Her vocal pitch is spectacular, what a musician! Most people see her playing Beck tunes with Vinnie and are blown away by her "chops" but here you realize the musical mind behind it all. Wow.
Jeff's keyboard maestro Jason Rebello always seems to get overlooked when people praise his band members. He is just as essential to Jeff as Tal and Vinnie. He has won several awards for his jazz performances, both live and his solo recordings.
Some of her early recordings and videos, I found challenging, as her pitch control did not quite match the ambition of her writing. But now, simply OMG, she is nailing a piece that easily could have been written by Joni Mitchell. Great musicianship. Unfortunately it is hard to buy her stuff. The CD comes out of Japan for $30.00 or more so I guess i listen to a lot of You Tube videos which don't appear to help her financially a whole lot.
Newsflash!!!!!! The more I explore this ladies work, the more I like it... Great five string girl...... The quartet adds so much! good choice Tal......... Like all of your videos---Love your hair!!!!!!!
For me, she stands out as one of the best and brightest musicians to come around in a while. Love witnessing her musical evolution so far. Really looking fwd to what's next and will do what I can to support her and musicians like her. Keep real music alive.
There is so very very much that has NOT been done, musically, Dear Mullet - it is just that imagination, originality and inspiration is at a century low in the culture, nowadays.

@@beasheerhan4482 In ancient Egypt only women were allowed to play music: not because sacred but what they didn't want to hear was the sound of a "becoming-woman" or child, animal or otherwise in men. Women have to become-woman too... Tel does great guitar where that is the voice.
This is stunningly beautiful and original music -- lyrics, melody, harmonic structure. There are a lot of hilarious comment-cowboys opining on whether "bass is a lead" and whether she's a singer. Answer: it is, and she is, and better than the randos who fancy themselves as critics.
Very real and more important...very original. My ears tell me it comes from a different place, somewhere only she knows. Very moved to hear this musician. I will definitely tell my generation to listen. Very refreshing to hear a real artist.
A totally different side by Tal: The chord arppeggios on the bass, her vocals (never heard such good vocals from her! it fits perfectly to the song), the chamber music arrangement - very original!
Wow... Bass being played both as lead and harmony instrument, together with a powerful female voice... plus, in some parts of the song, a string section makes its entrance... Well... As a solo guitar player who has been listening intensely to progressive, prog-rock, avant garde and related genres for nearly 55 years, I must say I never listened to something like that... It's TRULY UNIQUE, INNOVATIVE and GREAT !!! One thousand congratulations to the great Tal Wilkenfeld, she's really GREAT !
You DO continue to take me by surprise; fresh and beautiful harmonies and progressions. It’s like breathing fresh air or treating new flavors you’ve never even thought about. Most music is so stale; not yours. Ty for sharing your creations.
Man, not only am I blown away by her incredible voice right now and having already been aware of her amazing talents on the bass. If only Jaco were still alive to see her play...
Amazing! Her musicianship has exceeded her years as a player. I have so much respect for her as a musician and composer. I remember hearing a Leonard Cohen song she performed, Chelsea Hotel, and I think some influence came from him. She has come a long way since Beck and matured into a great songwriter as well. She makes the bass do things I never thought it could do. The song Haunted Love seems to be one of the milestones we all face as humans, sorrow and the blues. I'm conflicted with seeing such a beautiful woman and musician go through the difficult bumps in life, but those things create opportunities for beautiful and expressive blues; she's paying her dues.
Astonishing mastery of the bass… and, as it happens, a beautiful singing voice! And, as if that wasn't enough good fortune… a fantastic ensemble of musicians to support her!
@pete ziriaah No she's not that good. She played with Herbie Hancock, and the world best bassists. But she's not that good. She has been awarded in 2008 as "The Year's Most Exciting New Player" for the "Bass Player" journal. But she's not that good. Probably she was fucking the director too. She didn't fuck YOU!!! And this is the only true thing among all that I wrote above, and this is the reason why you hate her. I am sorry for you.
No, apparently you prefer to tell misogynistic lies and call them an opinion. You're the asshole here (and since that's my opinion, you can't insult me back, right?)
I remember back in 2007 my brother was playing with Los Lobos before Jeff Beck came on and when he came back playing at the Crossroads festival he told me you should have since this young women playing bass great! And sure enough she became an instant star. She truly is wonderful!
A friend just shared this with me. My reaction: Oh, that's beautiful. The lyrics, her voice and presence, the incorporation of strings, the way it swells and ebbs... Thank you. That made me cry and I needed that.
The musical vision in this woman, those beautiful yet haunting chord voicings and those unabashed and heartbreaking lyrics are such a fresh breath of air. Yet I discover my cheeks painted by a river of tears.
She is amazing in her own right as a musician. Been listening to her for quite awhile, especially when she played with Beck. Her solo music is astonishing
Wow, Tal, amazing and so grounded in what Miles Davis explained about the quality of music where has to be so hot its cool. Off the planet vocally and quality of the musicianship is out of this world. just drift away and enjoy.
Breathtakingly beautiful song, including her voice and her bass playing. And to think I thought she was "only" one of the best bass players on the planet.
