Talks on Sri Ramana Maharshi: Narrated by David Godman - Pavalakundru Temple

This is the story of Ramana Maharshi's brief stay at Pavalakundru, a temple that is perched on top of a rocky outcrop in Tiuruvannamalai. It was here that Sri Ramana's mother met him when she came looking for him in 1898. This is shorter than many of the other films since Sri Ramana's stay here was somewhat brief and not many incidents have been recorded about his time in this temple.

Namaskaram Sir You have mentioned at 2:34 that "one tiny tiny room that Bhagavan occupied seems to have disappeared" Is not the "tiny tiny room" inside the Mother Muktambika shrine, with very very small opening into which one has to bend and enter and where Bhagavan's photo is placed, the one that Bhagavan occupied? 🙏🙏🙏

Mr. Godman, I hope that sometime you will tell us about the other two lies that Bhagavan told.
@David_Godman
@David_Godman 9 лет назад
tod kington He mentioned them when he told this story. The first was when he asked for five rupees to pay for college fees when he left home in 1896, and the second was a story he made up when he pawned his earrings on the way to Tiruvannamalai.

David - Are you sure that it was Ramana's mother that was associated with the incident of locking him in the room? From what I have read, I think his mother joined him only when he started living in Skandasramam. Did she not go back after Ramana refused to return? Where was she living in town during this period?. Was it chronicled in any book of yours or others?
@David_Godman
@David_Godman 9 лет назад
MyParasar Well spotted! A very similar story appears in an account by S. S. Cohen who located the incident at Skandashram. When Annamalai Swami told me this story, I mentioned that I thought this incident had happened at Skandashram. He replied by telling me that he clearly remembered Bhagavan telling him that this had happened at Pavalakundru. I can't answer your other questions. There are no more details available.

These are wonderful, and have me enjoying being immersed in the bav of Ramana (Sri Paramahansa Yogananda is my Master. I love the photo of the two of them). WHAT is the sporadic disjointed music, under David's narration tracks. It's very distracting. I don't suppose you could clean these up?

Are thoughts also predestined , when you say body do you also mean the mind ?
@TheKstuart
@TheKstuart 6 лет назад
(In my opinion), yes thoughts are also predestined The "mind" is part of the body - if you get hit on the head, your thought immediately stops. If a brain surgeon makes a mistake, the person can lose memories, which indicates that these are dependent on the body. Note that Awareness is not dependent on the body (the main teaching of Ramana). You can think of it like a Sci-Fi Movie (like The Matrix or Total Recall), where someone connects to a machine and then experiences another life in a different world. In this case, we - Awareness - are watching a 70 year long (roughly) movie about the life of a particular human being. "Realization" is realizing that you are watching the movie, instead of identifying with the main character.

Mr.Godman, I very much long to listen to you talk about F.H.Humphreys who visited Bhagavan in 1911 and to whom,it appears, Bhagavan told that he was talking to him as a Guru talks to a disciple.
@David_Godman
@David_Godman 9 лет назад
+Singaperumal Narayana The only information known about Humphreys comes from the account he published. The relevant portion about his visit to Bhagavan appears in a small Ramanasramam booklet. I can't add anything to it
@singaperumalnarayana3397
@singaperumalnarayana3397 9 лет назад
+David Godman What you have said must,of course, be correct. I have always wondered how destiny charted out events in the life of young Humphreys, leading to his meeting with Bhagavan. I only wish that his name would find a mention ,somewhere, in the wonderful video series you are making about Bhagavan.

I may just be watching too much on Sri Ramana - last night I dreamt I was being sent to an establishment founded by him for 'Pre-Thinkers'.

(a) If one can choose to search within for one’s source, and if this were to lead to self-realisation, it is difficult to see how the subsequent course of one’s life would then follow exactly the same outward form as if one hadn’t chosen to search within. (b) If everything is regarded as predestined, the ‘pre’ part of the concept should not, in my view, be regarded as referring to an earlier point in time (i.e. before one’s birth). Any divine being capable of doing the determining would almost certainly need to exist outside of time. (c) 'There is neither creation nor destruction, neither destiny nor freewill, neither path nor achievement; this is the final truth.’ (Ramana Maharishi)
@TheKstuart
@TheKstuart 6 лет назад
a) The whole course of one's life leads to searching within. There is no choice, because there is no chooser. b) Correct - it is only stated otherwise as a concession to the human viewpoint c) Ramana stated that both perspectives were true. That is explained in more details in David Godman's book "Be As You Are".

I'm sorry. Though this may be of little comfort, there is a vastness greater than us at work. It is love itself, and it will take care of you, your mother and everyone else, in the way that is best, and that we often don't see. Your mother is here in your Heart of Hearts. Look within, she is closer than close. Become one with her and all that is.

so in the case of a suicide. ishwara caused that action and the person had no choice. this is to teach the soul about suicide???
@didierfeelgood3374
@didierfeelgood3374 3 года назад
Ishawara gives the best opportunities to realize our true nature. Depression and suffering is an excellent one. If we miss this excellent occasion and commit suicide, then very heavy kama for the next life. If we realize our true nature, suicide will not occur...as there is no more karma. Seems to make sense to me.
