Song Lyrics:
[Intro]
Well, we know where we're goin'
But we don't know where we've been
And we know what we're knowin'
But we can't say what we've seen
And we're not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out
[Verse 1]
We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride
I'm feelin' okay this mornin'
And you know
We're on a road to paradise
Here we go, here we go
[Verse 2]
We're on a ride to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there, take you there
[Chorus]
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
[Bridge]
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's all right, baby it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby it's all right
Would you like to come along?
And you could help me sing this song
And it's all right, baby it's all right
They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby it's all right
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's all right, baby it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby it's all right
Would you like to come along?
You could help me sing this song
And it's all right, baby it's all right
They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby it's all right
[Chorus]
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere

St. Augustine on time, “This time is longer than that,” or, more precisely, “This is twice as long as that.” I know that I am measuring time. But I am not measuring the future, for it is not yet; and I am not measuring the present because it is extended by no length; and I am not measuring the past because it no longer is. What is it, therefore, that I am measuring? Is it time in its passage, but not time past?”

WHAT A FKN' FANTASTIC TIME THAT WAS !!! All of us were doing that. It was our hobby back then...at least mine. Was sooo much fun! Glad for owning a HI-FI system in my teenage years back then....which i still have, also all those tapes. Here in Germany we had music chartshows, where the songs were fully played, even many extended ones. But always used the fade function anyway.

Sony got filthy rich enabling music piracy. Those Walkmans and recorders and blank tapes galore, and tape-to-tape duplicating machines so you could pass tapes to all your friends. Everybody was doing it. With those profits they bought the privilege to sue pirates in court for putting Beatles on a mix tape. Wagging their fingers because copying music is a crime. What a low down trick.

Give a break. They are a BRILLIANT band. David Byrne is a literally genius who has gifted the world with his own quirky and unusual sense of humor, intelligence, wit, political awareness, concern about the World In General. They are really amazing and David himself is my favorite of course...but I never have had an opportunity to see The Heads or even David Byrne's solo concert live. I would love to see either, but just being with the kind of crowd that would come...in legion...to see The Talking Heads play just one reunion world tour for all the fans, would be a life-altering experience. SO many great bands I love and have never seen live: The Cure, Depeche Mode (MAYBE saw them one time, I have a faint memory), New Order, The Smiths, REM, The B-52's, Sting & Or The Police, The Rolling Stones, (can't afford the damn $500 tickets!), Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, Jimi, Janis, Nirvana, only got to see U2 ONCE in concert and the audio was fucked up so Bono sounded like he was sucking helium all night. The Talking Heads...like The Violent Femmes, Sublime, (saw Garbage play with No Doubt once...GREAT show! There would be a million YOUNG people. That's how great this band is. Even teenagers would be there. This music is timeless.

A few years ago I suffered from a very traumatic experience, recently a few days ago, I've been finding myself reliving the traumatic experience over and over again, and I decided to put on this song and it made me feel as though everything is going to be alright, and has helped me to move past this trauma, and so I've been listening to this song nonstop and I'm feeling happier. Thank you David Byrne and the rest of the Talking Heads, I don't know what you did with this song, but it's really helped me out.

Beautiful songs do soothe the soul, and can remind us tomorrow morning might not even come, it wasn’t promised. Yet with good music, we can see beyond, on this road to nowhere we all share. Stay strong, sending you prayers, positive vibes, and hope that it really will be alright, for you very soon, for all of us. When feeling low, remember ultimately, it’s about that climb~put on a playlist, and dance while sing your heart out💃Good luck to you.

I was just learning to live. 26 years old and working with the best friends I've ever had, also my bosses. Had a fungi connect in California and the whole next year was a celebration of me being re born. That was 40 fkn years ago.... Amira F I love this Talking Heads’ video. But, let me tell you about the song and this video. "Road to Nowhere" is a rock song written by David Byrne for Talking Heads’ 6th studio album "Little Creatures" (1985). It also appeared on "The Best of Talking Heads" (2004), "Sand in the Vaseline: Popular Favorites" (1992), the "Once in a Lifetime" (2003) box set and the Brick box set. The song was released as the 2nd single in September 1985 and reached number 25 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 6 in the British, German and South African singles charts. It also made No. 8 on the Dutch Top 40. «I wanted to write a song that presented a resigned, even joyful look at doom,» recalls David Byrne in the liner notes of "Once in a Lifetime: The Best of Talking Heads" (1992). «At our deaths and at the apocalypse... (always looming, folks). I think it succeeded. The front bit, the white gospel choir, is kind of tacked on, 'cause I don’t think the rest of the song was enough... I mean, it was only two chords. So, out of embarrassment, or shame, I wrote an intro section that had a couple more in it.» The video for the song was directed by David Byrne and Stephen R. Johnson and featured the band and various objects revolving, as if in their own "road to nowhere". It was nominated for "Best Video of the Year" at the MTV Video Music Awards 1986 (lost to Dire Straits for "Money for Nothing"), Best Concept Video (lost to a-ha for "Take On Me"), and Viewer’s Choice (lost to a-ha for "Take On Me"). Some parts were shot in the back yard and pool of actor Stephen Tobolowsky, who was co-writing David Byrne’s film "True Stories" (1986) at the time. Director Stephen R. Johnson reused some of the effects techniques in award-winning videos for Peter Gabriel the following year: "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time". David Byrne - guitar, vocals Chris Frantz - drums Jerry Harrison - keyboards, guitar, backing vocals Tina Weymouth - bass guitar, backing vocals Additional musicians: Andrew Cader - washboard Erin Dickens - backing vocals Diva Gray - backing vocals Gordon Grody - backing vocals Lani Groves - backing vocals Jimmy Macdonell - accordion Lenny Pickett - saxophones Steve Scales - percussion Kurt Yahijian - backing vocals The genres are pop rock and new wave.
