Thanks for the info Its pretty accurate, But the bus drivers aren't a bit rude they are very rude, they smoke inside the bus with passengers still getting down, they put loud music, they behave normally with locals or Greek people and are very rude toward tourists. Maybe as a guide, you should include this info in your content because It could be really helpful so people don't get surprised when they interact with them. I'm quite confident about what I am saying because last week I took several different buses at different times.
Just returned from Greece and we used the bus in Santorini A LOT! It saved us renting a car which sounded like a pain in the butt regarding parking. We were staying in Kamari and took the bus daily to both Oia and Fira. It wasn’t as chaotic as I expected - somehow the chaos works there lol. Highly recommend travelling by bus in Santorini - lots of buses going around and it’s dirt cheap.
Thank you soo much for your video. Now, after two days of driving bus in Santorini you saved us a LOT of trouble! One thing to note, tough: In our experience the ticket seller will only call out the bus stop if they are in the mood to do so. Even if you told them where you want to get out.. So our way to go was always to check google maps in parallel and proactively stand up, so that they don't forget to let us out ^^
Hi Sebastian, I wanted to thank you for your videos, they have been very informative and useful and well done to you and your team. This one helped me be a lot less stressed whilst taking the buses. I have health issues and your cideos helped a lot. Your videos are well researched. Thanks again and we’d love to go back to Santorini again !!
Great and extremely useful video - as all the rest on the channel. :) The description of central bus station is perfect, if I hadn`t seen this video prior to the journey it would be really confusing on the spot, however this video prepared us well for what to expect and following advice from here really helped. Also within the buses, we were always making sure to clearly express to ticket seller to which station we are going and then when time came and seller would announce the station we would also be prepared to exit the bus in time. Ticket sellers were also always loud and clear enough with announcing the directions when picking up passengers on stops and announcing stops when dropping off. Have to say that taking the buses was quite nice and felt like panoramic tour each time because of the scenery - nd we went to different destinations each day - Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, Pyrgos, Santo winery, Oia... so really reccomend this type of transportation in Santorini considering the prices, buses were generally on time and rides were comfy.
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback Kristina !! Very happy my videos made your stay more relaxed and enjoyable despite our crazy bus system :D
Your tips are amazing, thanks a lot Sebastian!! Im going to Santorini this week and 40 minutes of your videos told me virtually everything I need to know. Great work!
Wow. What a very helpful video. We are planning a stop in Santorini on our upcoming cruise and although we have a tour booked we may end up using the bus. Thank you.
Very helpful indeed! Now I know I need to speak up that I’m getting off a stop once it is announced and not assume it will stop whether someone gets off or not….Thank you so much!
Wow thank you so much, very useful information! Especially how things work within the bus😅 Very good to know! Can't wait to be in Santorini this end of June and experience it all myself!😎
Absolutely loved this. I live and work in Thailand and your description of the chaos with the buses suddenly changing destination or leaving when full really resonates :) It made me smile. I will be in Santorini soon and it is good to know that the 'free and fluid' nature of public transport is so universal :) Forw warned is fore armed, as they say.
I am Thai and while I was watching this vid I told myself, wow ok, my first time in Santorini wont be as hard as I thought because the way they manage busses here is very familiar to our Mini van service in Bangkok, Thailand! 😆
Was in Santorini first week of June. Took one bus from Fira to Oia and that was it. Chaotic, hot, pushy, crowded and uncomfortable is just a few words to describe it. Once and never again. I resorted to expensive taxis because my happiness was worth the cost. Cruise ships are RUINING Santorini. Only place to stay in my opinion, based on the CROWDS is Imerovigli, where it is lovely and uncrowded. Best views on entire island also.
Hi, first of all, your videos are life saver. ❤️ Wanted to know if buses take limited passengers only in case of a rush. For example after sunset in Oia, if there's a huge rush for the bus to Fira, will the bus accommodate everyone? What's the best way to enjoy Sunset in Oia and not miss the bus to get back to hotel.
Yes, buses will accomodate everyone, even if this means that the bus is 120% packed :D And the best way to enjoy a sunset in Oia ..... is not to go to Oia ... If you're following me on instagram, you might ve seen yesterday's story where I show how packed Oia is. It's NOT fun. Try to visit Oia in the morning, not at sunset...
@@GreeceExplained thank you so much for the insight, noted the suggestion. Yes, following your posts in insta. Very helpful. My wife and I are traveling to Greece next week. We are from India. It's just that there's too much hype about sunset views of Oia and we thought we can't miss that.
Very informative! I have binge-watched all your videos today, well, im still on it, and I feel so much more prepared to visit Santorini! Thank you so much! Some info around RU-vid and Insta can be so misleading, so this was much much needed! I have a request: a video about visiting santorini in the off season. Specifically early March. I am planning to go and i have been told by some restaurants that they are still closed, opening in april. So i am worried about what i can do in my 3 day trip in March, how cold / rainy would it be, how cold is the water, the spring waters, etc. are there any soecial holidays, festivals, events? Please help!!!
March is NOT a great month if you wanna DO many things, since the majority of the island (and tours) will still be shut down. BUT if your focus is to visit the villages without any tourists, then yes, anywhere from late November to late March is perfect. Weather in March : 14 degrees, mostly sunny but you should count on some rainy days. Water temperature is at its lowest, around 16 degrees, definitely not the best for swimming.
Hey! Thanks a lot for your videos! Question if you may please share - how bad the serpentine road is when taking bus from Fira to the port? will a person with motion sickness survive? :D Thanks!
Dear Sebastian, Thank you for your great videos! My spouse and I will be visiting Santorini in mid-September for ten days and we plan to use the buses. He will be accompanied by his service dog (trained and certified as such). Will we be able to use the buses with her? Thank you for your assistance!
Oh my gosh! You are a life saver! I was so anxious about taking the bus. Will be travelling to Santorini in the beginning of May. Will that be crowded you think?
Thank you Sebastian for this valid info. We will be visiting Santorini between November 1st - 4th. Just want to know if there are public buses / ferries running during this period. Also, are the restaurants etc are open during this period? Thanks again!!
The majority will still be open yes, but dont be surprised if some restaurants or tours are no longer operating. Buses and ferries will still be running yes !
Sabastian, Great timeing of this Video Arriving Santorini Airport next week Easter Sunday. 1) Will "local bus" be running on Easter? 2) How do I find where the buses depart and the bus schedule at airport?
Hey Mike ! As you exit the airport, the bus stop will be on your left, 100 meters away. Local buses run 7 days a week, including on bank holidays like Easter. Concerning the timetables, you can check out the official website of Santorini s buses. I ve linked it in my other video about buses ;-) Enjoy !!
hey mate if im going from the akrotiri archelogical site to fira, do i buy my ticket for the return trip in fira or can i buy them at the bus stop at the archelogical site?
Hello, do you know if the bus schedules are the same on Sundays as on weekdays? I will stay there for a day and I would need to know because I am arriving on a Sunday. Thanks in advance
Do you advise arriving at Santorini airport at midnight? I did some research and it seems that there will be no buses from the airport at that hour. But some sites say something will run during high season
@@GreeceExplained You have given the information incorrectly. We have just left Perissa for Vlychada. The bus controller said that from Perivolos there is a bus going there
Crazy and inconvenient system. It is strange that in tourist cities such chaos. The bus goes strictly just to Fira from port. You have to yell in the bus😅 Everything is very uncomfortable for a tourist. Madness
Hi, I will be on a cruise in Santorini in May. Is there a boat that takes you directly to Oia from the port? Where do you buy the tickets? Thanks in advance
I went to Santorini in 92. And to truth, I got on a bus .... for 3 minutes then I said "I do" ... I went down and took a rental scooter, perfect ..... .. so to all .....
Hi, I am reaching santorini at 345 am by a ferry from milos. My hotel is in fira city center. Will I get a shuttle bus to fira at 345?? Thanks in advance.
Hi Sebastian. We can only go on a day trip to Santorini. So from the airport we get the bus to Fira. From there, what bus stop or stops can you recommend that we can go to and explore before we head back to the airport? I figure we have 6 hours to do this. I appreciate so much your advice.
Hi Eliza. Take the bus to Fira, do the Fira - Imerovigli walk (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zdWbX0SMdlg.html), have a meal at Naoussa restaurant (Caldera View), and then head back to the airport.
@@GreeceExplained wow Sebastian thank you so much!!! This is definitely enough to give us a taste of Santorini. By the way how is the weather usually like in late October when we go there?
Is there any chance that when waiting for a bus from Fira to Athinios Port, the bus will fill up beyond capacity even if we arrive 15 minutes early? How common of an occurrence is this? Asking because I will be taking a bus from Fira to Athinios Port for a ferry to Folegandros and can't afford to miss it. Also, are there always taxis at the stand in case of a last minute need?
The bus to Athinios Port rarely fills up. And even if it does, they send a second bus down. So I wouldnt worry if I were you. And regarding taxis, no, dont count on them, you'll rarely see any at the taxi station.
Hello, I would like to go to Vlychada Beach. I see that the bus only goes there every 3 hours or so…How does one know which bus will go there? Thank you! Leslie
On the timetables you can see the departure time from Fira to Vlychada. That's the time you have to hop on the PERISSA bus, and it will do an extra stop in Vlychada.
Hi Sebastien! I will be visiting Santorini in October, thanks for your informative videos! I have three questions about buses please: (1) How do I load my luggage if I am boarding the bus from a stop along the route (eg. Pyrgos)? After flagging down the bus, can I just open the storage compartment and load my luggage in while the driver waits, or should I wait for the driver or ticket conductor to come down to help me open/unlock the storage compartment (similarly when getting off the bus with luggage in the compartment)? (2) If I have a (pretty big) foldable stroller, do I have to load it into the storage compartment too, or will the driver allow me to bring it onto the bus if it's not too crowded? (3) You mentioned in another video that half the Fira-Perissa buses do not normally stop at Pyrgos, and the bus schedule (even the one at the Pyrgos stop) may not differentiate these. If I am planning to take the bus from Pyrgos to Perissa (especially after sunset around 7+pm), is there a way to plan in advance which bus to try to catch (eg. would the kiosk at the Fira bus terminal have a tentative schedule for the day), or do I have to wait at the Pyrgos bus stop at roughly all the scheduled timings (eg. 7.20pm, 8.20pm etc) and hope the bus to Perissa stops by? Thanks!
Hey ! 1. As you're flagging down the bus, point at your suitcases, the driver will then open the luggage compartment himself. Do not try to open it yourself. 2. The foldable stroller will probably be required to go in the luggage compartment at all times. 3. The EXPRESS Perissa bus is the one which is not stopping in Pyrgos. The NORMAL Perissa bus does stop. You can find all timetables here : www.ktel-santorini.gr/images/pdfs/ktel.pdf The "E" means "Express". So all the ones without an "E" will stop at Pyrgos ;-)
@@GreeceExplained Thank you very much for your reply, this is such a great help! One more quick question please - Near the Pyrgos bus station/square, where would you suggest I could deposit my luggage for a few hours for a cheap rate, at say a baggage drop facility, hotel or travel agency?
@@ongkahkien8596 There's definitely no baggage drop facility in Pyrgos. But there are a few restaurants / bars just next to the bus stop. I'm sure that if you give them some money they'll agree keeping your suitcases for a few hours ;-)
