As someone who moved cross-country for med school in HTX, I am so beyond thankful to have been at Ben Taub. The clinical and public health experience is truly wild; I will miss this place like hell if/when I move on! So excited to see HHS represented here :)

Great episode!!!! I’m a retired RN and was especially interested in how Ben Taub hospital came into being. The majority of my career was spent working in our county hospital and getting indigent patients to specialized care was always a mountainous task.

My mom worked at Ben Taub AGES ago, before it moved. She was a new nurse when she started there. Worked in the jail ward many times. She told many wild tales over dinner.

Hello Dr. Glaucomflecken. I have an honest question. I am waiting on an urgent care where I am the only patient, why do they take forever when I am the only one in here? You should do a short bit on what they are doing. Lol

Houstonian here, we go to the med center about 2 times a month, I am planing on going to nursing school there, there are so many hospitals there in the med centers Texas Childrens hospital, Houston Methodist, Memorial Herman, Ben Taub, CHI st lukes, the VA hospital, MD anderson, texas womens hosptial, a couple of super private hospitals PLUS all the specialty MED buildings and each one of the Hosptials has multiple buildings, then the 3 med schools and 4 nursing schools that are there, and the DENTAL school as well, this area is HUGE.

I take it that Harris Healthcare Systems act very much like what was Community Hospitals dotted across the US. The downfall of all the med problems going on in my opinion right now - is that the corporations have taken them over and there is a loss of the community based systems. Glad to hear about the Houston system.

Yup, just took my mom yesterday to get her Botox shots for her headaches at the Neurologists! She’s tight on her schedule and only does Botox injections on the first Tuesday afternoons only of the month, and can only make appointments on Tuesdays at that clinic. She works at UT when she’s not at that Harris Health Clinic.

UT Houston also has residents and staff at Ben Taub. I think Dr. Nuila meant Baylor staffs the Internal Medicine portion of the hospital. Love y'all's work!
@czsember
@czsember Год назад
I think UT Houston primarily staffs LBJ hospital, although I have met a few who have rotated at Ben Taub as well! Baylor primarily staffs internal medicine and all specialty services.

Worked with Dr. Nulia as a medical student! I remember him being especially good with connecting with his patients. Also I vote that the podcast should be Houston only.

did you do Baylor? if you did, did you rotate through Toxicology with Dr.Greene?

@Fluteperson01 I think I've heard that name. You recommend that rotation?
@Fluteperson01
@Fluteperson01 Год назад
@@BKScience812 never done his rotation BUT I do know him personally, Dr. Greene is a Very published and friendly and knowledgeable Board cert Toxicologist and emergency med and and his underlings as well are great, He is the foremost snake bite expert in Texas let alone quite possibly the south. He puts on the Houston Snake Bite conference, been Friends on Facebook for about 6 years, and we met at a Emergency management of snake bite talk, he was at Baylor but i do think he is doing U of H med school this year, if his rotations are anything like his Talks then I 100% say do it, he is a very good teacher. also if you have any interest at all in toxicology and toxicology management in the ED and long term care then I think he is worth it

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I have discovered where Jonathan the scribe came from!!!!!! I was listening to my audio Bible and heard this verse: Jeremiah 37:15 Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. Jonathan the scribe is in the Bible! 😮

Can you make more pediatrician content? My mom is a pediatrician and loves your pediatrician content. However, she’s bad with technology so I have to send it to her. She keeps asking me if you’ve made any new pediatrician content to send her but I’ve already sent her everything

Remember, not providing minimum living standards for everyone, in the richest country in the world, is not due to lack of money. It's a policy choice. Something else: The USA pays twice as much per person for healthcare than is paid per person for healthcare in other countries. The healthcare outcomes we get are similar to much poorer countries in eastern Europe (Romania, Estonia) We're paying way more for less. We're getting ripped off.

Lots of people from CA an NY, who ruined their state, are coming to TX and not changing how they vote. So now TX is having issues. I agree healthcare insurance needs change/reform however don’t agree with government paid healthcare. I like your other podcasts that are informative instead of this one which is political.
@izziestevens5835

Harris Health and the green card have been here for a long time. What’s political about everyone having some form of health insurance? Everyone pays property, county, and federal taxes.
