TALISMAN 5E Revealed at Modena Play - The Miniatures, Board, Art and MORE! 

Talisman Digital Edition is a supremely faithful version of Fantasy Flight Games' revised 4th edition. Nomad Games has also confirmed a digital version of the new fifth edition. The revised fourth edition, when compared to the third edition (or even the original fourth edition) sat down and unified the language and terminology, made many of the cards clearer and more concise, and kept the same conventions for it's many expansions. In my mind, the revised fourth edition was the definitive version of the original Talisman. That said, I'm getting pretty excited for the fifth edition. Thanks for the video!

The art really speaks to me here. From the card backs to the board, it's really really cool looking.

Avalon Hill is banking on Talisman because they learned that the real money is not in the base game but in the expansions. They learned that from HeroQuest. They could charge $150 for HeroQuest because of the nostalgia factor. Talisman is lesser-known, so they had to make it affordable to sell at a retail price of $60 to entice buyers. This is why they dropped two of the characters from the game, as well as the four plastic toads. This is the first edition with 12 characters instead of 14. Talisman has lots of expansions. The problem is that HeroQuest is an easy game to learn and play, whereas Talisman is known to be very challenging. They needed the game to be easier to make it more appealing to the ADHD crowd. They turned the Toad mechanic into a "miss your turn gimmick," so toading no longer poses a threat in the game. Getting points from combat is a lot easier. Before you had to get seven total points from your enemies to trade in for craft or strength points. Now, if the enemy's points are equal to or greater than your own, you get a point for defeating him. This is basically Talisman Jr. Stick with Talisman: Digital 4th edition. Avalon Hill dropped the ball on this one. Newbies and the ADHD crowd will love it, but veterans will probably hate it.

The Minotaur was not in the second edition, so the troll actually did not replace him in the 4th. Because 4th is 2ed but with fate and a very minor changed (I’m talking base game only)

I can't fit any more board games in my house. I still preordered the game anyway. I just need a bigger house.

I appreciate anyone enjoying Talisman, no matter what version it is. But IMO this new version has a very generic look to it, I dont know if its AI generated but it looks like it. Its not bad, but its just not good either. I prefer the way 4th looks in every way. Even the wonky minis! Talisman is such a silly setting it deserves a silly look to it :)

Yeah just preordered. Not only does this look great, and I imagine homebrew Hero cards will surface for HeroQuest, but damn if those minis won't be perfect for Rangers of Shadow Deep.

I was really hyped, until i saw that avalon is under WoTC and Hasbro...that makes me a bit worried

I have nostalgia goggles welded to my face that I can’t take off without causing permanent damage that would scare my children. In other words, no matter how good these new versions are, I just can’t get excited for them like I can for 2nd and 3rd edition. Same with the new version of HQ. My head is telling me these are great, but these goddamn goggles have other ideas 😂

Hello, do you believe they will reproduce space crusade and all the games abandoned after ffg and gw terminated their collaboration?

Never play it , have preordered this one. I believe they did say they streamlined some stuff but you wil have to ask a old time player for what

I have missed previous editions and have been waiting for the new one. Most likely I will buy it but to be honest I don't like graphics. The design is not consistent to me. It''s like let's make it a modern look with a flat design and simple font yet let's add some stylish so it's a fantasy theme and keep the immersion. And character sheets? These are most awful IMHO. For me it didn't work out :/ 4th edition wasn't great but I liked it much more when it comes to visuals.

I have all of the 4th edition at home, and we play it one, two times a year, but this gameplay is fallen out of time and the reason to play it is only because true nostalgy. So, I will keep my edition, but don't would buy any new stuff ... the time of Talisman ist over (for me). Much better games are on my table in 2024 ... I like Talisman, I also like HeroQuest, but playing these games is like playing in a timetravel back to the early 90s in slowmotion ...

When it comes to AI art, I'm pretty sure it's like most controversies in that the vast majority of people don't feel strongly one way or another, but the pro-AI side is going to get a lot of sympathy just from how tired everything gets from reading endless comments claiming something used AI art. Now for them to use AI to make the game's central art pieces would be insane, but I think the more likely truth is that since almost all fantasy art for the last ten years has been digital speed painting spam, these anti-AI art types can't differentiate between the lazy, low-detail style, and a computer trying its best to replicate that lazy, low-detail style, and so will just accuse everyone of using AI all the time.

Did they update the game itself to make it not terrible?
