Just remind them that jazz, swing, rock, metal, and punk ALL caught the same flack, in their salad days. Now, they've been placed, indelibly, in the halls of legend and championed in Americana as the "innovative" and "timeless".
IT is overrated. vinnie paz is overrated too. you need to have them check out Apathy, tonedef alyssa marie, j-live, packfm.....that's some shit that can be appreciated.
not too many.. i swear if you do and try to interact with him and you disagree in the slightest bit then he will lable you as a nazi. no context..he has no idea who you are but he will call you some fucking idiotic shit just so that echo chamber will react.
Naah the beat is Hip hop Talib is on some poetry shit RAP stands for rhythm & Poetry !!! The song starts off Wit him rapping then on the 2nd verse he falls off flow and starts doing more spoken word poetry lol It’s kool but ehhh talib be losing me wit all that poetry wale shit.
I say his phrase to myself, every morning: "This morning, I woke up Feeling brand new and I jumped up Feeling my highs, and my lows In my soul, and my goals" thx kweli
23 days sober and I’m DONE ! NO MORE ! 😤😩💕 This song hits me hard asf cause I was just getting by 😭 I’m so ashamed . Enough is ENOUGH ! I’m FIRED UP TO DEFEAT IT ! 😡💕.

@@iquit1044 I think this song talks about people having struggles and their dependence on selling crack, smoking, drinking just to survive, but actually what they need is love.
Trina , my dear lady I am so sorry that you lost your son recently ... every mom's worst nightmare . If I could bring your baby back to you I would . I hope you will start to remember a few other songs that maybe he turned you on to . May he rest easy and I feel that he had wanted to take you on a cruise trip and he was really planning it he really wanted to make it happen
pleading with the Blood of Jesus being our portion that we thrive and feel more alive in righteousness prosperity and awesomeness Amen hallelujah 🙏🏾👑❤️🌏☮️🕊💯🤟🏿
I used to skateboard to this song in around 2003. I would have this blasting in my 16 mb mp3 player so loud I couldn't hear my wheels rolling. Still banging it. Talib is a champ.
he's not underrated, he's very well rated and recognized. one of the best underground rappers who took it mainstream. his niche is very different though. his lyrics adress a different set of listeners with different taste in music and a different mentality.
I understand what you mean, he's underrated in that he should be regarded as a top 3 MC of all-time, for me it's him and Mos Def ( I look at them as a package), GangStarr and Eyedea
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense But I did 5 mill' - I ain't been rhyming like Common since Hov, soo define underrated my man ?
I used to work full time in NYC and had an almost 2 hr train ride into the city every day and would make SURE I listened to this song at least once on my way to the office every morning. The beat, the melody, Kweli's message, just tugged on me hard man. This song is a true diamond in hip hop.
@@jaycee598 I feel that they collaborate so well, and both have expressed their respect of each other's styles and differences; I think it would be tragic to debate between the two. I appreciate both of the guys approach and delivery to hip hop. They are my favorite artists and in my opinion they are the pinnacle hop true hip hop.
Next Level bars, "we commute to computers, spirit stay mute, while your ego spreads rumors, we're survivalist turned to consumers". This is a lyricist.
Real rap. Real message, real people. As a white guy I really believe artist like this are pushed to the bottom by the industry to keep black Americans down by pushing the negative garbage that everyone listens to now. Talib has been one of my fav rappers for years because I feel like the man speaks from the heart.
It was dope how Dave Chappelle had Kweli on his show performing this song. These are the type of hip hop joints we need a song that makes sense. And not anymore mumble songs. And Kanye need to go back to this type of production bc the young Kanye was sick with it and held me down during my youth along with pete rock. And P.S. I pray for the people who are trying to get by during this 2020 pandemic.
This is what hip hop and rap should really be about...sick beats, insane flow and rhythm, while at the same time, tackling important issues to improve the society...
@bryanpinto4051 hey man I was like 13 having a rough time and heard a positive song and I'd never heard Talib before. Conscious hip hop was a pathway to wisdom. Chill out.
It's funny that someone got defensive over you're comment. There was a time when he was just getting by! He talked about that in his first few albums. He had humble beginnings, so what! And your response was funny. You can never get away with an angry response AND misspelled words. Not a good combo.
Tears in my eyes. This is the music I was raised on. Plus Heavy D, and Queen Latifah. So inspirational. Music is so out of balance now. Just found out about his podcast. Definitely a man of wisdom.
2:36 Thats dope, didn't catch that when the video 1st dropped but the reflection in that mirror is Kweli"s oldest Son and his daughter, Diani, whom also spits like her Father. BeautifuL. KweLi gets my respect for Life for understanding the importance of the energy he projects into the world with his Art. His self-knowledge is manifest in everything he does.
When I'm low and out of focus I always come back to this. It's become a mantra - This morning, I woke up Feeling brand new, I jumped up Feeling my highs and my lows In my soul and my goals Just to stop smokin', and stop drinkin' And I've been thinkin, I've got my reasons Just to get by Song is a gift from God.
