As an Afghan, I agree with you to some extent. The thing about the puppet government installed by the US is that it did not represent Afghan people. It was merely ran by a bunch of corrupt crooks who sucked up to the US government. By contrast, the Taliban are representative of some people in Afghanistan, even if it's just the rural agrarian populace or religious extremists. Many of them are just country bumpkins. Although they don't represent everything about Afghanistan, their homegrown quality gave them a strategic edge over the corrupt government and intervening foreign powers (much like the communist Vietnamese). The truth is, given the situation, there is no perfect solution.
