Hey Big P, brother I really got a lot out of this video report. I live in Angeles City and I found a KYMCO dealer while looking for the TMAX for I had recently seen on during my vacation in Bangkok, Thailand. I was looking at the KYMCO 300, but during research I found your videos for the Philippines. I am blown away by your detailed review. I'm old school and I have always believed in "to each his own". I have look at the Specs for both the TMAX and AK550, but this report brought me into your logical and practical reason for this bike. I hope to roll with you one day soon. "Easy Rider" bro!
For the price of 6299 out the door and can go 90 mph and smooth as silk .......I got the Yamaha Xmax 300.......my friend has the AK550 and it's faster top end but has little storage. and doesn't have as good as a TFT screen as Yamaha and he had to pay 11,000 compared to me paying 6299 ........for the money Yamaha wins !!!!
Please look at the 2023 Yamaha Xmax 300 and look what you get for 6,000 ......75 mpg going 70 mph ....can easily go 87 mph ....way bigger storage under seat than AK550 ......for the price you can't beat Xmax 300 !!!!
I owned the Kymco Xciting before and now I have the Yamaha Tmax both wonderful bikes... I would have bought another Kymco (AK550) if they would have come to the US but Maxi Scooters just aren’t poplar enough here so I have to take my best option available and that’s a left over 2015 model. Can’t even get a 2016-2018 Tmax here
I just went from a Ducati to a TMax DX. If I wanted a good top speed I would've kept my Ducati. Why didn't I buy a Kymco? The overall finish of the TMax is better... Kymco looked and felt cheap. The performance is almost identical (don't tell me it's 0.5 secs faster... makes no difference to me). And for a 800 euro difference in price, choosing a Yamaha over a Kymco was a no-brainer.
Little John I saw it... before I bought the TMax. I liked the Adv but it costs almost 3000 euro more than the DX and I couldn’t justify the expense. Had there only been a few hundred euro I would have seriously considered it. But a few milliseconds advantage that the AK550 has over the DX didn’t convince me to go for a Kymco. I saw it, I rode it and I really wasn’t impressed. Performance-wise, I expected better results from a scooter that’s 20cc bigger and has lower gearing. And Kymco’s build-quality (imho) isn’t up to Yamaha’s standards. So I made my choice and I’m happy with it. But, apparently the AK is a couple of grand cheaper that the DX in some countries and I do understand that that changes the choice people have.
Grenherb Kymco only assembles BMW’s scooter engines and they are very quick to emphasize that their experts are there to assure that German quality control is strictly adhered to... the big boxer engines are still built in Germany. Kymco does not build Honda engines... it used to be a Honda assembly line many years ago before it went solo. As for Kawasaki, the Kawasaki 300 scooter is a rebadged Downtown. Again, Kawasaki’s bigger engines are built by Kawasaki. So let’s not give them too much credit, shall we?
yamaha tmax still a beautiful bike, no one can beat a maxi sporty scooter looks of tmax, kymco ak550 is an ugly bike I see it personally, honda silverwing and suzuki burgman is more beautiful than kymco ak550
