In the cupola opening of the roof, there's a little nub on the right hand side. It was supposed to orient the cupola but as we know, Takom put it in the wrong place. The thing is this : you need to cut it off. Because if you leave it there, and if you point the cupola correctly, then it won't allow the right side of the cupola to sit down and touch the roof.
This might be weird, but I noticed takom plastic being extremely prone to nicking and those pesky sprue gate nubs/studs are hard to remove without damaging the area around it. Like the sprue gate nub is harder than the plastic around it. If you try to sand them, they stay elevated/uneven and the area around them starts to develop a pit. Scraping with scalpel does not really work either. You need to like carve them out perfectly and just to some very minor sanding. Especially annoying around sharp edges or perfectly flat surfaces. It's so easy to ruin details. Am I doing something wrong? Never had this issue with other brands. Even lousy (sh)italeri plastic was better to work on. Hell, even old ZVEZDA kits had more forgiving plastic. Also, takom plastic absolutely loves to turn into goop with tamiya extra thin glue. You can use it to your advantage as a makeshift putty/gap filling, but you can also damage/destroy the parts, surface connections and so on. Again, never had such problems with other brands. Another thing about takom plastic. DO NOT cut the part very close to the part itself. Leave a tiny bit of sprue gate nub. If you try to cut it out too close, even the fanciest nippers will rip out an ugly hole in the part or a pit that will need filling. Maybe such soft plastic helps to get better details or something, but at what cost. Most sturdy plastic I've encountered was on that ancient Tamiya Panther A kit. The issue with plasic I described above occured in all my Takom builds. Some details even required repairs. Also, seam lines on Takom models tend to be horrendous.
Looks great! I got this one too, look forward to building it. Does the cupola have the same issue as the Otto Carius kit? I will be extra careful when building it, thanks to you and someone's comment on your other video.
I've been told that the final cupola (with drainage slots) has no problem, but the earlier cupola has the problem. Of course, the Mid kit uses the earlier cupola. In this Late kit you have a choice of either cupola. The builder has chosen the earlier version.
Awesome looking tiger tank in 1/35 scale beautifully designed and detailed, the building process looks to be enjoyable and the fit of this kit looks like a dream.
