Often you'll find the actual hole through which the bolt passes in the base of the gear lever is also badly worn, (and the holes in the main horizontal arm in which the bushes rotate too). JKTOWERS addresses these issues but not mail order.
Mines the same the gear stick is abit sloppy. And moves more whilst in gear. Plus crunches. Beens mine cruches in gear, and sloppy could this be the same problem as yours then mate...
The Talbot Express gear change is more about faith than mechanics! (Result of right to left hand drive alteration) Everything in the selection mechanism can have an impact. If crunching, I would check cable adjustment first. Then look at gear stick bushes, then gearbox selector shoulder followed by gearbox selector mechanism ….. good luck.
