Thank you. This is actually very important for me, as a Finnish person and Lord of the rings fan to hear someone say. Just to recognize the fact that our mythology and language, even the characters of Kalevala have been very big inspiration for Tolkien.
I'm American Finnish and was obsessed with Lord of the Rings as a kid.. I've probably read the books 10 times.. when I was a kid I wanted to learn the language of the elves I didn't realize Tolkien was so influenced by Finnish until recently... one of the best songs ever is Misty Mountain Hop by Led Zeppelin
Great video, As a Native speaker of Finnish, i find it fascinating that Tolkien finds my language beatiful and interesting 😆for most of our History our language has been treated as barbaric by the Swedish.
@@langskeppet9887 In Ahvenanmaa (Åland) a Finnish chief of police was fired because he was heard speaking Finnish with his fellow colleague from the mainland over phone... PS. this happened like 5-8 years ago.
In Kalevala there are several things, which have been borrowed from the older stories, especially from the ancient Greeks. But the borrowing has happened several hundred years before Lönnrot collected these poems.
@@docsfinestlive9291 Not in this case. The tale of Oedipus was recorded before AD. We do not know how similar or different was the story of Kullervo back in the 5th century BC
