was fragile and using a walker and insistent on talking with me. My mal kept the down I asked for but next time I will just hang back til a register is open and no one is around that is fragile.

She is extremely loving and attached to me but I am afraid to take her out in public. So I noticed a couple of things and wanted to ask. I noticed when you first got out of your van and started walking around. You didn’t let your dog go to the bathroom and he didn’t seem to really wanna lift his leg. Any time during that walk and training session is that something you talk because I believe he’s probably an intact male and my intact male wants to lift his leg all over.
