Forget rides. Forget theming. It's all about the mall, baby! This month we're talking about Downtown Disney, the surrounding mall outside of Disneyland's gates. Let us share our stories of this sandwich-heavy shopping destination...
The anxiety you get from the ear thing is horrendous. Once I got an earplug (for tinnitus) stuck deep down into my ear and being able to feel it in there while panicking.. ugh!
The company that invented/started/whatevered the Rainforest Cafe, Schussler Creative is from Minnesota and on one of their buildings is a Mickey Mouse sign - when I was little I thought it was a Disney store.
One of my favorite moments was walking back from Trader Sam's back to the Anaheim Marriott during Gamedays, with a bunch of new friends we made earlier that day. This was the Saturday night before the big Sunday park day. We were all a bit tipsy and kept singing the beginning to "Woody's Roundup" for some dumb reason and it was the funniest thing ever at the time to my drunk ass. I can't hear the opening notes of that song without laughing now.
Tree of Life has an abstract/ambient quality to it that made it interesting but often those moments felt too long. The beginning and end of time parts were borderline stock footage compilations that bored me to death
Would really love to see you cover the canoes/train/monorail/trams and disneys history of functional transportation within the parks. Disney world might be a better place for that though given the logistics of the resort. Always great to hear your takes in these.
Thank you Rocco, probably the best review of Tree of Life. I only saw it because it was nominated for best picture. Hated it so much after watching, but think about it from time to time.
I think the DL Rainforest Cafe closed in 2018 when they were going to build that fourth resort right there. It was supposed to be demolished but the whole project fell through. More modern Disney mismanagement.
I actually hung out at the brewery a few times when I was there in 2019. It's a good spot to sit and unwind, and as a craft beer enthusiast there were some things I wouldn't get on the east coast, but it's ultimately a franchise and strongly has that feeling to it. So it serves a purpose solidly but you're not missing out by not going.
Oh, another anecdote. I concur that Rainforest Cafe is pretty bad... I liked it as a kid but was roped into going at Animal Kingdom in 2018 and found it nearly inedible. However, last February I was there for my nephew's first birthday and got a special they had that was shockingly good. I think a number of us were pleasantly surprised, in fact. Not someplace I care to go back to again but figured I'd give my $.02.
I didn't even realize the theatre was gone, granted it's been a few years since I've been. I remember seeing Battle of Gods there an a nearly empty theatre, which was pretty nice compared to other anime movies I've seen in packed theatres.
i’ve been thru downtown disney (orlando) twice. last time was back in march, very nice no doubt however i like the universal citywalk a bit more, but i’ve oddly never had the time to rly explore that compared to downtown disney. got a fire tekken shirt from disney’s uniqlo store which was rly cool tho
Earl of Sandwich praise 🤢 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 notice how Jersey Jonny is completely silent that entire convo while Rocco & Kevin gush over crap sandwiches. Jonny's leg is shaking like he is holding back being triggered about awful sandwich takes.
