"The music business hate me 'cause the industry ain't make me Hustlers and boosters embrace me and the music I be making I dumb down for my audience and double my dollars They criticize me for it yet they all yell "Holla" If skills sold truth be told I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli Truthfully I want to rhyme like Common Sense (But I did five Mil) I ain't been rhyming like Common since"- Hov
He's right reasonable doubt was a album that came out when I was young so a lot of stuff went over my head. I loved reasonable doubt lyrics and beats and even tho I was young I was in the streets as far as seeing people die and relating to wanting vengeance plus I was around hustlers who absolutely loved the album ... but thats what makes this album so special id hear something new lyrically for years after listening to it the first time . I'd probably say this is my #1 album
When I first heard J say that bar in the BLack album that made me look at Talib Differently cuz here is my favorite Rapper basically praising a rapper that’s overlooked and underrated and giving him the same type of respect and credit for being lyrically inclined as him.... So I went to listen to Talib more and I felt ashamed because there I was a lover a hip hop and I’ve completely slept on someone who is the epitome of Hip Hop.. Most rappers can’t hang with him...
Funny thing is, in Angola, Africa, the hiphop lovers was giving Talib, Common, Black Thought, Mos Def, mad love before Jay mention Talib e Common. They never been underrated over here. Of course we understand not every dope rapper was born to be famous or great, but still we ALWAYS followed their projects and praised them .
If skills sold truth be told I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli Truthfully I want to rhyme like Common Sense (But I did five Mil) I ain't been rhyming like Common since
@@jovna5315 When ya cents got that much in common and you been hustling since, your inception fuck perception goes with what makes sense.. and since I know what I’m against we as rappers must decide what’s more important. And I can’t help poor if I’m one of them so I got rich and gave back to me that’s a win/win... So next time you see the homie and his rims spin, just know my mind is working just like them... the rims that’s is.... 🔥🔥🔥 🤝
I love how he's being critical but showing love to hov's work at the same time.. this is not hating ladies and gentlemen... stating facts and showing love.. classic emcee 💯
Heres what Jayz really did: I said Talib Kweli for decades and I didn't know he existed. Until like this week and i heard Dave Chappell tell the story for like the 6th time. Jayz ate that man before he was born. Then we barely paid attention when we were told he sent his henchman to watch, Kanye, his very powerful henchman that we didn't know of at the time. Spells witches
If skills sold truth be told I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli Truthfully I want to rhyme like Common Sense (But I did five Mil) I ain't been rhyming like Common since Moment of Clarity Jay-Z
That Fundisha joint was one of my FAVORITE songs! Her vocals were dope but the lyrics in that song were DEEP! The hook was bananas the way she sang it. Too bad her career was so short lived. "Have you ever, ever, ever in your whole, whole life seen the things that I seen or lived the life? People don't know what I go through or imagine what it's like growing up in the hood. "Have you ever, ever, ever in your whole, whole life seen the things that I seen or lived the life? People don't know what I go through or imagine what it's like being mis-understood" -Fundisha
It’s crazy everyone got a different favorite. I know it’s not considered one of his best but VOL 3 life and times of S Carter, did it for me. And then 44:4s should have been longer IMO
@@sbrooks904 ...name another? I came up during that era...BIG was well received, same for Wu, Mobb, Snoop, Illmatic etc..... J first album is not top 10, def not top 5... sorry
@@supremewunder1906 illmatic did not sell well initially bro. Took years for it to go gold. Reasonable doubt was not seen as trash off the bat it just was overlooked Bc it was so much hot shit that came out in 96
Talib is soooo underrated & is definitely in the higher echelon of MC’s. I don’t rate rappers in any order especially cause there’s so many different styles to compare. It’s like comparing Lebron with Magic & Jordan. His game & the game of basketball has evolved so much the comparison is isn’t fair. Just like it’s not fair to compare Talib with ghostface & Raekwon or Jay-Z & Drake. They all are dope but the styles are sooooo different but all dope
Seriously thought about the Jay-Z lyric while listening to Kweli's "Get By" the other day. If he could step in to lyrically save Jay Elect's recent album, this surely would be the best time to get that Kweli/Jay-Z collab.
I kould be the next thang up if I get the right konnections I got so many styles I I kould start my own group lol but I'll let yall be the decision maker on it Listen to Gambling 2 by young d-block on #SoundCloud soundcloud.app.goo.gl/yxZXU
Disagree with Kweli about Dead Presidents, the song is actually an accompanying theme to CREAM, version 1 more than 2, if you pay attention to the bars
When you don't have those street experiences you can't appreciate certain music. I wish he could see Dead Presidents value in the culture. Where do y'all think the phrase "It was all good just a week ago" came from? The original Dead Presidents is a classic, not the rereleased version with new verses.
Well...he did say it's his least favorite track, but that doesn't mean he looks at without objective merit. Different temperaments have different tastes. The main takeaway one should gather from Kweli's speech, and his encounters with Jay-Z, is that the latter "set a standard"; understanding every nook and cranny of a man's experience isn't a requirement.

@@perreality I know I was one of the few in Chicago who knew about it and listened to that Joint, The majority was riding with 2pac and anti east coast at the time.
Diamond D should be at the start of the title with talib kweli, i wouldnt have even realised that was diamond D in the thumbnail with the mask n shades on, and the title was so long i didnt see diamond D name untill i clicked it
Nah... ya stock stayed low. After 2007. It was over. I like Talib.. truly do. But he was a angry rapper and that shit got tiring after awhile. Now look... confirming to the common outsider but I’m hip look and interviewing some mainstream dudes he was mad at 😂
