FANTAVISION But they will still sell that game for full price even though they give less value for it. Even when they sold you that game themselves and you trade it back in the same condition. I was able to negotiate full trade-in for that reason. I went to buy Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS new and it said they had it "New". So the guy pulls out a CD sleeve and goes to look for the case on the floor, can't find it. So he was going to try and sell it to me as New in a CD sleeve with no case... How do I know it is unplayed? Funny stuff, Gamestop sells it for more Used. I Bought it for cheaper new on eBay. When it comes to dumpster diving, Gamestop does throw away valuable stuff. They throw away all game cases for DS games. That makes it harder to move most of the games.
The DSi did have a web browser, as well as SD card support. Also, the ds lite and the og ds didn't have picture storage on them, so it was definitely a DSi
3DS consoles and DSi consoles both have a web browser, and there's ways to save images. Seems silly but an early teen, maybe that's the only internet enabled device they have that they can look at discreetly. I did it on the PSP when I was poor as shit and leeching my neighbor's wifi
Actually the first porn I watched was on my PSP in 2006. My PC had parental controls becuase I first got it when I was 10. I did eventually convince my dad to remove the parental controls, because I wanted to get on RU-vid. And yes back then internet explores child blocked RU-vid. RU-vid in 2006 is nowhere near the same as it is now, and parents were terrified of it. I can remember news outlets representing RU-vid as if it was World Star hip hop. I can remember watching fights from my school recorded on flip phones.
Lmao xxx on the DSi. What a classic move. When the DSi market opened up there was a free internet browser app you could download and basically use/search it for anything. Very found memories with that DSi... * closes eyes *
From the later half of the 360 onwards to present day, I always took good care of my stuff, and drove across town to a Gamestop just because their management and employees were so much better. I traded in many flawless games, and they still tacked on a resurfacing fee. I didn't notice it the first couple of times, cause I didn't go often (didn't trade too many games in either, it was usually 2 or 3 old ones for a new one), but one day I did, and I made a stink about it. The manager was on duty, obviously knew me, and was like "hmmm, this shouldn't be happening, your discs are clean", so.. he couldn't override it, but gave me a credit anyway, plus a little extra for the fuckups in the past. Bad system, good management. One of the few times a Gamestop did me right.
I remember one time trying to trade in a game at a store over here in the UK, I had only played the game once after buying it new and like you I always take extreme care of my games. The guy behind the counter said he couldn't take it because it had a scratch on it, I asked him to show me it and he couldn't find it (and trust me he was trying pretty hard) Luckily the manager I know was working and she took over, she said the guy had gotten in trouble for not checking discs and they had lost a load of money on the ones he had accepted so now he was going to the other extreme, he didn't work there for very long :D
My favorite GameStop trade-in story is when I was trading in an old console and a dozen or so games to buy a New 3DS a few years back. I told the employee my membership number, then he tested the console, checked out the games, etc and rang everything up, then asked for my ID. That wouldn't have been a problem, except I was clearly under 18, and he hadn't mentioned the ID at all until that point. My mom was at another store and there were a few people waiting behind me, so I had to step out of line and browse the store while I waited for her. The guy was really crappy with me when he finally checked me out with my mom. I was really dissappointed with the interaction, especially since I loved most of that GameStop's employees. Luckily for the local GameStop, he now works at a nearby Target. I mostly go to a local game store now anyways, or order from Amazon, eBay, or LukieGames.
Larry Walker I know tell me about it. Watched few and they peaked my intrest. So I check a few gamestops around where I lived a few weeks in a row, and found nothing but old posters and empty shipping boxes.
BattleMan3 I worked at an extremely high volume one a 10 min train ride from Manhattan . we dont trash anything of any value . the strategy guides get destroyed with box cutters. discs get cracked and if they have to be that bad we either dont even take em and someone just goes you can keep em im not takin em home . on the rare case its a system its a legit useless system. no wires no controllers looks like shit and again, they arent luggin it back home. theres nothin of any value in those dumpsters . shits are stupid and fake and its a lil annoying .
KRATOSLIVES22 ! its still a few of em out there which is pathetic but its annoying and cringey like those RU-vid " pranks " and " social experiments " and we know it but its obvious they want kids to watch and believe it and i think thats pretty low esp cuz a kid may try that themselves and get hurt or sick thinkin theyll find a ps vita or some shit .
Yo Fanta, I was at Gamestop today in upstate New York and I bought a used copy of call of duty ww2 and they asked if I wanted to buy the disc protection. Of course I said no because I take excellent care of my games but for shits and giggles I said my friend told me not to buy it because it's a waste of money. His response was 'paraphrasing here' oh is that so is he a Gamestop professional trained salesperson? I responded well as a matter of fact he is. He than stated I would like to have his name please and I said sure his name is Fanta! His response was "Oh that guy" and I said yes. He than continued to say 'well there is a reason why he doesn't work for Gamestop anymore'. And I said yes because he graduated from college and is now working in a career oriented field. Gamestop was a stepping stone for Fanta. His final response was "whatever". I wasn't implying that there was anything wrong with working at Gamestop but he was insinuating you were fired. Lol. Like he would know from the other side of the country. Anyways love the videos!!
Been watching you for a couple of weeks, I like the "rawness" of your videos, it's almost like a conversation. You've earned my sub. Channels like this that are under 100k subs are always in their golden infant age, keep it up :)
That stupid rule were you can't return new games if the sticker seal is taken off sucks. I remember buying "no man's sky" then tried to return it because that game sucked ass but I couldn't return it because i removed the sticker to play the game, like how else am I supposed to play the game if I can't remove the sticker? So i had to trade it in and couldn't get a full refund.
Well the rule is because people like the value of the game being wrapped people won't buy a new game if it's unwrapped, then it's counted as preowned because it's used
I am sorry, but your comment about shrink was wrong. I was a keyholder at Happy Valley and if you called Nintendo they could give you a master unlock code. HAHA! The porn story... you worked near me for sure. I remember that happening from yearssss ago. it was a 3DS and they were trying for 3D porn. Your thing about pawn slips... all consoles and iDevices with serial numbers needed to have a pawn slip EXCEPT Nintendo products. Also, the thumb print was only a requirement in some cities (Glendale I believe). Some places even require pawn holds on games... those stores must suckkkk. To undo a trade there were a couple options... you could either void the transaction in the transaction log or you could sell the games back at the trade price by performing a price override (I think it was F7 at the time). There were a few times I had to do this. The GameStop cell thing was called Net10. There's your blast from the past. Here's one hell of a story: my manager at the time was named Sean K. When the Xbox One and PS4 were released my manager ordered me and the other keyholder I worked with (we didn't have an ASM and my SM was stealing time from the company, never working his required 44 hours, and eventually got fired because it turns out he was going to the movies across the street instead of working and modifying his time card... shocker) to sell THROUGH the preorders of the PS4s we had because "we would get more in". Turns out we sold like 16 to people who didn't have them preordered and boy were these people pissed. Sean didn't show up for like a week. One guy had like $900 in preordered and paid off stuff and didn't get his console. I felt horrible. Well he storms out and calls corporate who calls my store. They ask why we were short 16 consoles and I tell them "you can ask the manager, good luck getting ahold of him, we never can". I am then told to give this guy his money back IN CASH which thank god we had in the registers. So this guy comes in bitching some more and I give him his money and he asks to speak to the manager. I tell him that I am the manager at the time and he said "no, the tall blonde dude". So I proceeded to do something I should not have... I gave the customer my managers cell phone number. I was so fucking pissed at this point from the shit he put me and the other keyholder through for those couple days that I basically just said "fuck it" and didn't care.
Why was there Porn on a DS? Why did it happen all at the same time? Easy A bunch of neckbeards traded in their DSIs and NEET-bucks for a brand new 3DS all at the same time.
Lots of clothing retail stores do allow you to change the price for an item. I thought the same way as you did. Like how am i going to be able to give it to you for cheaper. Then i worked at other places and they would rather you take off $5-10. Then loosing a whole sale. So thats probably why people think other places do it.
The DSi did have a web browser but believe me there wasn’t any way to save porn onto it besides bookmarking the page and even then you couldn’t watch videos on it
No, I have friends who did it And I have seen loads of shit thrown out And we (when I worked there) would wait till stuff was thrown out and then when leaving we go take it
I traded in a Switch Lite a few months ago and they have it where you can not reset your system before going in. They need to look for any security measures that stop you from resetting it like passcodes, parental controls, all that. That applies for all consoles too, it’s not just the Xbox One as while yes, ever since 2013 all the Xbox consoles now take forever to get up and running with the mandatory internet and Microsoft account logins, every console GameStop has to check before giving you the consent to completely wipe it.
I worked at Sears years ago and a couple times old people tried to haggle because they used to do that during olden times. And they think it will make a difference to offer to pay in cash.
the one thing you brought that would be interesting to hear is gamestop dumpster diving from the gamestop employee's point of view. Personally I watch The Speedy Diver about gamestop dumpster diving but somethings always make me think, like him finding a working ps3 in the trash or a working xbox 360 in the trash. Hope you see my comment.
To be fair on the website it says to wipe the system because my friend was trading in her wiiu and she did research on what she should do before trading it in. Then of course we went in and the worker said she shouldn't have wiped it
Yeah that’s why when I trading in my 360 and DS’es I came in as soon as GameStop opened and there was not customers in the store, so the guy working could have time to do a trade in.
GameStop has good trade in deals you just have to wait for the right promotion. People complain about the trade in process but it is a bussiness and they need to make money off the game for the company to stay afloat. If you want sell your games off eBay and pay the shipping and 10% fee or sell off Craigslist and risk being robbed. A cooperation will never give you a fair price. Look for them 50% or more extra trade in promos and you’ll get your deal.
From being bought out, not due to bad business. It was also widespread yet offered great values unlike game stop. Proving that you can make money abd still give good trade in values
Patrick Mcdaniel Also the trade values are not that bad most of the time you get half your money back if your smart about the promos like I stated earlier
I had a employee at GameStop this past week ask me if I had any old phones I wanted to trade in that they take them. He tried to sell me the PowerUp Rewards as well but he didn't give me the hard sell. He's seen me in the before though and he knows I'm not gonna get it. ;)
All of the crap about needing to record all the details of a purchase may have been annoying to you as an employee but being able to tell the police who sold you a console or phone or whatever that later turned out to be stolen is definitely a good thing.
8:44 *It's not stupid, that law helped me get back a few hundred of my Xbox 360 games that were stolen from me and sold to gamestop.* *The morons ruined my whole collection though with those disgusting stickers...* *Also, what morons think a random thug is going to sell hundreds of games to them at once, for little money?*
A couple years after GBA stuff was removed from GameStop, someone had attempted to trade in Fire Emblem Sacred Stones & Tactics Ogre. The shop declined the trade and dude asked to throw the games away. Good thing my pocket was trash can shaped that day...
I work for a repair center and Apple is the god damn worst we have a dusty bin for Apple phones because Find My Iphone was still on and you can't repair them without it off. Our system has so many "please tell the customer to log into their Apple account and turn off FMI" and some products had just a massive page of please tell the customer, okay done, it's still on, okay they turned it off, it's still on.
With collectables theres SOME people that pre order the rare statues etc and sometime kids buy the toys but honestly unless u have a hardcore collector or a gamer who brings there kids in for pokemon cards or if they bring a random toy up the only toys they should sell are pops, pokemon cards, and maybe some popular statues
For anyone that doesn't know where is a site or two out there that let you defeat the parental controls on 3DS or Wii U without contacting Nintendo. I'm pretty sure now that the generator exists that GameStop doesn't have to care anymore about those being locked.
The rare times I have traded in to Gamestop (its rare , cause the trade ins suck for the most part beyond those sales where they give more) I won't haggle much at all. I very rarely will do any type of , hey how about an extra 50 cents credit etc on a game. The smaller thrift stores are easier to do this with and will actually work with customers on trade ins.
I remember finding it strange that game stop does not take PC games in like who wouldn't want to play games like Frogger he's back, frogger 2 Swampy's Revenge, the Temple of Elemental Evil, DOOM, diablo, DOOM 2, wolfinstine 3d, Tomb raider, sim city, ect
Most game consoles have a hidden way to bypass the parental control codes and factory reset the system just for the reason you described. It depends on the manufacture some manufactures you have to call their customer support line and provide proof that you’re not the kid trying to bypass the controls other consuls like the Xbox 360 it is a hidden button combination In the settings menu that is based off of part of the Console serial number and a chart that you can find online
One time years ago when I worked at GameStop I took over 40 minutes with a customer trading in their PS2, GameCube & like 40 games. They were hoping to have enough money to purchase a new $400 PS3. They only got $120. They didn’t inform me they didn’t have any extra money, Smh
No_Need_For_Social_Interaction actually yes. Always fishing for old marketing and standees. Marketing I never understood but standees for like NBA and Madden, sure why not.
Not that I am defending the customer with the trade ins, but there should be a grace period where the customer has the option to cancel the trade-in transaction, should they change their mind.
That would be a horrible hassle real quick. I guarantee someone would trade in stuff, buy digital items, and then complain that they want their games back. Gotta be an adult to trade in games so you gotta act like one too lol
It's a surprise, but youd be amazed how many places actually will negotiate on prices with you if you actually ask, at least when it comes to big ticket items. My best friend is Hispanic, and in Mexico haggling over prices is totally common no matter where you are. I've been with him many times over the past fifteen years and seen him get amazing deals by talking to managers. They have quite a bit of leeway over prices in most places. When I bought a Sony 4k TV last year, he got me $600 off, which was awesome for a TV that was selling for 3,500 dollars. I saved 300 by getting the brand new display model, which had been calibrated professionally (which costs several hundred dollars). And they gave me a 300 dollar gift card, just because he talked it over with the manager...I thought it was crazy but it makes sense. It gives you an incentive to buy other big ticket items there in the future, and anyone that uses gift cards knows it's really hard to not go overboard when using them. I would always wind up with like 15, 20 dollars left after a couple trips, but then a few things would come out and I'd be like, welllll okay I have some left so that's a little off, and end up spending a hundred or more. The manager at the best buy we go to is always happy to give us discounts on big purchases, he knows we're gonna be back lol
I go dumpster diving, definitely find some cool posters, games that are selling for less than $10, some dirty controllers, ps2 games, empty cases, I have found like 50+ ds and 3ds cases, Zelda, Mario, Pokémon etc. I live in Michigan so I can only go during the summer months.
Depending on the state you also have to have a valid state or drivers lisence. Also they added taking a picture of the items to get rid of taking a note of the games. Two week thing is depending on the city or gamestop distric. Systems need to have a SN number and have to be wiped clean. Phones can only be taken by an SGA or higher, and tested by the computer. Controllers NEED to be tested. If it fails then its defective. If it looks beaten up its defective. Systems need all of the wires that came with it. No if ands or buts. You have to be 18 or over. At least for New York State. If they have a deal going on they will match the cash for trade in. In other words on some days cash is tge same as trade. So 50 trade 50 cash instead of a 50 trade 44 cash. For some stores for 1 hour after the store opens and 1 hour before the store closes no trades can be accepted. For the open part, its because of how much is in the register. For the closing part, its because of the closing process. Also A TRADE IS NOT A RETURN!!! Why do you think you are getting 60 dollar for a 5 year old game?
Lol whats just as bad as the "return" on a traded item is someone signing for the pro card and after they do it they are like "uh i didnt know id be spending money for the membership i want my money back"
I upgraded from a I Phone 6s Plus to a X. I took my 6s to Gamestop traded it in and bought a Switch, a game, and preordered several games and paid them off.
One scary thing I noticed at EB games was a handful of times I would have been in there, and there would be a kid trying to get an M-rated video game and the person at the counter saying "yeah its got violent sexual themes drug use you know..all the good stuff" is that like a marketing strategy?! If so I will tell you that is....SICK!
Hey Fanta! I was at the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday. In one of the glass cases they had a collection of older baseball video games. Guess what was on the spine of one of them? One of those Game Stop stickers! I took a photo, but I'm to old to figure out how to upload it here.
The reason you have to connect an iPod touch, iPad or iPhone to Wi-Fi in order to erase it is because of iCloud and activation lock. It needs to be able to tell Apple‘s servers that activation lock is disabled
I have had a GameStop employee sell me a used ps3 with sticker junk and no HDMI cord. Being young at the time I had no idea. I wanted a PS Vita so I took everything to trade in (wasn't very long after I bought it) I went to trade it in and had to by a HDMI cord and had to clean the console myself.
You're wrong about the not being able to return the games. That's the very reason why trade holds were put into place, to comply with local pawn laws... 😐
I’d like a video about all of the dumbest/most ridiculous questions customers have ever asked you, across every retail job you’ve had. The real all-stars of so-stupid-it-physically-hurts. :D
Let me ask you this question when the stores were getting rid of PS2 games at the time and the games that did not sell from your knowledge what did Game Stop do to those games?
Things that pissed me off that gamestop employees would say when I would trade something in "we can't take it because it does not have an official controller but you can by one from us for blank dollars" (why would I give you a Wii mote when I need it for my Wii u I just bought) "sorry you have a blank gigabyte hard drive in your xbox and it's not a size that came with the xbox so we can't take it" (for example I put a 20 gb hard drive in a slim and ms never sold a slim with 20 gb) "sorry you need the charger or you can't trade it in" (like no shit I dont havw tge charger have you read the packaging for the newer model it says no charger included so I have to keep the one from the older model)
Pawn shops would be the only ones that really barter, though there is a range of prices they will pay usually, less then it's value but they do sell at value or 30% mark up. This changes depending on your history with a pawn shop, a new customer who wants 200 bucks for something only 70 buck value, no, no fucking way. If you are a returning customer or they know you aren't somebody who will default on them and pay off your loan, they might offer you more then it's value. Though only a fool takes the most the pawn shop offers if they're giving you more then it's value, cause many pawn shops add a larger fee ontop of the loan and if your a good customer then safer bet for them to offer more cause of the history of paying back loans. That's the only business I think really does any form of bartering.
Bring up dumpster diving at game stop. My brother is a manger at game stop. He said the same thing there is nothing in the garabage. That they have to send everything to corp.
For some reason every far cry game I get has a damaged case, when I got far cry 5 I preordered it and the case was destroyed inside the plastic, now I know why
I remember my first time bringing games to GameStop. I was like 10 and my mom took me to trade. I had a paper grocery bag full of games... they offered us $11 and some change. My mom sold the games on eBay for me instead and we got about $50 instead
the trade in pawn is for in the event of robbery or theft. if someone broke into a house and 20 games and then went to a gamestop and sold the games for cash. phones are popular to steal and turn around and sell. also Walmart has been known to haggle on items that dont sell on rare occasions.
GameStop is more like a nationwide pawn shop/second hand store than it is like a "Target". The reason people go in there assuming they can haggle is, in most second hand stores, this is commonplace. I don't think it's fair to scrutinize your clientelle because they assume it's like other second hand stores. In case you're wondering, I am in fact, not a haggler either -- it just stuck out as a point of view you missed. That being said, you also spoke to issues with a process where things would need to be bundled after a certain price was met? That has a lot to do with personal item recovery protections. A lot of second hand stores/pawn shops deal in the buisness of buying somebodies stolen goods. It's only fair to give people a chance to ring up the shops that would have bought these goods, identify what's been stolen from them and go through the process of getting the thing that was stolen from them back. If you had something you owned stolen from you, I'm sure you'd like the opprotunity to make sure some store closeby hasn't bought it -- giving you the opprotunity to get the exact thing you had stolen from you, back. Not trying to bust your balls, those two points just stuck out to me.
Video on modded consoles taken in for trade? And/or video on different game versions traded in or bought, for example: a 360 "platinum hits" case where extra dlc should be on the disc, but the disc is actually the normal version being traded in. Or when someone buys, say, Mortal Kombat XL, but they come back because they were given the normal "x" version. How should/do employees handle that?
I had a broken PS4 pro that never ran apps or games it completely crashed but for some weird ass reason it ran metal slug anthology so I went with my account logged in with just the one game and they took it lol. I of course had another pro at home so I grabbed a switch. Good stuff GameStop helped me out a lot
The DS locks you could message Nintendo Customer support and have them unlocked sometimes for free or a fee from $2 - $10 depending on the device. On the porn found on DSi, I have seen quite a few at my work and out swap meet hunting years back in 2012 or so.
An aside on your point about throwing things out, our store would have things penny-ed things out and have to throw it away, and one shift, there was an mass penny-out of strategy guides and we had to rip the front and back covers off the guides before disposing of them. Thanks to a cool manager, I was able to get my hands on a guide that "he swore" he destroyed. Nabbed a nice Pokemon Pokedex guide out of it! Curious how your stores handled penny-out merch that was supposed to be destroyed.
I live in Topeka ks and they buy them but they do not sell them but I want you to cover new release marketing and what you do if you don’t like a game and they are asking about it
I just picked up mario aces tennis at best for $41. The game was listed as open box for $54.99 but they didnt have any open boxed games so they gave me a new one. I had a $5 dollar credit and gamers club unlocked as well.
