@@jamalvines2133 I don’t believe Blacks aren’t “allowed” to establish distribution channels. I believe we don’t pursue distribution as a business the way we pursue acting and directing. Distribution of our own movies is a lucrative opportunity for us if we are wiling to learn what it involves. I would LOVE to invest in a Black distribution organization that is well thought out & connected. Let’s stop thinking about THEY & think more about US☺️

Hello, to the ReelBlack family. In poring over the comments posted by our viewers I have not seen any mention of the Cuffee character in THTF. Many of the viewers may have missed the part of the film where Cuffee, the character portrayed by Daniel Deadwyler, is revealed as Cathay Williams. Cathay Williams is a historical figure who enlisted in the US army posing as a man under the name of William Cathay. She was the only woman to have been a buffalo soldier. Her story is a fascinating one. The Mulan film comes to mind when I think about her story. Check it out. I also want to thank all the viewers who have tuned in and supported this content with their precious time. Peace and Blessings!

Yes, this film was fantasy and fiction but the question I have for you is why can't we have more black fantasy/films? How often lately do we see a black fantasy film. I'm happy and agree that these particular well known actors received work. You have to look at the bigger picture. From the outside looking in and vise sersa pertaining to black actors working. From the directors, producers, writers, actors and money put behind this film (THE MESSAGE). I've been in the presence of many black (movers/shakers) in the industry. That includes Regina King (twice as a teenager and adult). Blacks are always stereotyped and seen as a joke. Never taken seriously. Do you think thats a problem? Non-blacks put out plenty of crap on a regular basis. In the publics eye (white mivies/actors) are seen and portray heros, killers, saints, wealthy and every fantasy you can imagine. People of all nationalities pay money and watch these films (including the crappie white films). I almost forgot the distribution of these crappie films around the world. Some of our black films don't get that far unless the actors are extremely famous.. Do you realize how hard it is for a black actor to get an Emmy,, Grammy award? So getting a Nickelodeon/MTV award is the best we can get!? My point is that we are our worst critics. Meaning we look for things to be wrong with our own. From creativity, ideas, imagination and much more. We are definitely our worst enemies. Yet we aren't producing black films in mass. Why? Maybe because some of us don't think it's possible. Is it money!? I doubt it. Haven't we seen anough slave/gangsta movies? The bottom it's FEAR. I bet money if this movie was non fiction there would still be major critiques. No, this wasn't the perfect BLACK WESTERN FILM but for those who put in the REAL work to get it to the audience (blacks, whites, and others) it was a good job. That's my opinion. I've come to the conclusion that the most criticism comes from the ones that aren't doing anything to make a difference. So can you elaborate and or explain your likes/dislikes with this film and what you would've done differently? At the end of the day everyone's a critic.

Mr Woods perspective is always spot on! I was uncomfortable with the amount of Black carnage in the movie. Even for a western, I expect violence but not just for the sake of shock value. It's something about those foreign films and directors. They use Black trauma and torture as a theme rather than telling a complete humanizing story. "Twelve Years A Slave" is a prime example.

Two Distant Strangers (an Oscar winner in 2020 for short film is on Netflix), Janelle Monae's 2020 film Antebellum and Amazon Prime's series THEM are all trauma porn to Black people. The Harder They Fall is indeed violent. It was ADVERTISED that way. However, it ain't nowhere near the mind-rape that exists in the above mentioned films & series.

@@jesushateswood Absolutely agree!! I absolutely HATED 'Them' for that very reason. So much trauma and no resolution. Two Distant Strangers was deep. I didn't understand the trauma response there until I watched it with my BF (a black man) who for 10-20 minutes was visibly uncomfortable with the notion that there is NOTHING that you can do to avoid that end result. You make a great point here! TY

I enjoyed the sharing of ideas, concepts and tropes around every example spoken about. Now I have some additional tools to help me describe what I am seeing throughout 'black entertainment' with an attempt to better identify, understand what isn't serving the betterment of black people and ultimately do what I came into the room to do, like was stated in the intro of Let's Start by Fela Kuti played during Regina King's fight scene towards the close of movie. Respect, for mentioning your aim to Show & Tell what's going on verses Spin & Selling more falsehood.

Django, the protagonist, did not kill Candie. Django had to have an enabler, Schultz, who killed the plantation owner. In fact, the Django character would not have killed anyone except for this co-star freeing him and being the authority behind Django's actions. Very thankful for this analysis. It represents "the proper way" to watch a Black-facing film in White supremacy culture, i.e., made with White capital (as is nearly all film, White director notwithstanding).

Also notice in the train scene, they let the white boy go because he was presumably innocent of robbing the town, but said it was because he could pilot a train. Which they only needed because they killed the foreman for spitting a slur. They went to great lengths with that one.

In Brief, THIS story was stripped right from Black Panther. You gentlemen mentioned a few parallels. I submit that the writer was given the Black Panther format, of which to write upon. With a western tang. I'm working on a review currently. THIS is the essence of the anti-Black Tricknology for me in "The Harder They Fall". Great work again gentlemen. Peace

Will Black folk ever enjoy anything created by other Black ppl? Will Black folk ever stop offering critiques without solutions? Will Black folk ever put their money into telling stories the way they want instead of complaining about other's artistic concepts? Find out next time on Negro-FBA-Israelite-Native American-Moor Ball Z ...All jokes aside, can we normalize asking the good Sir what he would've liked to see or done differently after he complains about a movie/scene. Because from my observation it just sounds like nitpicking and hypotheticals are given simply for the sake of arguing. I'd like to hear solution-based answers to your questions. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Dick Gregory addressed the Black hero when he spoke about the 1969/70 TV show “The Outcasts”, with Otis Young. The Black hero killed a white villain when the villain was so low down and dirty that everyone hated him. The Lieutenant General along with his troops in the movie were evil and would be despised by decent people.
