I appreciate Paul Williams' insightful remarks about a durable peace. You cannot make an agreement with Vladimir Putin and have any reasonable expectation that he will abide by it.
Just like NATO kept up the agreement not one inch to the east, ignore warnings that the Russians would invade if they meddled with Ukraine, insisted that Ukraine give up trade arrangements which they had for more than 50 years with Russia in favour of exclusive arrangements with EU which would allow EU goods to filter into Russia without tariffs while they have tariffs on Russia. As someone here says, do your own reading before accepting what one party to a quarrel says is fact.
