It continued for hundreds of years and yes… It was in the land of Hindus. The university was a hub of over 10,000 students swarming in from different parts of the world to garner knowledge and education.

Yeah we are proud of our ancient culture but we should also be proud of the fact that we have come a long way in the last 75 years not just in the terms of literacy rate but also in many other index, though we have to improve a lot ,but the journey of modern India (Bharat) should also be appreciated.
India's illiteracy is mainly due to brahmanism or caste system a structure which prohibits acquiring knowledge to other castes excluding the Brahmins. Lord Buddha was the first person who opened the doors of acquiring knowledge to all castes and especially woman. Even British education the backward communities like OBC, SC, and ST. Later on the Indian constitution promoted education without any distinction of caste, race, gender... But still illiteracy is rampant in India due to caste system, children from backward castes are not admitted into school by Hindu's, women are looked down .....
